I am super close with my MIL and am on a tight budget this month and wanted to make her something special from me for mothers day. My DH has got her some little things and me and the kids made cards yesterday. ....

Anyway here it is she's got a great sense of humour and uses the word gobshite all the time.
It's a wall hanging hand embroidered hoop picture

Is this homemade mothers day gift naff?
@Aprilx op has said that mil uses that word all the time and its her sense of humour.
@BrownEyedGirl80

I can read thank you. Confused

There are words I use, I said poo this morning, it doesn’t mean I want it embroidered into a cushion or other home furnishing.

Felifox · 14/03/2021 10:45

Great fun, the sort of quirky thing you can display in the downstairs loo. We used to have cartoons

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 14/03/2021 10:46

Clearly not. I meant something so homemade

Remona · 14/03/2021 10:48

I like to think I’ve got a good sense of humour (don’t we all though) and I use the words fuck and cunt all the time, but would I want a gift with them embroidered on? Er, no.

I would be polite if I received such a gift, but to be honest I’d be rather disappointed and it would be shoved in a drawer never to see the light of day again.

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/03/2021 10:49

Please come back and tell us what she thinks!

Merename · 14/03/2021 10:51

Aw I love it!!

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 14/03/2021 10:52

I love it and would display it. Whereas my dm would not!

CandleWick4 · 14/03/2021 10:55

I think that’s great. I actually received something similar once from a friend. A swear we used all the time and she cross stitched it and put it in a little frame and I had it on show with pride Grin really made me laugh

KarensChoppyBob · 14/03/2021 10:58

I'm nowhere near a MIL but I would love that, it's a private joke and the word makes it less twee. Perfect 👌.

IPeedInThePool · 14/03/2021 11:07

Well it went down brilliant she loves it and it's proudly displayed with the mothers day cards......before the covid police come on she's our neighbour (yes we are that close haha) and she's in our "bubble"

The flowers are meant to be like wild flowers and the little g annoys me too but I can't for the life of me draw a fancy G so it was a little one and the exclamation is to hide the offcentreness it was a pain to get in the fabric hoop again

I think it's funny but it will totally depend on your MiL's sense of humour and whether she takes it as an insult somehow.

KarensChoppyBob · 14/03/2021 11:12

Brilliant OP, and happy Mother's Day to you. I think stitching it yourself really means something to most people too. Thanks

TidyDancer · 14/03/2021 11:18

I love it! And I'm glad your MIL did too!

Racoonworld · 14/03/2021 11:20

@LubaLuca

You know that she's going to like it, and went to the effort of making it, so just give it to her.

Personally, I'd prefer it without the exclamation mark. I can't really explain why.

Yes me too, and why is the G not a capital letter??

But as a gift, if you know she likes that sort of thing it’s fine.

LindaEllen · 14/03/2021 11:41

@Tangogolf55

Flowers are lovely but embroidering gibshute... hmmmm
What's a gibshute?
Dundustin · 14/03/2021 11:53

I'm glad she likes it. It would make me laugh.

littlepattilou · 14/03/2021 11:54

Not sure whether to press YABU or YANBU, but this is lovely @IPeedInThePool

I would be very happy to receive it!

bellinisurge · 14/03/2021 11:58

I would adore this

SenecaTrewe · 14/03/2021 12:00

That's a bit crass. But if you think she'll like it, fill your boots.

purplecorkheart · 14/03/2021 12:01

I don't know the lady in question but for that gift at best will end up in the back of the drawer for me and possible cause some secret hurt. It is a shame because without the vulgar word it is very pretty.

ohnomesandwiches · 14/03/2021 12:04

It's great. Downstairs toilet fodder.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 14/03/2021 12:11

I was initially unsure but then thought that if it said ‘fuckssake’ which is what I say all the time, I would absolutely love it and definitely display it. I’m glad she loved it.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 14/03/2021 12:12

In fact I might make one for myself!

I like it with lower case letters too.

Sarcobaleno · 14/03/2021 12:14

It's brilliant! It would be hung with pride in the downstairs loo if it was mine.

warmandtoasty2day · 14/03/2021 12:14

each to their own.
