Cuppa tea

Does this rub anyone else up the wrong way? I don't drink tea but I'll have 'a coffee' or 'a cup of coffee'.

Having a 'cuppa' just annoys me. Mainly from MIL who also says she has 'to go a wee'.

It's causing friction because I correct the kids, would never correct mil but obviously she sees it like I am. I just can't stand it!

I use cuppa, not very often and I don’t drink coffee so it works I guess.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/03/2021 23:22

I’m sure we had a cuppa/ brew thread the other day!

PickAChew · 16/03/2021 23:26

I think you need something stronger than tea to help you with that stick up yer arse, me love.

macaronirabbit · 16/03/2021 23:33

I dont drink tea but cuppa or brew dont offend me.

Does "going for a pint" also cause offence ?(I mean no one specifies a pint of what?)
Or even going for drinks? (Drinks of what?)

Sonetimes people ask if I want to meet for a coffee (normal times) I just say yes because it's essentially meeting for a chat and beverage of some kind. I dont drink coffee either.

It’s better than ‘brew’. It’s much better than ‘go toilet.’ (As in ‘I want to go toilet’, said by a native speaker of English.)

Mittens030869 · 16/03/2021 23:38

I say ‘cuppa’, but then I only ever drink tea, as I don’t like coffee. But it’s a very common colloquialism.

Seriously, this must be about more than just the phrases she uses for tea/coffee.

CattyCactus · 16/03/2021 23:43

“Go a wee” 😖😖😖😖

Enough4me · 16/03/2021 23:48

OP, calm down n av a cuppa pet.

Ohnomoreno · 16/03/2021 23:56

There are bigger problems. I never say it but am not really bothered by what other people say. Otherwise I might try into my ex,who shouted at his own mother for half an hour because she asked him if he "would like to make me a cup of tea". This was apparently unacceptable because she should have said she wanted one rather than ask if he would like to make it. Proper fucking angry with an 80 year old....

Forkorspoon · 17/03/2021 00:22

Amazing what some folks find time to be annoyed about. If you are correcting your kids in front if her then she has a very good read on what you're doing. Try taking the stick outta your arse, a cuppa might help.

BigPaperBag · 17/03/2021 07:36

Cuppa is fine.
Go a wee is really NOT fine.
My personal hatred is when people say either tuth or tuth-brush for tooth and toothbrush respectively 😫😫 Speak properly!!
