Apple Watch costs a fortune. Worth it ?

I used to be a fitness freak, but since lockdown this past year I’m a couch potato. I really want to get the Apple Watch but it’s SO expensive. If anyone has one is it worth it? I had a Fitbit and loved it, kept checking every few hours to make sure I was on track, it’s somewhere in this house but very old and probably lost the charger...

@Carandi can you not buy a fabric strap from Amazon or Ebay? The strap was irritating my wrist too and found one for £9 and its been fine sincr.

Unless you meant the back of the watch face and I have misunderstood, for which I apologise!

I have a garmin 45S which I love. I toyed and toyed with the idea of the Apple Watch but the thing that put me off was the shorter battery life and the screen issue (breaking the screen renders the watch useless). My garmin cost me £130, is excellent for activity tracking, pairs with the phone so does the notifications thing. Not as snazzy as an Apple Watch but perfect for me.

I love it! I have a series 5! I use it to track exercise, to check my messages & calls, and I love closing the rings. Plus I find it stylish and change the straps quite often (I bought almost every colour from Ali Express).

I have the SE, which has most of the features of a Series 6, but without the ECG on ‘always on’ screen, and saves about £100. I absolutely love it. I use it to track runs, and find it gives a lot of information: splits, heart rate, incline, recovery... the distance/ time is accurate to within 30m of what Strava says, which is good enough for me! I don’t do interval training, so couldn’t comment on how it does with that.
It is easy to use, nice to look at, interacts brilliantly with my iPhone... I wouldn’t be without it now! Do get a screen protector for it though, I have a transparent bumper that I got in a pack of two off Amazon. Given how scratched the screen protector was when I changed it (after three months) it was a good job it was on there!!

@Newnamefor2021

Lol my husband bought the red 6 too, along with the red 11 iPhone and now tells me that they are coming out with new AirPod pros (I only bought the pros for him in Oct) and the new ones are red (and other colours). He's not getting them 😆
Ooooh my birthday is September and my AirPods are over 2 years old now...

I felt the same as you even after researching them, I didn't think it would be worth it. I've never worn a watch and thought I'd regret it. I have the SE now and I like it, I don't love it, but I do like it. I close my rings and I control my hive from it and I like it for controlling my music in the shower. Simple things, lol

Don't buy a fitbit. Had two - both died in under a year. Many many 1 star reviews online.

I got 2 summers out of my Fitbit, I didn't wear it over the winter.

Fitbits used to be amazing. I had a One which I think is still going strong- passed it on to a friend. The flex was good too. Not sure they have found their level with the wrist ones tbh I had a few.

My 3 girls have fitbits mostly used as watches tbh because we didn’t want to spend loads on something they wouldn’t use. Will probably upgrade them to Apple watches at some point.

The 6 is a game changer..

Always on (and bright)
Solo loop (no protruding clasp to snag)
Cellular (leave phone at home)
Quick

What does the voting stand for? I want to vote “worth it”

I paid around £700 for my series 4 stainless steel gold back in 2018 and adore it. There hasn’t been a moment where I have regretted the purchase.

It’s especially useful during lockdown, motivating me to stay fit and allowing me to easily use Apple Pay everywhere regardless of face masks.

However I am “gen z”. I grew up with tech and am a tech-fan, so it suits my lifestyle. I went for the more expensive finish as I knew I would wear mine everyday/every occasion and I didn’t want to miss out on my “smart” features by wearing a traditional watch on smarter occasions.

OnlyHerefortheBiscuits · 29/03/2021 12:12

I find watches really uncomfortable but love the idea of a smart watch.

I have had garmins and fitbits...all uncomfortable.

For some reason I bought the new Apple Watch SE. Probably because it is a cheaper entry level one at half the price of their other models previous. It’s really comfortable, I forget I have it on. Even manage to sleep just fine wearing it.

So from someone who ‘hates’ watches, finds them irritating and uncomfortable and has never worn them....I love the Apple Watch!
