Doesn’t like any vegetables at all?
I was just watching a video about a man who wanted to find recipes he could eat that don’t contain vegetables as he doesn’t like any veg.

I mean come on.. there’s as many flavours in different vegetables as there are colours in the world.. yet he would proclaim to ‘hate all colours’

I just don’t get it. Kids I sort of understand; especially when they descend from fussy parents. But I just think ‘grow up’ when I read about adults not touching vegetables. I’m not talking about “I don’t like broccoli or carrots” - won’t eat vegetables at all.

And the “salad? Do I look like a rabbit?” Slur that comes from people

Who won’t eat anything remotely green or healthy, that saying really boils my piss. Just say no thank you?!

I know IABU as it’s none of my business but it just made me roll my eyes and would be interested to hear others opinions on it.

@CatsHairEverywhere is that aimed at my post or a particular commenter?

I’m confused if it’s aimed at my post as I haven’t mentioned ASD at all, nor do I believe every single
Fruit and Veg fussy person suffers with ASD.

Don’t try and insinuate that me and those who agree are discriminating against any type of disability when it’s not factually correct that every person who doesn’t like veg MUST have autism/ASD/any disability.

Infact, if that’s your thought process then perhaps you are the narrow minded one here..

I’d it’s not aimed at me then shame on that person who is discriminating.. Blush

@Swordfish1

Don't even get me started on the whole won't east chicken if its got a bone in it thing. I know 2 adults like this! But they will eat the exact same bit of chicken if its cut off the bone. It's Bloody loony.

For people who don't eat any veg at all. What one earth do you eat with your roast dinner? Just meat and potato? For me the veg is a really important part of a roast dinner.

I won't eat anything on a bone and I wouldn't eat the same cut off the bone eg chicken thigh. Urgh. Rib meat - urgh. Shanks - urgh. All gelatinous and just slimy.
QueenOfPain · 18/03/2021 12:29

I was a very picky kid and was basically raised on tins and freezer food.

With consistent work and dedication as an adult I now eat all kinds of things and really love and crave salad and vegetables. Still not so keen on fruit, but can manage a banana, an apple or some peaches.

It’s totally possible to turn things around and learn to love and enjoy vegetables.

StellaDendrite · 18/03/2021 12:30

@Bimblybomeyelash

It blows my mind that there are people who don’t eat veg. I can’t imagine how boring their food must be. Lots of meat and potatoes I suppose?
👀Not sure if you are joking or not but i hope you know that potatoes are vegetables.

So you can unblow your mind 🤯😁

Is the OP including potatoes in her rant?

CounsellorTroi · 18/03/2021 12:31

I don’t like picking off bones either tbh.

Morgan12 · 18/03/2021 12:32

Most vegetables taste like shit.

HTH.

theDudesmummy · 18/03/2021 12:33

Throughout the summer we do most of our our veg on the barbeque, completely different from stove/oven cooked food. I love most veg done any way, but broccoli or aparagus done on the barbeque is just heaven!

Cowbells · 18/03/2021 12:33

I know it sounds a bit ridiculous but I would find this more of a turn off than a man who smoked or was overweight. Men who won't eat veg give me the creeps, as though they never quite progressed from toddlerhood.

theDudesmummy · 18/03/2021 12:34

Asparagus cooked on the BBQ with a drizzle of melted butter and lemon juice is food of the gods! Certainly does not taste like shit!

Not too keen too. That's what my DH is for, but! The flavour is just different as the cut is different and it's cooked differently, so worth it, imo😁 Pulled chicken is just not the aame from breast as it is from thighs
Cowbells · 18/03/2021 12:37

I have an ASD son btw who only ate about five things for the first eight years of his life. I put new foods in front of him (without any pressure ot eat them) about 2000 times instead of the neurotypical 20 times, before he'd try them. I sneaked veg into the few foods he would eat. He's now an adult and not fussy at all. Even with ASD sensory processing issues it is possible to learn to love fruit and veg. It just takes several years. Worth the effort imo, as he has a lifetime now of enjoying healthy food.

Itsalwayssunnyin · 18/03/2021 12:38

This is where I do despair with people slightly. I am baffled at how people find sweets(literal blobs of chemicals)/beige food/ crisps fine to eat but won’t entertain the most natural form of food on earth. It’s such a first world problem and really quite disgusting.
They should want to fuel their body with nutrients even if it’s not as tasty as cheesy chips. It’s not always about what’s most enjoyable, it’s about what’s essential for your health!

