Has lockdown made you want to move house/area?

Just curious whether it’s only me that feels this way!

Not at all. It's made me wish I knew more people in the area but we've found some lovely walks, picnic spots and areas we'd not previously properly explored.

SimplyMarvellousDarrrrrrling · 15/03/2021 20:12

No, the reverse, I'm so grateful for what we've achieved, despite all the hard work and upsets along the way

MsOgyny · 15/03/2021 20:13

In about week 2 of lockdown 1 I started planning to move. I'm so BORED of every street around here now, and every room in our house... my plans have grown and grown, and are wildly unobtainable, but yes, i do so desperately want to move!

DuesToTheDirt · 15/03/2021 20:15

It's made me appreciate my area more, actually. We have endless different walks from our house, and since walking is about the only thing to do these days...

Wondermule · 15/03/2021 20:16

It’s like it put where I live under a microscope, and made me realise I only like it because of proximity to other things. The place itself is really blah.

Yes but only because having worked from home for the last year I am sick to death of my house. I am sure I would have felt the same wherever I lived and am hoping that once things get back to normal I can fall back in love with my house.

LawnFever · 15/03/2021 20:17

No, but I’m so glad we moved about a year before lockdown, if we were still in our old house/area it would’ve all been so much harder

customwatkins · 15/03/2021 20:18

If I lived in a city I think lockdown would've made me consider moving to the countryside.

cyclingmad · 15/03/2021 20:19

Its made me really want a detached douse so I dont have to put up with neighbour noise I never noticed before.

Since I cant afford that, im just counting down days I can get out of my house and go places all day long!

megletsecond · 15/03/2021 20:19

Yes. I live on a crap ex council estate, messy neighbours, drug dealers, no community partly due to bad design and most people not giving a shit.

I tolerated it pre-pandemic. We were able to go away regularly and on loads of days out so home was just a base. Even 12yr old DD said she hated home today.

EileenGC · 15/03/2021 20:19

Yes and no. I’ve missed ‘home’ terribly. Actually I haven’t missed the place that much, more the possibility of just popping on a plane and spending the weekend there.

No, because I’ve come to finally appreciate the city I live in. I’ve discovered the local parks, quirky routes to work and I’m just enjoying it more than before, in general.

whyhell0there · 15/03/2021 20:20

Yes! Love our area but desperately want more space and to be in a house rather than a flat with noisy upstairs neighbours!

House hunting is insane at the moment though - everything is overpriced.

ILovemyCatsSoSoMuch · 15/03/2021 20:22

Yes! Moved area in the autumn. Every day of lockdown 3 I’ve thanked my lucky stars.

Where we lived and what was around us became more important, and don’t be commuting to the office 5 days a week in future.

CuriouslyStardust · 15/03/2021 20:23

Yes, we've decided our rent in the SE is far too expensive just to sit in the house. So we're planning to move back up North and accept we're compromising the job market but also over halving our rent! It helps that we don't have many roots in the area anyway and covid has made sure we don't get a chance to make any!

JosieJarker · 15/03/2021 20:24

Its made me want my neighbours to move house.

That’s awful. Is there any possibility for you to move?

Move house, yes. We live in a very small 2 bed house with a terrible layout. I used to work very long hours in a London office, with a long commute and I was busy with various hobbies over the weekend, so I was not really in the house much.

I will now be working from home full time. I have realised how small and awkwardly my house is after being in it pretty much full time over the last year.

I need more space, a separate study and a better downstairs layout where the living room isn’t also the route to the kitchen.

I want a hallway, a separate lounge, an upstairs bathroom and hopefully detached.

We are putting the house on the market within weeks..

1Morewineplease · 15/03/2021 20:31

We moved, 23 years ago to a town in Kent.
It was a company relocation. We've never liked it here and, now that my husband has retired, there's no reason to stay here anymore.
We want to move away , but we don't know where to. Lockdown just made us realise how much we want to move away.

MumofPsuedoAdult · 15/03/2021 20:37

No but it's made me hate the sight of my home. I'm so sick to death of every room. I've already decided that when things move closer to new normal (ie I can actually go and work in my office) I'm going to move the furniture around in every room to make it feel different to how it has for the last year so that I can actually enjoy coming home again.

LongIslandIcedT · 15/03/2021 20:37

Not fed up of the area but my house feels ridiculously small all of us living/ working in it 24/7. So much so that we are planning a huge renovation in the next year.

Chocolatehabit · 15/03/2021 20:37

Yes and our house is going on the market this week!!

This is part of it for me as well. I was on mat leave in 2019 so I have literally been sat in my living room for the best part of 2 years. Sick of the sight of it.

We moved during lockdown, in December. I feel very lucky to have done so. Our old area was bloody expensive and not great, but pricy due to proximity to central London. We’ve not had any of the benefit of London so moving out was the right call for us. We had a baby in August as well so it’s something I would have wanted to do, but until the stamp duty holiday we couldn’t have afforded it. I love where I live now.
