To not like botox

Vanillacupcakeyummy · 10/03/2021 11:38

Just that really. I had gotten it for a few years with a few different practioners but it just never suited me. It just made my face look weird no matter how little I had done. I think I put pressure on myself to get it when i know so many people i knew were having it which is silly. AIBU for not liking something that's so popular otherwise?

How old are you OP? I’m thinking of having it done, just hit 40, no wrinkles yet so mainly hoping it’ll prevent any developing.

Vanillacupcakeyummy · 10/03/2021 11:42

@Changeychange1 I'm 38 but I actually started getting it at 26

Well of course you're not unreasonable for liking something regardless of how popular it is.

You are unreasonable for getting it anyway

DrSbaitso · 10/03/2021 11:45

If it didn't work for you or you didn't like it, of course that's not unreasonable.

It's excellent for me.

Sunhoop · 10/03/2021 11:45

I had it done in early January, it was done really well. I haven't told anyone and no one has noticed - not even my eagle eyed husband! I was happy with the results but it seems to be wearing off already?! I thought I'd get longer than two bloody months out of it Confused

How the hell is she unreasonable for getting it? Just because you may disagree with it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
NuniaBeeswax · 10/03/2021 11:48

You're allowed to not like things.

Oh, it's just the MN classic of assigning moral values to things that don't have any. Pay it no mind. I may well be going straight to hell as an awful human being but it won't be because I have a minor cosmetic procedure once a year that costs less than highlights every two months would in the same period. Not that there's anything wrong with that either.

There'll also be loads of remarks about how shit it looks, how EVERYONE can tell, how it freezes your face and generally how much prettier and better they are for not doing it. Par for the course.

No problem at all with not liking it, OP; I wouldn't get it if I didn't like it.

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/03/2021 12:00

I used Botox a few times in my early thirties but was then continuously pregnant and/or breast feeding for a good six years so stopped using it and didn’t go back. I have terrible crows feet which would have probably been helped by continuing its use but then I hear stories of continuous Botox being really bad for the muscle of time and there being knock on negative effects. I have no idea!

All I will say about those who have a lot of it is their face develops odd wrinkles elsewhere, like the side of the nose as the face just crinkles differently and those who have bad Botox end up with Jack Nicholson eyebrows. That’s all I’ve noticed anecdotally.

Tehmina23 · 10/03/2021 12:19

Im 44 & don't have Botox, nor do my best mates but some colleagues do. In most of them it's not especially noticeable but a couple have too much.

I think it's down to the individual. I don't need it but In the future I might, if I could afford it!!
I'm not so bothered about getting lines as i am worried about getting jowls. I'm not sure if it's Botox or fillers that stop jowls?

i've got 3 stone to lose which will make a difference to how my face looks now, especially my chin area, hopefully it will look less 'puffy' & more defined.
I will try to lose the weight slowly so I don't get too lined. I'm only going down to 10 stone anyway so shouldn't look gaunt.

Pukkatea · 10/03/2021 13:14

I think PP meant it is a bit silly to continue getting botox for 12 years if you haven't ever liked how it looks, not making a judgement on botox in general.

Orangebitters · 10/03/2021 13:32

I’ve had it done and it looked awful- I’ve also had it done and it looked great. Huge difference between practitioners & the amounts they use, & even the areas they use it (I look super weird when it’s put between my eyebrows.) do your practitioners take before and after photos? If you have a bunch of these from the past, go to someone new & explain exactly what you don’t like. If they’re good they should be able to sort it out.

YABVU
Botox is fab.

Thebig3 · 10/03/2021 14:30

I had it for the first time in Oct, I loved it. I am booked to get it done again as soon as everything opens!

2ndAugust · 10/03/2021 14:54

Same here. Had it twice and although it eased wrinkles it also took something away from me and I felt like I looked weird. No one else thought so but I did. 8 years on and I don’t look much different so I’m glad I didn’t keep wasting thousands on it. I am thinking of having a thread brow lift though!

Shnuffles · 10/03/2021 14:57

No-one should have cosmetic work or injections if they don't want to, just as no-one should feel they must dye their hair simply because others do.

I don't think I'd be interested in ever using botox. The women in my family have a tradition of aging naturally, and I'd like to follow in their footsteps. I'd like to care less and less about my appearance, the older I get, and botox doesn't fit in with that attitude. And tbh, there are so many other things I'd rather do with the money!

ShrikeAttack · 10/03/2021 15:01

I'm pretty sure it's not compulsory, so it's absolutely fine not to like it.

I've managed to get to nearly 50 without and have no plans to, I like my face!

However, no judgement from me towards those that like it, different strokes and all that.

BobRossPaints · 10/03/2021 15:03

It doesn't suit me either. It makes my eyes look funny and makes my brows very heavy. I've been to a few people but have given up now. I'm going for the natural look!!

Markies · 10/03/2021 15:38

I had it a few weeks ago and honestly it’s one the most amazing things I’ve ever had done. I’ve had it before but this doctor was incredible - previously I’ve barely noticed a difference.

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/03/2021 15:48

I would definitely have it done if I had eleven frown lines. That’s for sure. My issue Botox won’t help with irritatingly and filler is just SO expensive.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 10/03/2021 15:48

If the clinician is good then you should get the result you want.Mine is brilliant it never looks overdone and my browser don't drop but nor do they look too high.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 10/03/2021 15:48

Brows!

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 10/03/2021 15:52

I had it 2 years ago and at the time I felt like I liked it, but now that it’s worn off and I look back at photos I feel I look a bit odd. So I’m not sure I’d have it done again. I think in my case I’ve got quite expressive eyebrows and not being able to move them as much as usual made me look not quite myself.

fairycakes1234 · 10/03/2021 15:56

well i love it, have got it done lots of times since my early 40s, i love the way i look with it, could be in my head though because noone noticed (or pretended they did) but my husband and famiy definately didnt because they dont hold back, i get it mainly for a couple of lines between my eyebrows but never got forehead done so maybe thats the trick.

pepeleputois · 10/03/2021 16:00

Are you always so insecure? I don't mean about the botox, I mean about not following every single fashionable trend.

You like botox, have it, you don't.. then just do nothing? Confused
How is that even a question?

I hate grey decor, sparkly carpets and "feature walls". Who gives a rat's ass if they are popular? You are allowed to have a personality, opinion and your own taste.

It affects absolutely no one if you have or haven't got botox injections.
