Tortilla wraps

We buy wraps instead of bread for school lunches,

How did I not know that once opened you are supposed to refrigerate and eat within 24 hours?!

Did anyone else know that?!

We treat them a bit like the our cat we tell him "Do NOT shit in other peoples gardens or else!"

For Tortilla Wraps we tell them something along the lines of " Do NOT go stale or mouldy or else!".

I have to say neither seems to work...

Ours live in the microwave, with the rest of the bread.

If they start to dry out they get used to make quesadillas or burritos any left after that get cut into wedges and frozen ready for nachos.

I would guess I eat less than half as a wrap.

But in the fridge, 24 hours? Madness!

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/03/2021 20:50

It actually concerns me slightly that they last so long. What the hell is in them?! Grin

Potpourriandpennysweets · 18/03/2021 20:55

I put them in the freezer, I defrost by leaving out for about an hour (1 wrap on 1 plate at room temperature) do the same with dinner rolls etc although they can take longer to defrost

You store bread in the microwave? Why?
CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/03/2021 21:16

Because it's the modern bread in. Didn't you know?

It's one of those things, those who use it for bread will thing it normal, those who don't, won't.

Just as I think keeping bread in the fridge is really weird and makes it go mouldy quicker.

SunshineLifeIsBest · 18/03/2021 21:19

Put them in a big freezer lock bag from ikea. Keep for ages!

chipsandpeas · 18/03/2021 21:23

mine keep for ages, i buy the big resealable bags from ikea and use them rather than the bag it comes in as i find they dont reseal very well

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/03/2021 21:28

rubbish advice on the pack - they just want you to chuck them and buy more.
Definitely OK for 5 days-ish, depending on how cool/warm it is.
Even if they go a bit hard (but not mouldy) good for a pizza base.

nokidshere · 18/03/2021 21:28

Generally they are gone in one sitting here but if there are any left (that always dry out because none knows how to seal a bag) just put them in the microwave for 30 seconds and they will return to being soft, or fold them into a taco shape and bake in the oven where they will go crispy.

SusannaMorvern · 18/03/2021 21:33

I buy them because they last longer than the normal bread. 5 days+ in the bread bin, until they get furry patches. I keep them in a plastic bag with a clip, or else they dry up at the edges.
Even if they go stale, I put them in the oven until they crisp up and then dip them in hummus.

AlCalavicci · 18/03/2021 21:37

I have a open packet in the fridge ( no bread bin here ) it's been there at least 8 days , I may eat them over the weekend .

If they do go a bit hard they can be cut into triangles or strips and deep fried extremely unhealthy but very tasty

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2021 21:39

I’ve never them in the fridge. They last at least a week here.

TinySongstress · 18/03/2021 21:41

I'm still aghast that people keep bread in their microwave 😳

TeaAndBrie · 18/03/2021 21:54

We have these all the time and they stay in the cupboard and can be there opened for a couple of weeks before being finished. Quick mould check and then used if okay!

PhoenixIsFlying · 18/03/2021 22:03

No matter how many times I try, I can never get the wraps to stay wrapped.

Blueberries0112 · 18/03/2021 22:07

I freeze mine. I can never eat it fast enough. Because of this, every once a blue moon I will make it out of scratch

LaChatte · 18/03/2021 22:10

Microwave is great for bread and cake storage because it's pretty airtight (ish).

PopAyetheSailorMam · 18/03/2021 22:27

We try not to mess around with single use plastics to store things, so we put an upturned dinner plate over the re-sealed bag to preserve the edges. We don't refrigerate or consume in 24 hours. Our kitchen is colder than the average kitchen.

ragged · 19/03/2021 07:17

Our microwave is in constant use.
