To think he’s lying about vaccine

My dad has a lot of health issues making him CEV he’s been shielding since last March. He has always refused to have a flu jab (despite it being recommended as he has COPD) before Christmas he was very outspoken about the COVID vaccine. We discussed it, although I accepted it was decision to make. I asked him what he was worried about and a lot of it was misinformation he had read on Facebook. I didn’t force my viewpoint on him just corrected some of the things he had read.
He got invited for a vaccine and when I was at his house (I’m his carer and he’s in our household bubble) I asked if he wanted me to book his appointment for him. He agreed and didn’t raise any objection. I booked him for his first jab in February and his second in April.
Last week I asked what date his second jab was as I couldn’t remember which day it was (and didn’t have the screenshot with me) He said he couldn’t remember. I said it would be on the card that everyone gets. Apparently he didn’t get the card that says your name, DOB, which vaccine it was and the batch number and the date.
I questioned it as everyone else I’ve seen on Facebook and myself personally got a card. He said no they just give me this and pulled out a leaflet for the Oxford vaccine. Like the leaflet which comes with medication with side effects and things and said this is all he got.
I questioned why he wasn’t given the vaccine card and he just shrugged and said he didn’t know he needed one so never asked.
The thing is he’s been booked in for stuff before e.g a prostate exam and when I asked how it went he told a huge long tale about the hospital parking. Then he ended up in hospital and it turned out he had never gone to the appointment and he just lied.
AIBU in thinking he’s lying that he went?
If he’s not lying I’m not sure how they will be able to give him the second jab as they surely can’t just take his word of which vaccine and date he had it on.
My kids are at school/nursery and if he hasn’t had even the first immunization I’m stressed to bits that he will catch it from them.

My card just had the details about the vaccine, the date, and a space for you to write your own name.
In my experience, and that of friends and family, people who had their vaccines at mass centres were given the date for their second jab when they had their first. Whereas, people who received theirs through their GP network, were told they would receive a similar text invitation for the second dose as they had had previously. That’s how mine worked.

doctorhamster · 15/03/2021 17:29

I didn't get a card and I don't know when my second one will be...I was told to phone up a week before it's due if I haven't heard from them.

FireflyRainbow · 15/03/2021 17:29

I know a few people only get given a leaflet. No idea if they all had the same one at the same venue. Assume so.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/03/2021 17:30

@willibald

I never got a card or a second appointment date.
So, what happens if you need to prove you've had it?
RuthW · 15/03/2021 17:37

You don't always get a card. You don't need it for anything.

callthevet · 15/03/2021 17:40

My mum didn't get a card. I was with her when she had her jab

JustLyra · 15/03/2021 17:40

So, what happens if you need to prove you've had it?

Anywhere that ever needed actual proof of it, for whatever reason, would be looking for a proper letter from a GP or the likes. Not a bit of card with a handwritten name on it.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 15/03/2021 17:43

My Dad wasn’t given a card. My Mum went to same centre 2 weeks later and was given and second appointment.

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 17:48

They'd run out of cards when I had my (first) done. They said it didn't matter and I wouldn't need it, although they wrote down the batch number on a piece of paper for me. When I questioned further (I wanted one), they said I could drop in after a few days when they had a new delivery.
I haven't done so yet though.

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 17:48

That said, the rest of what you've said about your dad would also make me suspicious that he hadn't been for it.

tangoboxing · 15/03/2021 17:50

if you had AZ via the GP & haven't been given a date for the second appointment you should be able to book it via the central website now (if you're in England). If you had Pfizer via the GP you'll need to wait for them to contact you.

Not everyone gets a card - the 'proof' you've had it is your medical record (takes a day or so to update) which will also contain batch number. My card didn't even have my name on just a sticker with the AZ batch number & date it was given - entirely useless for use as proof of anything!

May17th · 15/03/2021 17:53

@willibald

I never got a card or a second appointment date.
Did you not book BOTH appointments at the same time? I thought you had to?
islockdownoveryet · 15/03/2021 18:25

The card that I was given just has the date and batch . No 2nd appointment given .
If he doesn’t want it why lie if he’s so vocally normally.
It’s on my nhs file I have the app with all my medical records .You can’t make him just except it .

Runningincircles · 15/03/2021 21:21

My husband was just given a leaflet and no card. They said that he would get the card after the 2nd vaccine. My husband definitely did have the vaccine.
We are in North Oxfordshire.
He had the Pfizer vaccine.

Oldraver · 15/03/2021 21:41

I got a card with batch number etc but not my name on it. No second one booked

OH didnt get a card but has second one booked

Xiaoxiong · 15/03/2021 21:46

I got a card, but they said it was "just for your records". I can't yet book a second date. They just said I'd be texted again closer to the time to book my second.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 15/03/2021 21:59

Neither of my grandparents were given a card when they had their first one

Mally2020 · 15/03/2021 22:17

YANBU I work in covid vaccinations and so many of the elderly, especially mostly the BAME community elders are walking out of their vaccinations or just not turning up. Ridiculous really that so many rumours and misinformation are being spread about it , I have had people argue with me about the facts despite me studying bioscience MSc and working in the vaccinations, it's rude as most people wouldn't walk into a barbers and tell the barber they are wrong about their specialism.

minchinfin · 15/03/2021 22:20

The cards are just for you, they don't actually mean anything. Who has or hasn't been vaccinated is tracked centrally via your NHS number. So as soon as you've had the first dose (well a few days later to allow time for the database to be updated) you can book your own second does on the central NHS vaccination site by entering your NHS number and DOB (or wait for your GP to contact you again after the appropriate interval, which they will)

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 15/03/2021 22:34

My folks were called by the go to have their AZ jabs at their regular surgery. Only the first appt was booked. All the batch details etc were put straight onto the computer, and they were given just the patient leaflet and the card saying they’d had AZ. They’ll be called again for the second jab along with all the others vaccinated in the same window.

I think you’d dad must be telling the truth, but can understand your scepticism!

JFCO · 15/03/2021 22:38

My mum did not get a card after first vaccine, too. But she went 😄

XenoBitch · 15/03/2021 22:40

Says a lot if he feels he has to lie about it to you. Having the vaccine, or not, is up to him. Stop hounding him about it and treat him like an adult.
Also, not everyone has had cards.

Mydogmylife · 15/03/2021 22:46

@AliceSprings123

Doesn't ring true,OP. We're all given one, aren't we? And there's a space for the 2nd appt. date, too, which is given at the time of the 1st. But, what to do? Given Data Protection, but that you're his Carer, can only suggest you speak to his Surgery for their advice? You'll be able to voice your suspicions too. - they'll have all his NHS details and they might be the pathway to finding out the truth. Does that make sense?
No , DH wasn't given a card
Chloemol · 15/03/2021 23:02

My mum didn’t get a card, just a sheet of paper with her next appointment on
