To think I am not the only one who thinks about doing stupid things?

I don’t know if there’s a name for it, but that weird urge to do something really foolish, even though you know it’s stupid.

I was just using the shears and was thinking about putting my tongue on the blade (I’m obviously not going to do that), but these odd thoughts just pop up. I’m in no way thinking about self harm or even feel low, so I can’t really explain it. Does anyone else have these odd urges or should I be worried?

@CombatBarbie to a degree I agree, but I also think perhaps if you can just move past the weird urge and move on then perhaps it’s fine (or at least I’m hoping that’s the case). I haven’t thought about putting my tongue on a sharp edge since posting this, it was just a random urge at the time.

Interesting I watched a video of random things people do as child - just as putting push pins under their skin or stabbing a rubber with a pencil. I wonder if it’s more complicated than being normal or abnormal and actually we all have odd childhood urges to just see what happens.

Yep.

I regularly stick a finger in the hole in a drinks can, I know I will then have to hack the can off with a knife and some scissors, but before my brain has even finished saying “I wonder if my finger will fit?” it has already been jabbed in.

I recently dropped my phone off my balcony as my brain asked “hmm wonder if it would break or not?”

Ripping things up, from train tickets, to boarding passes to exam certificates, a bit like a dog destroying the post.

Ah, the joys of ADHD.
