Is there any way to ensure she can’t access my medical records? She’s very mouthy. We get on okay but I don’t want her knowing anything about my health. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable. My husband does and thinks she won’t get a chance to be nosey.

Hello.
I work as a GP receptionist and you have full access to patients records but you cannot “snoop” you will need a valid reason to go into the records like booking in patient etc.
You can request to talk to another receptionist if you like when calling.
A few times I have answered the phone to a neighbour and I have asked them if they would
Like to speak to another receptionist.

I wouldn’t like that at all. I would move to a different surgery and make my reasons known.

I work closely alongside job centres and hear of advisors looking up something very inconsequential to check and have been sacked for doing so. Any unauthorised accessing of accounts flags up and it’s a serious business. You can tell by details you give and get back from reception when booking appointments that they have controlled access even to you as The patient they are dealing with at that moment.

What’s the point of making your reasons known though? The reason is basically that the OP doesn’t like another school mum. No-one is going to take that into account in their recruitment process.

All the receptionists can look at all the patient records. And we are always clicking in and out of them - every time you answer the phone, every time you look at a task. All the reception staff are local and everyone knows a fair few patients. It's the nature of the job.
