To think Oliver Banfield is a danger to women and girls?

I’ve just read this on BBC NEWS:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-56459217

Women appear to be fair game for anyone to attack without punishment...

This probationary POLICE OFFICER grabbed the victim by the neck and forced her to the ground, all whilst calling her a fucking slag.

Plus it’s dark, he’s pretty tall. It’s on CCTV.

How will women ever feel safe when men - and specifically those tasked with keeping us safe - get away with inflicting abuse, fear and pain on us?

There are some days when I just despair.

Last week we saw spreadsheets of mainly male police officers and their crimes against women. I was totally shocked.

Who are these judges that believe that this kind of misogyny is remotely acceptable? Why aren’t they being screened for misogynistic views before they achieve Judge status?? Something is very very wrong.

psychlogical screening is an option I guess, are there some out there that are suitably recommended / tested?*

There are a number of personality / attitudes type screening psychometrics, yes. All of which are remarkably easy to lie in response to. It would take a very trained eye and further analysis to spot this. Very resource intensive, too. These tests aren't cheap to buy (the materials themselves), then it's psychologist's time to administer and analyse outcome, and write report etc. Unless you did a slap dash job of course, or used an unqualified person to administer it, which would limit the validity of the test.

LucieStar · 21/03/2021 16:57

I wonder why the (admittedly not perfect) screening process used by the forces can’t be applied to officers as part of their training process .

I would imagine that the MoD has a much larger budget to pay for more extensive training.

What specifically do you feel the military do better in terms of their screening process that could be applied to police recruitment?

LexMitior · 21/03/2021 19:19

It’s easy. The police are not the people. They are a self selecting group who are given power over the public.

2 year probation, psychological evaluation, and a much longer training period. Check social media, and also your associates, financial records.

Civil servants have more stringent checks than the police. This is ridiculous. They too have power and codes of conduct, and yet the CS has higher standards. Absurd.

Being in the police carries with it a lot of power and responsibility. The police federation are in the business of often asking for greater privileges over the law that applies to the public. I would have them excluded from lobbying politicians. It has enabled a lowering of standards and perverse entitlement.

Finally, elevate discipline standards. The police are there to serve, they are not there to control as some seem to think.

Somewhat outing but I'm from the same village as Emma. This was written by her Aunt regarding his suspension from WMP & shared on our village Facebook page today (& others), I have her permission to share it here.

Gosh @BernardsarenotalwaysSaints . That is horrific. I sincerely hope those on the thread that complained of misinformation about police in the press this week see that the police are actually spreading misinformation.

tilder · 21/03/2021 20:22

@PapaSierra

I hope you started a thread in a similar vein against nurses when Beverly Allitt killed 4 babies in her care and attempted to kill 3 more.

And about doctors when Harold Shipman killed approximately 250 of his vulnerable, elderly patients.

And about pilots when Andreas Lubitz killed 150 passengers on board when he committed suicide.

And one about plastic surgeons when Jonathan Brooks attempted to murder his colleague.
And dentists after Colin Howell, a convicted double murderer.

And postal workers after Robert Yale Shulman murdered five prostitutes.

And taxi drivers after John Warboys after being convicted of 12 rapes, possibly 100 more.

And firefighters when John Leonard Orr murdered four people.

And teachers when Christopher Darler raped a student, had indecent images of children on his phone and blamed his 'Heavy workload'

WRT Shipman, big changes were put in place to stop such action being possible in the future.

There was universal shock and outrage. Review of process. Lots of changes. People stood up, said it was wrong and horrific. Worked to stop it happening again.

Totally different to the cases reported here about the police.

Rape prosecutions tell me everything I need to know about misogyny in the police and the CPS.

Plain clothes officers have been doing this for a long time. Also, have you heard women can be police officers now?? And can....VOTE??[/quote]
Am not entirely sure I understand.

Are you suggesting cases such as the one highlighted by the op are the fault of women?

SimonJT · 21/03/2021 20:46

@tilder I read it that way as well.

Andrelaxagain · 22/03/2021 10:08

@LexMitior - yes police must be held to higher account. I think your suggestions sound reasonable. Although all these measures rely on the police policing themselves don’t they? Presumably their standards aren’t as high as they need to be or more of these bad apples would have been caught and punished sooner and the culture wouldn’t be so toxic (in places)?

If the police don’t act to prevent police abusing raping and killing women - the trust won’t return. I never thought I’d have to tell my daughter that she only can sort of trust the Police if she’s in trouble. I’ve always trusted the Police ever since I was little and the police would come to school. Feel that was a bit naive now. The press release above just confirms that.

tilder · 22/03/2021 10:23

Nice to know victim blaming and misogyny are alive and well.

Not really surprising that there are objections to misogyny being made a hate crime at every turn. Hating women is the only socially acceptable hate crime.

SimonJT · 22/03/2021 12:21

@tilder I’m pleased I’m not the only one who was confused/shocked, I had to read a few times as it wasn’t something I was expecting.
