I’ve not picked up my prescription that was sent there two weeks ago. They have called me today I definitely didn’t give them my number.

Its probably linked to your GP details on the computer if you signed up to paperless prescriptions

JingsMahBucket · 19/03/2021 23:24

This is normal for a pharmacy to have your number. They need to phone you in case anything goes wrong. YABU.

Fedup333336 · 19/03/2021 23:25

Where did they get it from though is what I don’t understand? I would have given it to them if they asked me.

GreyhoundG1rl · 19/03/2021 23:27

It's probably on your prescription.

Niconacotaco · 19/03/2021 23:28

I'm in Scotland. We can access parts of your medical records online which includes contact details. Before this system, we would phone the GP and ask for your number if needed.

Fedup333336 · 19/03/2021 23:29

I’ve not seen it on my proscription before

ChequerBoard · 19/03/2021 23:29

Not odd at all, it will be part of your demographic details that they receive with your electronic prescription.

mineofuselessinformation · 19/03/2021 23:32

So they called you because if you don't collect it, they will return it to stock....
I'm struggling to see why you are bothered, TBH.
They did you a favour.
And yes, they probably have your phone number through your records, which will be appropriately protected by GDPR.
YABU.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 19/03/2021 23:32

If they are providing NHS services then they are probably able to access shared data for health care purposes. It will be on your GP records and if it's sent electronically your contact details go with it.

muddledmidget · 19/03/2021 23:32

Pharmacy computer systems access a system called the NHS spine to download the electronic prescriptions sent to them by GP surgeries. Contained within the spine is a registry of patient names, addresses, contact telephone numbers and GP details. When we download your prescription, this info comes with the prescription from your surgery, and we can use it to contact you regarding your prescription if we need to. We can only use the info for specified purposes, and much like at GPs surgeries, all our activity is tracked using our computer login to make sure it is being used appropriately

Mrsmorton · 19/03/2021 23:34

I'm confused as to why you have a prescription you can wait 2 weeks for. That's more of an issue that the NHS sharing relevant information.

Fedup333336 · 19/03/2021 23:35

Because I was in hospital for a week which meant I didn’t use the medication I had at home.

GrandTheftWalrus · 19/03/2021 23:36

I didn't give my pharmacy my number but they text to let me know I could collect it.

Great idea, saves me always having to go and check if it's ready.

Lemoncurd · 19/03/2021 23:44

My number is always on the slip of paper from the doctors surgery (tear off part from the prescription) that is stapled to the bags the items are in when I collect them from the pharmacy.

ViciousJackdaw · 19/03/2021 23:52

There's one big system with all our info and that hospitals, clinics, GPs, pharmacists and other HCPs have access to. I had a blood test at the GP and went to A&E three days later for something unrelated and they were able to tell me the test results there. Great idea, very sensible.

FWIW, I sometimes end up with a couple of weeks backlog too. I feel certain we aren't all stockpiling pills, we just put our next request in a couple of weeks later.

icegarden · 19/03/2021 23:57

Do you have an issue with it? Our GP and surgery are linked

Fedup333336 · 20/03/2021 00:04

Well I would prefer people don’t past contact details without my consent yes.

Ilovenutellaaaaa · 20/03/2021 00:50

Like others have said, they probably got it from your doctors surgery...I never gave the chemist I use my phone number but they have rang a few times about things related to my prescription (an item may be a few days late, or prescription is ready etc)...I've never found it odd to be honest or gave it any thought about them having my phone number,

KrisAkabusi · 20/03/2021 00:51

Nobody passed your details. It's s centralised NHS system that they are part of. Your consent isn't required as you provided the details to the NHS in the first place.

ineedaholidaynow · 20/03/2021 00:57

Would you rather they didn’t give you the medication?

Ginuwine · 20/03/2021 01:09

Can someone explain to me why there is this growing trend on here for people to question whether anyone in an official or commercial capacity can have their contact details, and use them in said official capacity?

It's like the job one from a few days ago. It just smacks to me of people saying "oh but my privacy!! I want to ensure my privacy at any and all times because it's my right".

Ok, but you might want the pharmacy one day to proactively call you about something especially if linked to a doctor's surgery who send prescriptions through automatically. Pharmacies are technically perfectly safe businesses who have to abide by data rules.

There is a preciousness of thought here sometimes from certain posters who want to look for issues wherever they can find them.

CaptainCabinets · 20/03/2021 01:22

What a non issue 😂😂😂😂😂

velvethaze · 20/03/2021 01:23

Ffs.

steff13 · 20/03/2021 01:25

You probably did consent when you signed up for your doctor or whatever, you organic just don't realize it.

steff13 · 20/03/2021 01:26

Probably not organic. 😒
