Tortilla wraps

We buy wraps instead of bread for school lunches,

How did I not know that once opened you are supposed to refrigerate and eat within 24 hours?!

Did anyone else know that?!

Ours live in the bread bin for about a week or till they go mouldy. We are all in good health!

ShirleyPhallus · 18/03/2021 19:23

There’s a lot of rubbish written on best before dates, just go with whether they’re still soft and not mouldy

Eggs last weeks after their BB. As does cheese. Yogurt lasts a good week and milk a few days. Loads of fruit and veggies last for weeks and months if stored properly

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 18/03/2021 19:24

Ours is always kept in the bread bin until they go stale when one of the Dc leaves it open 🤨

They do freeze really well, can just microwave defrost what you need

Easterbunnygettingready · 18/03/2021 19:25

Wouldn't know. Once opened the packet is empty here...
4 teens...

Birdslovesinging · 18/03/2021 19:26

I did not know this. I have always kept it in the cupboard in a tight air bag.

PlanetPuddle · 18/03/2021 19:26

They go a bit funny round the edges if not eaten quickly

JaninaDuszejko · 18/03/2021 19:28

Why would you put bread in a fridge? How strange. It's a BB date, ignore it.

Wandamakestoast · 18/03/2021 19:29

I keep mine in the fridge, because I think they keep better. But we definitely don’t use them within 24 hours! That’s ridiculous.

PivotPivotPivottt · 18/03/2021 19:29

I knew this but I've just ate one today thats been open since TuesdayBlush.I had them well covered as they go hard round the edges if they aren't covered.

Swordfish1 · 18/03/2021 19:30

Back in the cupboard here. And definitely not eaten within 24 hours.

Timeforabiscuit · 18/03/2021 19:30

Well that explains alot! Grin

GooGoo52 · 18/03/2021 19:30

I also discovered that this week 🤣 I've always just kept them in a cupboard with the bread and we've never had a problem.

Whatalottachocca · 18/03/2021 19:31

As @Swordfish1 said and we’ve been doing this for years.

Naticus · 18/03/2021 19:44

I've had some open in a tupperware for about 3 weeks 😳 well Aldi said they were Italian flat breads or something, but looked like tortilla to me.
1 was going mouldy so got binned, ate 1 and the last has gone in the freezer.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/03/2021 19:48

We've had ours for weeks. As long as they're not mouldy and don't smell funny they're fair game. They don't go in the fridge either as I don't think they'd be as nice if they were cold.

daisyflower9 · 18/03/2021 19:49

I put them in the fridge after I open and then bin when they go a bit hard around the edgesSmile Didn’t know that!

yomellamoHelly · 18/03/2021 19:50

With the stale ones you can cut them into triangles coat them with olive oil and pop them in the oven for 15-20 to make tortilla chips. (Our lockdown discovery.)

RaininSummer · 18/03/2021 19:52

Hmm. I eat mine over a couple of weeks usually. No fridge involved.

Tinydinosaur · 18/03/2021 19:53

I just reseal them and keep them until they go bad. They last ages

Ameliablue · 18/03/2021 19:58

We've never put in fridge. Just reseal and discard when they feel stale.

PinkSkiesAtNight · 18/03/2021 20:01

I keep ours in the freezer, they defrost in about a minute. Otherwise they go hard round the edges.

ragged · 18/03/2021 20:02

yabu to say "tortilla wraps"

They are tortillas or wraps if you prefer but saying "tortilla wraps" is like saying "bread bread". You don't need both words.

Mine go in fridge before opening because I eat them slowly.

kowari · 18/03/2021 20:03

I keep ours in the fridge and a pack usually lasts DS four days or longer. They are resealed straight away and we have never had an issue.

Inaseagull · 18/03/2021 20:11

I open the pack and separate them (leaving them in the pack) and then freeze. Then a few seconds in the microwave when needed.