QueenOfPain · 18/03/2021 12:40

Also, never eaten meat off the bone, or a steak or anything too meaty.

Struggle also with foods with unexpected changes in texture, such as a yoghurt with big fruit lumps in.

RampantIvy · 18/03/2021 12:41

Most vegetables taste like shit.

It depends how you cook them. I think vegetables, like a great many foods need a little extra seasoning or a different way of cooking to give them the wow factor.

I suspect that a lot of vegetable haters don't do a lot of cooking.

A real meal always needs protein and carbohydrates. Salad can be a side.

@MishaHarrow you can have protein and carbohydrates in a salad:
Rice salads
Pasta salads
Salad Nicoise (some recipes include new potatoes)
Caeser salad
Gado Gado

I always include a protein element in my salads. Yesterday for lunch I made a mixed salad and tossed in some cubes of cheese and some sunflower seeds. It was dressed with balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil.

I also think a fair few people would argue with you about the carb element. Not all meals need carbohydrates

QueenOfPain · 18/03/2021 12:42

Agree with @cowbells about it being a huge turn off when a man won’t eat vegetables or has an incredibly narrow diet. They certainly wouldn’t strike me as someone to conceive and raise fit and healthy children with.

JustanotherTuesday · 18/03/2021 12:43

A friend of mine will only eat onions, tomatoes or mushrooms if they are in a lasagne or bolognaise. She will eat potatoes and loves a roast.
Her husband eats vegetables but neither of her children do.
One child tried to be a vegetarian but found it too hard, as a lot of food they didn't like.

daisyjgrey · 18/03/2021 12:44

I don't have fussy parents and wasn't fed beige freezer food as a child. My sister likes veg. I don't. I've got better, I'll eat roasted carrots (but not boiled or steamed), roast parsnips, a small amount of kale, spinach if it's in a curry. Mushrooms if they're not cooked in something like a stew. I eat no salad, lettuce/tomatoes/cucumber etc.

It's not just taste, its textural as well. It's not for want of trying, and I've got better at it, but I just don't like them.

StanfordPines · 18/03/2021 12:44

Because it’s not possible to make a salad with protein and carbs in it. Hmm

StopGuacAndRoll · 18/03/2021 12:45

I didn’t think I liked much veg until I started cooking it myself. My parents would boil frozen sprouts to death, etc.

Now I know about seasoning and roasting ‘unusual’ veg like broccoli and I’m a queen now

daisyjgrey · 18/03/2021 12:46

Oh, I eat all fruit though. Unless it's cooked. Apple pie can piss off. Don't get me started on poached pears.

ScoobyCat · 18/03/2021 12:47

Nice bit of working -class bashing here, with a side order of the usual disablism crap that people with ASD have to face.

This particular gem is a corker

He's totally neurotypical, has a proper job etc

Yes because people with autism couldn’t possibly get proper jobs could they !

DavidsSchitt · 18/03/2021 12:47

"that saying really boils my piss. Just say no thank you?!"

Ugh, you picked the most awful saying to describe an awful saying. Disgusting 🤢

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 18/03/2021 12:48

I like one veg. Runner beans. I tolerate sweetheart cabbage and occasionally carrots if mixed with shepherd's pie. Any other veg makes me gag. I will literally vomit on the table if I try to eat it.

Same with salad. I like iceberg lettuce, coleslaw and cucumber. Nothing else.

To be fair vegetables are a lot nicer and generally more palatable to kids/fussy eaters when they're IN a dish rather than just PART OF a dish, if you see what I mean. My kids eat loads of vegetables as part of pasta sauces, stir fries with eggs and noodles, lasagnas, risottos, casseroles, etc. Growing up I was super fussy about veg because my experience of veg was boiled/steamed/fried cabbage or spinach or chunks of carrot or whatever just put on the plate next to some form of potato and some form of meat. Like three separate parts on one plate. So bizarre. I still wouldn't particularly want to eat vegetables like that!
MishaHarrow · 18/03/2021 12:50

@StanfordPines

It is possible, but the meat and carbs have to be the main course imo. Not just little chunks thrown in.
