To think he’s lying about vaccine

My dad has a lot of health issues making him CEV he’s been shielding since last March. He has always refused to have a flu jab (despite it being recommended as he has COPD) before Christmas he was very outspoken about the COVID vaccine. We discussed it, although I accepted it was decision to make. I asked him what he was worried about and a lot of it was misinformation he had read on Facebook. I didn’t force my viewpoint on him just corrected some of the things he had read.
He got invited for a vaccine and when I was at his house (I’m his carer and he’s in our household bubble) I asked if he wanted me to book his appointment for him. He agreed and didn’t raise any objection. I booked him for his first jab in February and his second in April.
Last week I asked what date his second jab was as I couldn’t remember which day it was (and didn’t have the screenshot with me) He said he couldn’t remember. I said it would be on the card that everyone gets. Apparently he didn’t get the card that says your name, DOB, which vaccine it was and the batch number and the date.
I questioned it as everyone else I’ve seen on Facebook and myself personally got a card. He said no they just give me this and pulled out a leaflet for the Oxford vaccine. Like the leaflet which comes with medication with side effects and things and said this is all he got.
I questioned why he wasn’t given the vaccine card and he just shrugged and said he didn’t know he needed one so never asked.
The thing is he’s been booked in for stuff before e.g a prostate exam and when I asked how it went he told a huge long tale about the hospital parking. Then he ended up in hospital and it turned out he had never gone to the appointment and he just lied.
AIBU in thinking he’s lying that he went?
If he’s not lying I’m not sure how they will be able to give him the second jab as they surely can’t just take his word of which vaccine and date he had it on.
My kids are at school/nursery and if he hasn’t had even the first immunization I’m stressed to bits that he will catch it from them.

See, plenty of us did not get a card! I, like him, only got the leaflet. That's it. I can assure you I had that jab, it made me dog rough for 2 days and I had a sore arm for a week and a big red patch.

LolaNova · 15/03/2021 16:12

Not everyone has had a card. Sometimes they aren’t available. Even if he didn’t have his vaccine at his GP surgery, there will be a record of his vaccination made available to them. The leaflet you are talking about sounds like the ones you get inside the vaccine packet? How else would he get one?

LeviAckerman · 15/03/2021 16:12

He probably is lying from what you've said but not because of not having the card. I've never even heard of the card. They ticked my name off a list when I went for mine and then said if I hadn’t had my second appointment through by ten weeks later to phone up and get an appointment. No-one got a card.

Everythingiswonderful · 15/03/2021 16:14

Doesn't ring true,OP. We're all given one, aren't we?

There have been several sessions where we have run out of cards.

op where do you think he got the leaflet from if he didn’t go for his vaccs? Genuinely wondering where btw, not being snarky.

Tinydinosaur · 15/03/2021 16:16

Whether he's lied or he hasn't its his choice, just leave him to it.

Partychaos · 15/03/2021 16:26

Thank you all. It’s reassuring to know that everyone hasn’t got a card.
@Everythingiswonderful I was thinking he had gone to the appointment and backed out and that he had been given a leaflet to read over by the nurses. But other people are saying they also only got the leaflet which is really reassuring.

My dad didn't get a card when he had his vaccine. He was told they had ran out and they would fill it in at his second vaccine. He was also given a leaflet about side effects.

ErickBroch · 15/03/2021 16:32

Very concerned some of you didn't receive a card - not good. I would report it to 119 because everyone should receive one so, on their 2nd appointment, they can confirm the previous vaccine was the same and the date.

ddl1 · 15/03/2021 16:33

My card for the first jab doesn't give date of birth or the date of the next jab.

JustLyra · 15/03/2021 16:33

They can easily do that through records.

They are managing to do without cards in the whole of Scotland so it's not crucial.

Beautiful3 · 15/03/2021 16:35

I took my dad to his and he didn't get a card, just a leaflet. Nor did they give me his second appointment, they'll call me when it's due.

Why? They have a record of it. A card can be lost, thrown out by mistake, etc. It's a piece of paper.
TwoBlueFish · 15/03/2021 16:37

I didn’t get a card at all, when I questioned it they said it was being done electronically. My vaccine was booked via a GP text. My DH booked his through the National service and did get a card.

saraclara · 15/03/2021 16:39

If you book online through the standard govt website due to your age cohort being called, you have to book the second one at the same time. People who've been contacted by GPs or through workplace plans, don't seem to have to.

Whatalottachocca · 15/03/2021 16:40

The nurse who did mine forgot to give me a card. I asked for it (as my husband was given one so I knew I should be given one) and she was very apologetic and gave one to me. It was the end of a king day and she was tired.

Bangkokbaby · 15/03/2021 16:43

I wasn't given a card. I'm in Scotland and none of my colleagues who have had their 1st dose got a card either. I only got the leaflet with information and side effects.
I got an email when it was time for me to rebook.

ErickBroch · 15/03/2021 16:46

I vaccinate and we have just been told very differently - must just be regional/by city or something.

Bouledeneige · 15/03/2021 16:51

I got a card with batch number, date, name and type of vaccine. My second appointment is not yet booked. Clearly it varies.

Maybe offer to take him for his vaccination. I did that for my 91yr old Dad.

RavingAnnie · 15/03/2021 16:52

Why the need to "feel reassured" when you've been told you can just check online. So just have a look and you will know one way or the other.
aramox · 15/03/2021 16:54

Actually my sister is in the same position - definitely had it as someone took her but no evidence of it. Surgery is supposed to contact her to book the next one.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 15/03/2021 16:55

I didn't get a card, I just booked my 1st and 2nd vaccination online and that was that.

RubyTrees · 15/03/2021 16:57

I was given a card plus the AZ leaflet. I've also checked my records in Patient Access and it's listed in the Immunisations section (although the brand name isn't mentioned).

RubyTrees · 15/03/2021 17:01

Correction to my post above:

The brand name of the vaccine appears in the Medications section.

rabbitheadlights · 15/03/2021 17:22

You only get given the patient information leaflet when you've had the jab, I think he's telling the truth

speakout · 15/03/2021 17:26

What can you do though OP?

It is his choice whether he gets the vaccine or not.
It is his decision to make, not yours.
