Do you regret buying it? I know houses are all different but just trying to get a feel for how high maintenance they are.

And if you do regret it, what sort of house would you go for next time?

TIA

Used to live in one but like most Victorian terraces round here it was a back to back so very small and not draughty as surrounded on three sides. The ceilings were nice and high for a small house though.

There are clearly lots of different types of victorian terraces!! To anyone reading this thread, they are NOT all so glorious.

Mine is extremely cold and draughty. The walls crumble to pieces if you remove wallpaper. There is damp. The rooms are tiny. The roof is full of holes. Yard is overlooked in all sides and any furniture has to get through the tiny hallway.

Mine didn't look like anything needed doing when I bought it, but it was after living in it a while that all the problems came to light.

Some terraces are money pits!!!

Oh and yes, you do hear noises from neighbours...I'm lucky that mine are fairly quiet, but I still hear the dog barking and the TV and vacuums and furniture being moved.

On a side note I stupidly ordered a 3 seater and 2 seater version of these sofas a few weeks ago (they were in the sale and I can store them until we move), and now I’m panicking as I can’t for the life of me think how to style them! Any suggestions?

Yes totally regret it. It’s beautiful but for all the reasons mentioned above - horrible layout, tiny hallway, feels dark, damp, wonky etc etc I would never buy one again. Am hoping to sell ours at the end of the year.

Sorry just saw your update! Can advise on the cost of the loft extension though...£40k for an extension with a dormer, to a plaster finish. Probably £50k all in when we had done everything. It has a bathroom and one bedroom.

Haha, don’t worry! I kept my eyes peeled for these issues when viewing. The house has had a lot of modernisation over the years so luckily I think we’ve dodged some of them. It’s got a very modern electric fire so hoping it won’t cost the Earth to heat!
