I would need a size 13 - why are there no uneven sizes?

shops that fit*

I’ve got a pair of Next jeans, size 20, slightly too big. I bought a pair of In the Style jeans, size 20, can’t even get the button to meet anywhere near the middle, they’re at least 2 sizes too small. Clothes are a complete joke and meaningless.

joystir59 · 18/03/2021 10:37

Imo you are being ridiculous. Just get a 14! Noone is going to notice the miniscule difference in how your clothes fit.

joystir59 · 18/03/2021 10:39

@TheGriffle
I don't believe you. I'm a 12 and all size 13 clothes in all mainstream shops fit me. When I was obese and a size 20 but still putting weight on I could have written your post, but the reality was that my weight kept nudging upwards.

joystir59 · 18/03/2021 10:40

Size 12 not 13!!!

I think the OP needs to get this reposted to S&B where nobody would dream of saying anything as shocking as this Grin

She’s not being ridiculous. I’m between sizes.

Bigger size falls down, smaller size is too tight.

I just can't see how this can be so when there is so little difference. Its 2 inches, thats not the difference between tight and falling down. I ordered 2 sizes in a top, 10 and 12 a couple of weeks ago to see which would fit best and ended up just keeping both as they both fit. It was a basic tee and the difference was unnoticeable.

SuddenArborealStop · 18/03/2021 11:44

In primark you can't even be guaranteed that one 12 is the same as the one next to it in the same item of clothing and definitely not in another.

T shirts are cut with more ease in them.

Jeans are designed to fit properly and are notoriously difficult to get to do this.

Levi introduced their range about 10 years or so ago to accommodate different body shapes. They also have a body scanner in their London shop to scan a customer measurements. They then make a pair of jeans from this that are the perfect fit.

I worked as a pattern cutter and designer in the rag trade for years. I know how difficult it is to get items to fit correctly. 2 inches bigger may not seem much. But when you add in the ease then it can be more than 2 inches.

Ease is extra measurement applied to a manufactured garment to ensure it will fit the maximum of customers. Casual wear ( t shirts ) had the most ease. Jeans have the least. But they all have it. And jeans stretch too. So buying a pair 2 inches bigger isn’t the answer.

I’d buy the smaller ones, as they stretch and give. A rule of thumb is to buy a size smaller for this reason.

but then you havd the issue that arm or leg length is not idea

I had this with jeans from New Look. Loved them in fit and length, which as a short arse is unusual. I had them in black so ordered the burgundy and grey versions.

Totally different sizes. Same shop, apparently same jeans.

Also had it once where the difference between a size 18 pair and size 20 pair of the same jeans was 8 inches!

XiCi · 18/03/2021 12:07

Yes I always size down on jeans now because of the stretch element
Vintage jeans are as stiff as a board though and don't have that 'ease'. I much prefer the look and fit of them

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 18/03/2021 12:10

You just have to find somewhere that caters for your shape. I'm another one with a very small waist, a bum that sticks out, quite heavy thighs and then slim calves and ankles. I'm also plus sized though getting smaller. Jeans are a nightmare. in sizes where the thighs fit my legs, the waistband and stomach absolutely balloon. Palazzo pants and yoga pants are slightly easier because the waists are elasticated and therefore don't fall down quite as badly. But I think actually skirts tend to be the answer for my sort of figure (which is a shame as I don't really find them very warm or practical).

I don't believe anyone is the same size in all shops, their sizing varies so much.

People who claim to always wear the same size are normally wearing clothes that don't fit. I have clothes that fit in my wardrobe in at least three sizes

In fact even within the same shop they vary. Manufacturing in most high street shops just isn't accurate enough. Hold the clothes up against each other and see the variations.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/03/2021 12:17

Leg length wouldn’t change if she sized down, as long as it had a stated leg length. Ie 32 or 34. If it was just the next size down with no leg length then they might be shorter.

Carterbeatsthedevik. Those Levi ones might fit, let me find a link

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/03/2021 12:25

They’ve stopped doing them.

They did 3 shapes; hourglass, pear and straight up

So true - the one place it's worth going to early before the hoards in normal times just to be able to try everything you like in multiple sizes before you buy!
OverByYer · 18/03/2021 14:13

Yes!
Size 12 trousers tight on my thighs, fit my waist.
Size 14 fit my thighs but can get a fist down the back of the waist.
I’d love a size 13

SisterAgatha · 18/03/2021 14:14

I really wish there was a company that made dresses in two sizes. I am a 12 on top, 14-16 on the bottom, so I always buy the bigger size and have it taken in. I am sure there are ladies who have the opposite problem with a bigger top half. It’s infuriating.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/03/2021 09:22

I wish there were companies who when they make an L version of a dress, add the extra at the waist.

I’m sick of waistlines round my boobs.
