Those of you who are pro lockdown/masks/ social distancing would you be happy with this?

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1409787/coronavirus-news-social-distancing-mask-rules-end-imperial

YABU yes. However long it takes
YANBU no way. It cant go on that long

slashlover · 14/03/2021 18:27

It depends what they mean by social distancing. Not having strangers stand too close to me in public - YABU. Not being able to see my parents/friends - YANBU.

Wotsnewpussycat · 14/03/2021 18:37

I'm happy to continue social distancing, even wearing masks in shops. I miss family and friends but TBH can't imagine going back to normal- the prospect puts me on edge.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/03/2021 18:44

Honestly? Absolutely honestly?
Peopel can be fucking disgusting so yes. Social dostancing with strangers in public places? Why not. Lovely.
Masks? So no idiots sneezing and coughing all over supermarket and on fruits and veg? Yay? Same in a bus.

And oh my god, humans really needed a reminder to wash their hands after public toilets. I mean... There is a reason I carried hand gel well before the pandemic.

If that would carry on "for years" I would, I lf I were in that position, demand a proof of exempt card which could be shown when required. That would very much atop piss taking and moods against non mask wearers

TrickorTreacle · 14/03/2021 18:49

I put YANBU - it can't go on for that long. We need to hold a certain country in the Far East to account, because we have lost a year of our lives.

Chloemol · 14/03/2021 18:51

Depends, if it means close family can’t meet indoors, ( happy to exclude friends etc) then perhaps not

If it means mask wearing, 2m away, reduced numbers in shops as now, then yes. Partly as it has also reduced flu cases, partly because it’s more hygienic

Chanjer · 14/03/2021 18:51

Can you just tell me so I don't have to click on express links Grin

SarahBellam · 14/03/2021 18:53

What the fuck are you going to do to ‘hold a certain country in the Far East to account?’ @TrickorTreacle? Give them a wedgie? 🙄

Happy to continue with the masks and social distancing if it gets everything back to normal quicker.

BonnieDundee · 14/03/2021 18:55

Chanjer scientist from imperial college say we are at beginning of pandemic and masks and SD could go on for years

OP posts:
PinkBuffalo · 14/03/2021 18:56

YAnbu
I need friends as unlike pp I not have close family this last year has been hell

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/03/2021 18:57

Give them a wedgie?
😂😂

SerendipityJane · 14/03/2021 18:57

It's been fascinating watching programmes (documentaries) made during lockdown where presenters are socially distanced - sitting a good 2m apart. (Also fascinating the lack of notice that it was filmed under lockdown conditions, which makes me wonder if there's an eye for repeats and trying not to appear dated).

However, I am sure more women than men would welcome a world where - if man really are unable to control themselves - then at least they have to stay 2m away in public.

SoupDragon · 14/03/2021 18:59

However long it takes. (I have voting turned off)

What is the alternative, really?

Chanjer · 14/03/2021 18:59

Masks I actually quite enjoy so not bothered. If they remain socially acceptable then I might persist with them from now anyway

Social distancing for years I would not be keen on and I mean looking about today I think alot of people are well and truly over it. The roads today were like a pre plague rush hour!

I agree that this is just the beginning of covid but at some point enough people will simply stop caring if it becomes the norm

RedcurrantPuff · 14/03/2021 19:01

Nope. It’s a pathetic suggestion. We have to live with this now regardless of the number of deaths.

ServeTheServants · 14/03/2021 19:01

I am not prepared to continue wearing masks. I’ll happily socially distance (although do find it quite exhausting to always be so super conscious of where I am in relation to others at all times), but definitely no to masks.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 14/03/2021 19:02

If I wanted to read bigoted trash from the likes of the Express, I'd read their website.

RedRiverShore · 14/03/2021 19:03

So are the government going to pay furlough for ever or just accept that some jobs will never be back and that people will have to change career.

peak2021 · 14/03/2021 19:04

Face coverings in certain situations especially hospitals and GPs I would be supportive of, perhaps also on public transport over next winter. A winter without the usual level of colds and flu would be a bit of respite for the NHS.

Not sure about other restrictions. We never had anything remotely like a lockdown for anyone other than those who were shielding.

SoupDragon · 14/03/2021 19:05

To add to my earlier post: I'm prepared to do what it takes in order to avoid another lockdown.

Crazycatlady83 · 14/03/2021 19:10

We really can’t be drawn into debates restricting our civil liberties for unlimited amounts of time. This has to be about hospitalisations / deaths. If they don’t trust their vaccines to protect against this, then we have to change tactic. We have to be given a choice and that can’t be covid versus everything else. Lockdowns / testing / other measures have knock on effects and as a society, it’s clear these have to be temporary measures. We cannot condemn a large part of our young to not being about to have jobs / travel / meet new partners. We cannot condemn our old people to dying alone in care homes to “keep them safe”.

I say this in the knowledge that the person giving their “opinion” is a colleague of Professor Lockdown who he has made his mark throughout this pandemic as a doom monger. He seems to be the same sort of “expert”. Now things are improving, these people will say / do anything to stay in the media.

Weepingwillow22 · 14/03/2021 19:12

Social distancing in the long term means many businesses will not longer be viable. I think we will have some stark choices to make.

The article is very vague on both timescale and what social distancing means. Wearing a mask on public transport and in hospitals is more reasonable than in an entertainment venue or pub.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/03/2021 19:12

restricting our civil liberties for unlimited amounts of time

Is it someone's "civil liberty" to have to be less than 2 meters away from me?

RedRiverShore · 14/03/2021 19:14

I'm wondering if it's worth bothering with the vaccine as I probably won't be going anywhere anyway if things don't change

Dottybirds · 14/03/2021 19:18

I like masks and wfh so that would be fine
Not seeing my parents and other loved ones? Not fine

I think most people aren’t wholly pro-restriction.

Crazycatlady83 · 14/03/2021 19:21

@SchrodingersImmigrant it’s very clear that most businesses won’t survive with the socks distancing regulations in place. So you can stay away from people as much as you like, but people have a right to earn a living and at the moment, we are taking that away from people.
