DDs teacher and school shoes

I will start by saying I love DCs primary school and have a great relationship with them.

However this morning has been a total frikkin nightmare!!!

DD4 had the most monumental tantrum, because her teacher Mrs A said "you shouldn't be wearing those shoes they are too big for you!"

Now DD is actually between sizes 1 foot an 8 and the other just over so I had to buy the bigger size, but AIBU to think teacher should speak to me directly and not through DD?

This morning has been hellish all because Mrs A couldn't keep her beak out!

He is a size 4. He has spent all day in size 6 shoes... School shoes are compulsory...
Even in lockdown apparently... Maybe I am expected to make some myself...
Egg box and some empty loo roll tubes...painted black obviously..

So the teacher did nothing wrong and your daughter overreacted, as four year olds do sometimes. But your first reaction was to assume the worst of the teacher and blame her. What’s that about?

Honestly you’d be surprised at the amount of parents who send their children in to school with shoes that don’t fit, and it’s often not because of a lack of money.

@Easterbunnygettingready

I have also had a school shoe and teacher incident op. Last night ds's sole fell off!! Got changed then he went out on his bike and had an accident.. A policeman brought him home. Cut hand, gave him first aid... Forgot about shoes. 6 am today did the required 3 x covid tests and uploaded results (3 x dc at secondary school).. Forgot to write about shoes in ds's planner.. Rang school to mention it. No answer.. They rang me. Ds in isolation due to wearing black trainers...school stock shoes but not his size (small feet).. Told them hardly fair when his shoes are broken and shoe shops are shut.. Teacher suggested a supermarket pair.... Sorry job I will be late..an hour later... none of our 3 supermarkets had any. Rang school.. Apparently I should buy black trainers... As he is wearing I said?? Dh rang the trust 'Hotline'.. Apparently school stock new shoes. Or need to accept black trainers short term. Went to take ds home. Isolation until shoes shops open is ridiculous... Turn up and show them his old shoes... They find ds sporting too big shoes and looking upset-they found some a size too big ... All good in their eyes.. Never mind being late for work and sticking ds in a room for wearing black trainers all along.. Bonkers...
This is shocking!

@Easterbunnygettingready have you considered writing a letter of complaint? This is really not the time to be fussing about the shoes kids are wearing, especially as your Ds' are broken and shoe shops aren't actually open at the moment 🤦‍♀️.

rabbitheadlights · 16/03/2021 17:42

@nailsneeddoing the teacher was wrong actually in both that her shoes do fit and in that she should have spoken to us and not DD.

Will be emailing the trust that runs the school. Just seen ds pre ordered a lunch for isolation. And paid again at lunch time in the line. Have already complained about lunches as the fingerprint system isn't on due to Covid... At the till anyone can give anyone's name and the money comes off the balance.... Bonkers...

I've had the opposite problem! Child goes to school in brand new shoes. The third new pair ordered because size 8 doesn't actually mean anything, they are all different sizes. Child moans to teacher that her foot hurts. Teacher suggests to child that the new shoes are too small and child may have blisters. Of course, following this, child can no longer walk in new shoes. After a fun walk home, the shoes and feet are checked again. Perfectly fine. Not a blister nor a mark on her. But can child go to school in the third brand new pair of shoes without fuss? Absolutely not.

Notavegan · 16/03/2021 20:24

Have you checked the shoes stay solid on foot if tugged and are not slipping when she walks. Different types fit differently (shoe fitter ).

CrappingMyself · 16/03/2021 20:30

@Easterbunnygettingready why not buy shoes online? I've just had to do that for my DS.

Easterbunnygettingready · 16/03/2021 20:40

Ds was born with club feet. Quite wide and flat now!! Trying on is essential!!

NormanStangerson · 16/03/2021 21:06

@rabbitheadlights

Update, DP asked teacher at pick-up, teacher explained that yes they were playing shoe shop and that when DD put her shoes back on she had complained that they "feel funny" and quote "just put DDs foot against the bottom of the shoe flat/flat and they look awfully big! "

Transpires Mrs A had put the smaller to foot against the base of the shoe, so I suppose they would look quite big, anyway it's all sorted now. I'm not particularly annoyed I just would rather not have had the drama at the crack of dawn.

What an absolute load of flapping over a non-incident.

@Easterbunnygettingready however, that is batshit. Sometimes schools are officious for the sake of it, I’m sure.

Findahouse21 · 16/03/2021 21:09

If they were playing shoe shops and the shoes appear too big, maybe the teacher thought she had someone else's shoes on, hence the throwaway comment.

CrappingMyself · 16/03/2021 21:12

Ah, Ok @Easterbunnygettingready but you said you went to 3 supermarkets to get a pair for him whilst he was in isolation?

Easterbunnygettingready · 16/03/2021 21:26

They said I had to. Would have been cheap and possibly chucked ASAP. Not ordering decent shoes that don't fit properly.. And arsing about sending them back!

Sounds like my sons high school i rang them his shoes don't fit how much trouble would he get into lots apparently 🙄 he should just wear supermarket shoes except they dont fit he has orthotic insoles a high arch cant do laces (really really can't I suspect dyspraxia the lack of coordination means we haven't progressed to a simple knot yet) and his feet are usually a H fitting after several lots of wasted postage ive managed to squeeze him into some G fitting shoes i swear they are not really suitable but its that or isolation and detention i like the school but they are wrong on this one
Easterbunnygettingready · 17/03/2021 07:38

He is going in black trainers today!
