I would need a size 13 - why are there no uneven sizes?

same in european sizes. would be size 41 there...
why?

emilyfrost · 18/03/2021 09:39

Why? Because they can’t make every single size, that would be insane Confused

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 18/03/2021 09:39

Size 41 seems to be the only size that doesn't fit a UK equivalent. It's not quite a 7, not quite an 8. All the other shoe sizes match up with their EU counterparts nicely.

redcandlelight · 18/03/2021 09:40

I'm talking clothes not shoes.

Next do in between size jeans l think

Poppins2016 · 18/03/2021 09:41

I've often wondered. I'm in between a size 8 and 10, therefore a "size 9" which doesn't exist!

I think it's a cost thing. It would be too expensive for retailers to provide every size possible. I suppose the holy grail would be to get my clothes made... but that would be far too expensive!

bingoitsadingo · 18/03/2021 09:44

There are a few shops that do. I want to say Hollister does? Or A&F? One of those American ones anyway.

Generally I find there is enough variation in sizes between shops that there's not too much of an issue though - surely you aren't perfectly between sizes in every single shop? They vary so much!

CandleWick4 · 18/03/2021 09:47

Same here OP! 12 is too snug and 14s too big/wide on my legs etc, often thought to myself ooh I’d love a size 13!

CCSS15 · 18/03/2021 09:49

Next!!!! I just found their jeans last month and they do inbetween sizes - also, as most people don't know there's loads left in the sale

Amdone123 · 18/03/2021 09:49

Same here! 16 can be too tight, and 18s fall off me.
A 17, please !

BarbaraofSeville · 18/03/2021 09:50

There seems to be such a huge gulf between sizes too, far more than the 2 inch diameter indicates.

I'm the same OP. Size 12 is just too tight to be comfortable, or look right, but size 14 looks like the 'after' photograph on a weight loss advert, with enough room in there for another person. How??

Ask around with your friendly local seamstresses. It may not be as much as you think. And you may find you need fewer clothes, and/or the price is worth it, if the ones you have are made to measure for you and made well, rather than mass produced.

I have a few things made to measure. They weren't as expensive as I thought, and absolutely worth it because I couldn't get this fit in these clothes off the peg.

Here's my next dragons den idea! Jeans/ trousers with adjustable waistband like some manufacturers of Childrens clothing!

but that wouldn't help with extra fabric around my bottom...

Seeing as though no two high street shops have the same size despite being called a size 10 for example, I think you just need to look round and see who does a small size 14 or a large size 12, for a 13.

It would be far easier if you could walk into any shop and know that eg a size 10 would be the same regardless of brand.

Frickssake · 18/03/2021 10:21

Red candlelight- yes but would help people like me who need waist size 13

definitely! I woul love to see standardised sizing. would hrlp so much for online ordering as well.

Levi do in betweens too.

XiCi · 18/03/2021 10:24

There's only a couple of inches between sizes so a 14 is hardly going to drop off you. If you're trying something on in a store where the 14 is far too big then the 12 is likely to fit you. I just wish they would standardize the sizes between stores and even in store between garments. Hush is awful for this

BarbaraofSeville · 18/03/2021 10:24

Well seeing as you can (non covid times obviously) currently go into most shops and pick up clothes that look to be the same or a similar style and are labelled as the same size and they still don't fit in the same way, we're quite a long way from that particular holy grail.

You'd think shops would want to be consistent with fit and size and make clothes the same shape as their customers, especially as online shopping is likely to grow, but their current efforts are well off the mark.

MatildaTheCat · 18/03/2021 10:26

Uniqlo do uneven sizes.

My bugbear is the lack of variation of length. Most dresses come in one length; long for tall people. Some brands are utterly bizarre, I’ve no idea who might wear Em and Me for example other than catwalk models.

I’m short and if you shorten most clothes the proportions are lost and it can also be pretty expensive.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/03/2021 10:26

Uniqlo annoy me. Everything is too short.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 18/03/2021 10:30

Marks and Spencer did in between sizes for a while in a limited range of clothes iirc. It was about 30 years ago though. As someone with a smaller waist size than hips, finding skirts and trousers that fit can be restrictive, especially in more fitted styles. Pencil skirts would often fit me and another at the waist in order to fit on the hips!

ExcusesAndAccusations · 18/03/2021 10:32

Surely the fact that all shops size a bit differently is a boon for you OP. If you were reliably a size 13 in every single garment in every single shop then you’d be in real trouble (or have to make very good friends with your local tailor). The difference between shops makes it much more likely that you’ll be able to find a decent fit somewhere.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 18/03/2021 10:33

The hip to waist issue is a different problem for which the only answer is a seamstress. Pre-menopause I used them a lot (also to take up sleeves for my short arms).

ThePricklySheep · 18/03/2021 10:35

As others have said, try some shops that for smaller or larger than where you’re looking.
Where do you find you’re between a 12 and a 14? If you tell us we might be able to suggest some shops that fit smaller (so a 14 would fit), or larger, so a 12 would fit.
