Will everyone on tax credits receive this? heard a little about it in the news but I don't understand it

People that only receive tax credits won't receive it, it has to be working tax credits. So you have to be working. If you earn too much so you don't receive any WTC you still might receive the £500 as your earnings might push you just slightly over the threshold.

MondeoFan · 12/03/2021 23:07

@SansaClegane how many hours do you work?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/03/2021 06:17

I don't even think I got the £20 boost, or if I did I didn't notice it? Did everyone on legacy benefits get it? My tax credits are decreasing from April but only by £10 a week and I think that's because I increased my hours at work last year.

Alwaysandforeverhere · 13/03/2021 06:42

I thought only those on Uc got the £20?

May17th · 13/03/2021 06:55

@Alwaysandforeverhere it’s both UC and people on WTC. It depends on how much you earn. If you got the extra £20 a week you should get the £500 lump some if your on the old system. Or you will continue to get the extra £20 a week until September on UC.

earlydoors42 · 13/03/2021 07:28

I thought the reason Tax Credit people are getting the £500 is because they didn't get the £20 uplift - only UC people did and still to do.

Itsnotyouitsmeiswear · 13/03/2021 08:04

No, last time UC got a lump some and tax credits got £20 pw. For the remaining 6 months it’s the other way around. You are 100% eligible if you were receiving WORKING tax credits on the 2nd March.

Itsnotyouitsmeiswear · 13/03/2021 08:05

Sum*

GravityFalls · 13/03/2021 08:10

I get tax credits as a single parent with a fairly high income because I have high childcare outgoings. On my award it shows an eligibility for WTC that gets wiped out because of my income. Does that mean I’ll qualify for this? Fantastic news if so, schools going back has meant going back to my massive wraparound childcare bill 😭

HugeAckmansWife · 13/03/2021 08:17

I'm really confused. I get £66 a month wtc. Single parent on 30k ish. Work full time. I didn't get wtc for a couple of years and then I suddenly did.. I assumed they changed the earning limit or something. I always live in slight fear they'll ask for it back. I shall just sit tight and wait and see I guess!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 13/03/2021 08:17

We should definitley qualify for this, doesn't show on my account yet but i believe its due to be paid before April 23rd

YerAWizardHarry · 13/03/2021 08:21

If you work more than 16hrs as a single parent OR one member of a couple works at least 24 hours and you receive any sort of payment from tax credits YOU WILL RECEIVE THE £500.

wendz86 · 13/03/2021 08:22

Interesting. I am a single parent and work 28 hours a week. I get a small amount of child tax credit but not working tax credits. Sounds like i could potentially get it though?

YerAWizardHarry · 13/03/2021 08:22

It also has been confirmed it won’t show on apps/accounts but that it’ll be paid by April 23rd

YerAWizardHarry · 13/03/2021 08:22

@wendz86 you’re entitled yes

YerAWizardHarry · 13/03/2021 08:23

@Itsnotyouitsmeiswear UC never got a lump sum they’ve always got £20 a week which is continuing until September

megletsecond · 13/03/2021 08:27

Mine is going towards a new fence. Helping the local economy.

MoriParty · 13/03/2021 08:33

I don't why everyone is getting excited, if you also claim housing benefit or LHA this will be reduced the minute that payment goes in then you'll have to fight for it back, happened to me when I got a one off bonus from work, took me 3 months of phonecalls/emails to have it reinstated.

YerAWizardHarry · 13/03/2021 08:38

@MoriParty lots of people on tax credits don’t get housing benefit though

EvilOnion · 13/03/2021 08:41

@MoriParty that's the problem with these bonus payments - I work in care and due to receive a payment for our efforts, colleagues on UC have had to ask for the payment to be spread over 3 months so it doesn't just get swallowed up by the deductions.

However, I am excited about this potential payment as we have both worked throughout and our (low) income just puts us over the TC threshold so it would be nice to get something extra to put in the savings for a family treat and I can afford to get myself some nice glasses for once!

MoriParty · 13/03/2021 08:41

@MoriParty lots of people on tax credits don’t get housing benefit though

No shit. Probably why I said if you also claim HB.

Thehop · 13/03/2021 08:48

@TheGumption us too. It’s mega shit.

Hwory · 13/03/2021 08:53

The £500 wtx payment won't effect housing benefit / any other benefits. Which is why they aren't putting the payment on the app.

Bonus' from work come under a different rule.

MoriParty · 13/03/2021 09:02

Hwory that's good to know.

YerAWizardHarry · 13/03/2021 09:07

@MoriParty hence why some people are excited?? I earned £6000 last year and I’m not entitled to housing benefit you bet your arse I’m excited for an extra £500 it’s literally an extra months wages for me
