To increase my prices?

I have recently started selling limited edition prints or my drawings on Etsy. So far going well - been doing it 8 weeks - average income £200 a week, sold about 9 a week.

I popped on here earlier this week (for some help with some retail advice as been approached by a local shop for them to sell them) and several people said I was undercharging. Several people IRL (not friends/family) have also said the same. So I need to try and gauge if I need to put my prices up. Often too low a price can be as off putting as too high a price.

I sell currently at
A5 - £15.00
A4 - £17.50
A3 - £25.00

Prints are Gilcee/Fine Art quality with certificate of authenticity.
Postage is included.

General consensus is I should raise prices to more like
A5 - £20
A4 - £25
A3 - £30

I have attached a couple of photos of the kind of stuff I do.

So, I know they won't be everyone's taste. But If you could pretend you did like them - or that they would be a perfect gift for your sister because she loves cows/hares/boxing- what would you be willing to pay?

First time at enabling voting.
YABU - keep your prices at £15.00 -£25.00 depending on size - I wouldn't pay more

YANBU increase to £20.00-£35.00 depending on size, I would pay this.

Any other pricing comments welcome.

Thank you

They are really lovely. I'd pay the price you proposed.

Thehawki · 13/03/2021 10:45

Thank you for the reply OP. You definitely have the skill to be selling these, so don’t sell yourself short.

Viviennemary · 13/03/2021 10:46

Your prints are selling very well. I'd give it a bit longer before you increase your prices.

Mango101 · 13/03/2021 10:46

Just keep increasing the prices until your overall monthly profit just begin to reduce. That's the sweet spot !

@Livinginlalaland21

Can I ask what might be a silly question to those in the know?

If you buy something like this off of Etsy can you just buy a frame from somewhere like The Range and pop it in that or does art need a different sort of frame? Thanks Blush

Am not totally in the know but from my experience it depends on the print (I would always wait til you get it before you order a frame) but generally yes. Just when you buy the frame make sure you get the apeture (hole) the size of the print - not the frame size. So if you have an A5 print - you will generally need an "A4 frame for A5 picture".

If you have an original you may need to spend a bit more than Range/Cheapest Amazon - mainly so that it is made from acid-free card (for the mount) and decent glass etc to preserve the quality of the artwork.

All of this thread has your stuff in their Etsy basket Grin

I just bought your Harry Hare and 4 people had it in their basket

I can't believe you've only been drawing since July. Wow your good.

What you tube videos do you recommend? And any advice? Can anyone learn to draw?

I guess it's practice, draw every day. Trouble is I'm a perfectionist and get easily put off, inner voice wins.

Sorry no advice on prices but I wish you the best off luck.

MyLittleOrangutan · 13/03/2021 10:50

Tbh I think your pricing is fair. The drawings are good, really good, but as far as framing and putting it up I think they're a bit plain. An exceptional artist I know sells his larger than A3 prints for £50, and I do think they're a much higher standard. Not saying yours aren't good, honestly, just comparing. There's a lot of whiteness in yours and it would put me off using them in most places, I'd use the animal ones in a nursery though I think but I wouldn't spend more than 25 quid.

BrookePalomoV · 13/03/2021 10:51

I just wanted to add that you have an excellent eye for colour. I’ve looked at your pictures of the buildings a few times as I feel really drawn to them.

oakleaffy · 13/03/2021 10:52

I paid £45 for unframed giclee prints a few years ago at Badminton..The quality was such that I thought they were watercolours, but the price made that absurd.

Etchings tend to be much more expensive as every one is unique and the Plate wears out after several pressings.

I didn't buy a Banksy screen print in 1997 for £35 as the price of framing was too dear.. {Skint at time} ...But the person who DID sold it for £25,000 a couple of years ago -

Livinginlalaland21 · 13/03/2021 10:53

Thank you for that info OP!

Thank you.

I started with a few easy things (lips/eyes) and then I tried a couple of step by step ones (chap called Lethal Chris if I remember correctly - an owl drawing and a panda drawing).

Then I found a lady called Kirsty Partridge - just her free "Dos and Don'ts" which were fab - as I think it probably prevented me making mistakes/bad habits which I then would have had to "unlearn".

And yes - practice, practice, practice. I have probably drawn on average nearly an hour (or more) every day since July.

Wow! So talented -

I used to sell on Etsy and I agree you are undercharging

Lol!

Way to go to get a load of free advertising 😂

Titsinknicks · 13/03/2021 10:59

How limited are your limited editions? If 10, you could charge £80 for an A3. If 500, less. Kind of matters how 'rare' the prints are.

MirandaWestsNewBFF · 13/03/2021 11:00

How long does each drawing take you? You need to be charging appropriately for your time, plus making a profit.

museumum · 13/03/2021 11:00

You’re very good.
I think your new prices are more appropriate.

But I think you should also sell a premium option at a higher price point including frame for those with cash to spend but no time to faff around finding frames. Buy a few suitable frames and mark up a decent % and accurate postage.

FuckyouBrennan · 13/03/2021 11:01

Your work is incredible, I’m off to find your Etsy store as my DF would love the boxing gloves.

Titsinknicks · 13/03/2021 11:02

The charges you currently have should be for unlimited runs. I would distinguish between print runs and therefore promote the 'specialness' of smaller runs to put the prices up. I've spent £100+ of limited print runs of say 150 prints but by established artists.

TiredMummyZZZ · 13/03/2021 11:02

These are great! I’d love to find you on Etsy, what’s your shop name on there?

EduardoStobarto · 13/03/2021 11:02

Just googled that and it seems a lot of outlay but the quality is good, I'd be too paranoid they wouldn't sell!!

bumbleymummy · 13/03/2021 11:04

These are beautiful. You definitely need to increase your prices. :)

ButterflyWitch · 13/03/2021 11:04

Your prices are definitely lower than others - although I think their quality is better. You should compare your giraffe pic to Sophie Green's, for example. They are almost mirror images of each other Hmm www.artistsandillustrators.co.uk/sophiestrails/artwork/104879

Seatime · 13/03/2021 11:05

New prices seem OK for a digital print of a popular subject., What's the market doing? Would you consider making more original works, put your story in there, it could be amazing, also would you do an art degree, you have the natural ability! Good luck
