Nappies should be available to buy as small sample packs

So DS has just outgrown his current nappy size and our usual brand has discontinued from the next size up cries
So begins the search for a new nappy
Why do I have to purchase 30-50 socks of each to try one bloody nappy on for size?!!!
I mean it's such a waste. I give away the ones I don't use but even so
AIBU to think nappy companies should sell sample packs of a few nappies?

I hear you! It would be very handy wouldn’t it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/03/2021 17:49

You are so right. We got some nappy pants from co op that have turned out to be worse than useless but I hate waste and haven’t chucked them out yet.

Bigmomma164 · 12/03/2021 17:51

It's so frustrating
We went through this when DS was newborn
And we settled on Mamia Premium since he was tiny - happy days
Now bloody Aldi have decided to discontinue them so the search begins again
And the nappy leaks and washing until I find the right nappy again urgh

Highly recommend sainsburys nappies . I've tried and tested them all . Sainsburys are by far the best

1hamwich4 · 12/03/2021 23:04

Why stop at nappies? I’d love it if you could buy sample palettes of makeup to experiment with new colours and combinations. I’d probably buy loads more makeup if I could have a fiddle with tiny amounts first...

UnderHisAye · 12/03/2021 23:05

I'm sure you'll get the nappy brands to agree to that one Grin

SnackSizeRaisin · 12/03/2021 23:12

They all have the size on them don't they? I don't really find any difference in size or performance between aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury's or pampers.

I’ve never had a problem 🤷‍♀️

Bigmomma164 · 16/03/2021 14:50

@Lpid2014 thanks for the recommendation. I've bought a pack from Asda and one from Sainsbury's. Good to know at least one is good
@SnackSizeRaisin I notice a huge difference. My LO is long and slim so weight ranges don't work well. Have to try em on and see. Ends up with loose cuffs around the legs and then leaks +++

@Level32

Cloth nappies tend to have poppers so you can play around with the size to get a good fit.

I'm sure they do but you've still got to rinse the shite off them.
stackemhigh · 16/03/2021 15:09

It's not that easy to create a new product, sell it into to supermarkets/shops, keep packaging/branding updated etc. It needs to pay its way and I doubt this would.

ZombeaArthur · 16/03/2021 15:09

My kids were small but heavy, so the weight range meant nothing to us. We tried a few different brands when they were going through particularly leaky phases, fortunately Asda nappies were usually fine for us.

Trytowin20 · 16/03/2021 15:20

I like the asda little angels. I use mamia premium but I was pleased with a size 2 little angels as Aldi is further out for us. We're in size 3 mamia premium at the moment.

Bigmomma164 · 16/03/2021 15:23

@Trytowin20 we are using Mamia premium 3 at present. Gutted they discontinued any bigger sizes. Have 2 spare size 4 packs then I have to find another brand. Mamia premium are amazing quality. Way ahead of pampers. Not tried Asda yet but am being forced to so hoping they live upto recommendations

Definitely recommend Asda's nappies! I used Pampers when they were tiny, then tried all brands but Asda have been best

Parkandride · 16/03/2021 15:41

If you want a boring answer why not, every product on shelf is a giant PITA, extra to be set up, ordered, process complaints for, update packaging for etc. Factories love long production runs due to less downtime so every extra product that splits sales adds costs. So you're adding business complexity for a 1 time purchase as you'll either go with a competitor or like the product and buy a bigger pack next time. Nappies are also not profitable, though winning over parents and getting their weekly shop money is hence the low prices compared to brands.

Trytowin20 · 16/03/2021 15:54

@Bigmomma164 weird I noticed not so many nappies in Aldi but thought it was just stock issues. Sadly I only stocked up to 3. The size 2 little angels had the Eleatic back same as the Aldi but not tried bigger yet. My eldest went to nappy pants size 4 ish. She has Pampers premium (purple) and little angels nappy pants

WoolieLiberal · 16/03/2021 17:46

I think if you email the manufacturers of each they will send you a couple of samples of each of two sizes so you can check the best fit.

I feel your pain we used the premium ones and they were excellent, no leaks and no explosions. I'm on my last packet now so I'm following in equal desperation to find something just as good.
Skigal86 · 16/03/2021 17:59

The weight range on supermarket brands is completely different to pampers in case you didn’t already know, I found that out the hard way! My child is an awkward shape and after 18 months of Tesco and aldi nappies they now don’t fit right and leak everywhere and so we had to move to pampers, she’s costing me a bloody fortune! Grin

Bigmomma164 · 16/03/2021 18:05

@Skigal86 I wouldn't mind the cost of Pampers so much if they bloody did their job. Whenever I've tried pampers I've ended up with leaks or damp vests as the wee seeps through
