Will everyone on tax credits receive this? heard a little about it in the news but I don't understand it

Would this be for people who get CTC and WTC but did NOT get the £20 uplift ?

I get both CTC and WTC but I didn’t get the £20 uplift .

Sorry if it’s already been asked but after losing my job and DH cutting hours this would be very welcome to us. I don’t want to get my hopes up .

@HugeAckmansWife

I'm really confused. I get £66 a month wtc. Single parent on 30k ish. Work full time. I didn't get wtc for a couple of years and then I suddenly did.. I assumed they changed the earning limit or something. I always live in slight fear they'll ask for it back. I shall just sit tight and wait and see I guess!
Last April the threshold was changed. So that maybe why you received it. They are putting the threshold back and giving a £500 one off payment.

Those on UC get the higher threshold remaining for 6 months.

Think it's because TC is worked out as average of year and UC is done based on each month?

YerAWizardHarry · 13/03/2021 10:25

@LadyLavae everyone got the £20 uplift on WTC. It might have been that your award reduced slightly at the new tax year and you didn’t ‘see’ it. You will get the £500.

HugeAckmansWife · 13/03/2021 10:35

it's getting weird thank you, and to others who've clarified. I guess its just so unusual to find there is a genuine good thing with no 'oh but..' attached!

KingstonTownThePlaceILongToBe · 13/03/2021 10:40

@Hwory I'm glad to hear this as I was worried, I assumed they would be giving it with one hand and taking it with the other.

How are you sure that it won't affect housing benefit?

Hwory · 13/03/2021 10:52

@KingstonTownThePlaceILongToBe

I'm a hb officer. DWP informed us of the decision this week.

KingstonTownThePlaceILongToBe · 13/03/2021 10:54

@Hwory that's brilliant, thank you.

I just got a text from hmrc. But it’s just telling me about the £500, doesn’t actually say in the text “your entitled to this, we’re giving it to you”

So am I entitled? If you get the text does that mean your getting the £500 or is it a general text being sent to everyone?

Be careful, may be a scam?

Only thing is most that don't receive working tax because of income being over the amount don't receive anything from child tax either and get an annual reward notice showing 0 for both. No doubt this will be a 0 too.

ForeverBubblegum · 02/04/2021 07:32

I got that message, it came from the same number they send the coad to log onto the website portal, so probably legit. Plus it doesn't ask for anything, just tells you its automatically paid and you don't need to do anything. I assumed they sent the text out to stop the helpline getting clogged up by people asking about it (more clogged up then it usually is)

Roseyposey1 · 15/04/2021 18:33

Hi!

I just had £500 arrive in my bank account with the reference hmrc c19 support. I don’t get working tax credits and our child tax credits reduced recently. Im scared to spend it as I wasn’t expecting it but it’s very welcome if it’s legit! Does it sound like a mistake?

EveLe · 15/04/2021 18:44

@Roseyposey1 There’s another thread about this payment somewhere, that was posted when people started getting text messages about the £500 - it might be worth you searching for that.

There was a poster on there who previously worked for HMRC I think, and they said something about most people who get ctc are entitled to etc too, but it’s the first thing that gets removed when the income reduction gets done, so lots of people end up with a £0 award for it, but that would still entitle you to the £500 payment.

Hope that makes sense! It’s explained better on the thread!

Roseyposey1 · 15/04/2021 18:47

EveLe thanks so much! I’ll have a look through the thread but from what you’ve said I should be entitled which is a relief!

EveLe · 15/04/2021 18:51

@Roseyposey1 No problem, I wasn’t sure either but there’s a really helpful poster on that thread who explained it.

corlan · 15/04/2021 18:52

Roseyposey1 I've just got the same. Like you, I get child tax credit but not working tax credit. It must be legit - I'm thrilled!!

Roseyposey1 · 15/04/2021 19:23

Corlan - so am I! I hadn’t heard of any of this so it’s a lovely surprise :)

Isaidnope · 15/04/2021 19:29

It’s for people who either get WTC, WTC and CTC or only get CTC but one or both of you would qualify for WTC but earn too much. I’m hoping mine goes in tomorrow, they processed the payments yesterday so can’t see why it wouldn’t be in tomorrow.

OohKittens · 15/04/2021 22:11

I received the text on April 1st and the payment just showed in my account.

Allthatechoes · 15/04/2021 22:32

Our situation is that we were receiving CTC on 2nd March (think that’s the date they said you needed to be receiving it in order to qualify?) we earned too much to get WTC so our award for that was £0.

But we’ve just had our payments stop due to a change in children’s circumstances (eldest left education) and because the claim is now for two DC instead of three our income last tax year is over the threshold for us to qualify for any payments this year.

We did get the text but that was just before our circumstances changed.
Does anyone know if that means we won’t get the £500 now?

Crabbypaddy · 16/04/2021 02:20

Rbs mines is in also Grin

Crabbypaddy · 16/04/2021 02:21

@Allthatechoes if you’re circumstances were still the same and u were still entitled to tax credit payments on the 2nd March I think u will be entitled to the £500 payment.

Allthatechoes · 16/04/2021 05:15

@Crabbypaddy thank you.

The thing I’m worried about is if they give us the £500 but we’re not due any payments this year, then will we have to pay it back? I’d be scared to spend it lol
