Doesn’t like any vegetables at all?
I was just watching a video about a man who wanted to find recipes he could eat that don’t contain vegetables as he doesn’t like any veg.

I mean come on.. there’s as many flavours in different vegetables as there are colours in the world.. yet he would proclaim to ‘hate all colours’

I just don’t get it. Kids I sort of understand; especially when they descend from fussy parents. But I just think ‘grow up’ when I read about adults not touching vegetables. I’m not talking about “I don’t like broccoli or carrots” - won’t eat vegetables at all.

And the “salad? Do I look like a rabbit?” Slur that comes from people

Who won’t eat anything remotely green or healthy, that saying really boils my piss. Just say no thank you?!

I know IABU as it’s none of my business but it just made me roll my eyes and would be interested to hear others opinions on it.

OP posts:

I dont really like many veggies ,but will try and eat some green stuff .Love fruit though! Broccoli seems to have been eaten for ever ,so defo had enough of that now!

Topsyturveymam · 19/03/2021 20:07

Not always ..but sometimes it can be ARFID ...a type of eating disorder. My husband drives me up the wall with it. He’s seeing a specialist to tackle the issue.

Hovverry · 19/03/2021 20:08

My family has a lot of what we call picky eaters and with most of them it’s a refusal to ever eat any fruit or vegetables. Several are probably somewhere on the autistic spectrum.
I used to worry that my picky children would get scurvy. Now I’ve made the connection with autism I can see it running right through the family, unrecognised and undiagnosed for generations.

dotdashdashdash · 19/03/2021 20:11

Those of you who don't enjoy vegetables - have you explored different ways of cooking and seasoning them?

Yes, of course! I'm a very good cook. And I still dislike them. Exception being honey glazed roasted parsnip and fine beans sautéed in garlic butter and salt. I don't mind corn on the cob but pretty much slathered in butter and it's hardly a vegetable anyway.

CounsellorTroi · 19/03/2021 20:19

I do have a bit of an issue with sweet potato. It's fine in chunks, but I find the texture of it mashed horrible. It's slimier and more slippery than normal mashed potato.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/03/2021 20:22

Well OP, I was vegetarian for over twenty years and don't like vegetables that much! I do eat them, but I need to stew them for a long time or drench them in sauce. Can't stand most of them raw or just lightly cooked.

TatianaBis · 19/03/2021 20:31

Stewed vegetables 🤨

DoWhatYouWantTo · 19/03/2021 20:33

@Sixdegreesofseparation

Boils my piss has to be one of the ugliest terms you could choose to use Hmm just sayin
I think she meant 'boils her peas' An obvious typo
Pinkfluff76 · 19/03/2021 20:53

I like most veg except fennel, but I mostly avoid carb heavy veg out of choice - potatoes, butternut, carrots, peas, corn, beetroot, parsnips etc. Love aubergine and peppers especially. But agree they need to be cooked properly and frozen veg is vile!

Sunrainsnow · 19/03/2021 20:54

I know of someone who only eats the same everyday. Sausage sandwich for breakfast, sausage sandwich and crisps for lunch and sausage and chips for tea. No fruit or vegetables at all. It's obviously an eating disorder as nobody would choose to eat in such a way that is obviously so detrimental to their health.

I'm a vegetarian, but if I'm honest I am not overly keen on vegetables by themselves. We very rarely eat that sort of meal though. Pasta with a tomato based sauce, tofu and chickpeas with tomatoes, onion, spinach with couscous and hot salads, that sort of thing. When we visit my Mum she is more inclined to do meals with vegetables on the side and obviously I just get on and eat them. I wouldn't say I enjoy them though.

Flowers24 · 19/03/2021 20:54

Very bizarre!

NotACompleterFinis · 19/03/2021 20:59

We're conditioned to eat vegetables from an early age. No child eats vegetables by choice and they're entirely unnecessary for a healthy diet. There's lots of evidence out there if you can be bothered to look for it. Those of us have found it out of necessity because fruit and veg make us I'll. You keep taking them out of your diet til there's only animal fat and meat left. And you've never felt better, ever. I've never been so angry when I discovered the lies we've all been fed about nutrition. You won't believe me obvs.

GrandTheftWalrus · 19/03/2021 20:59

@HerRoyalNotness I don't like chicken on the bone either but if I hadn't told someone and they gave me it I would still make an effort with it.

RampantIvy · 19/03/2021 21:02

and frozen veg is vile!

Except for peas and broad bean. I agree about other frozen veg though.

kennycat · 19/03/2021 21:11

I'm really intolerant of fussy eaters. I'm not in the slightest bit bigotted about anything else but this drives me up the wall. If I had any in my family I'd have to ask them to move out I'm afraid!

LoveBeingAMum555 · 19/03/2021 21:28

My DH wont eat any veg at all (except onions and potatoes), including all types of salad. He doesnt eat fruit either. He has a couple of minor health problems and spends half the year with colds and other ailments, I swear this is something to do with his diet.

It is absolutely his choice but it makes eating out tricky and we mostly eat different meals at home as I eat a vegetarian diet. I also think his diet is very boring but I do understand how hard it would be to change now.

DayMonday · 19/03/2021 21:30

You've just solved questions I had about my ex-husband since years. I felt that something is wrong. But couldn't explain it. And of course he won't agree to any medical intervention. Thanks a lot. Bless you!

Kendodd · 19/03/2021 21:38

@NotACompleterFinis

So you only eat meat? Nothing else?

Kendodd · 19/03/2021 21:40

I knew someone once who wouldn't eat any fruit or veg. She even used to pick the peas and corn out of her Pot Noodle, she didn't want to spoil it.

I always wonder what really fussy eaters have at Christmas?

BashfulClam · 19/03/2021 21:55

I’m not a fan of most fed. I’ll try my best to have them ‘in disguise’ in Sauces/soups and roasted. Green veg are all butter to me and I think I might have the gene that makes them taste bad so I try to eat more colourful veg which is nicer to me.

TatianaBis · 19/03/2021 21:56

@NotACompleterFinis

Of course we won’t believe you because it’s nonsense. Since Homo sapiens evolved we have eaten the fruit of the land. Meat was a treat that came when the hunters managed to kill a mammoth, and later from the point we learnt to farm animals, it was for the rich.

More than 500g of red meat per week increases risk of colon cancer. High intake increases risk by up to 28%.

We are literally genetically programmed to eat fruit and vegetables.

MrsKoala · 19/03/2021 21:58

I know lots of people who wouldn’t eat chicken wings because they don’t like skin and fat on meat. I think chicken wings are quite an acquired taste really. Not something I’d choose to eat?

My veg refusers even don’t eat potatoes - even as chips. As while the outside could be crispy, the inside is squishy and wet feeling.

As for what they eat at Christmas- dry bread and pigs in blankets.

MeadowHay · 19/03/2021 22:07

Do toddler veg refusers ever grow out of it or is DD a lost cause already? Sad

Flatoutonsofa · 19/03/2021 22:19

Having issues with food can be a feature of autism. However that doesn't necessarily mean fruit and vegetables. Could be anything. Adults who only eat beige (or orange) food, ie, chicken nuggets, pizza, chips, aren't necessarily autistic. Some of them are just bloody awkward.

RampantIvy · 19/03/2021 22:23

@MeadowHay

Yes they do. DD was a very fussy eater as a child. She is now vegetarian, and often does veganuary. She eats just about all vegetables except for celery and spinach.
