Has anyone experienced it?
I’m currently sending my head backwards and forwards because I thought “Vimto” was “Vimpto”

Growing up we had a Nestlé factory in my home town where loads of people worked and it was always pronounced Nessles.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/03/2021 21:37

“This looks blue”
Not as “blue” as Id be looking paying £150.00 for bag of crisps 🤣🤣

HiyaMeAgain · 08/03/2021 21:38

I am convinced my dad had a "stripagram" for his 40th birthday (back in the 80s) he has an early January birthday, we had a massive family NYE party every year and his siblings had arranged the stripogram I remember it like it was yesterday, I even remember what she was wearing, what club hall we had hired out, and the fact my mum had a bit of a falling out with the siblings because she didn't agree with it all with young kids being there.
Apparently...never happened. No stripogram, no falling out, nothing.
I know this isn't a "mandala effect" but how can something so vivid in my mind, not happen?

Catford · 08/03/2021 21:39

Yes it did used to be pronounced like that.

LouiseTrees · 08/03/2021 22:28

@HarrietSchulenberg

I was one of the many people who swore salt n vinegar crisp packets swapped colours with cheese n onion. Apparently they didn't.
They did but only for one brand of crisps
boltfromtheblueblue · 09/03/2021 08:56

They did but only for one brand of crisps

No, they didn't. You think one brand swapped around, but they never did. Literally the point!

user1480870781 · 09/03/2021 17:27

When growing up in the south of England we only had Golden Wonder crisps. The blue bags were salt & vinegar and the green, cheese & onion. We only started being able to buy Walkers Crisps in the ‘80’s and their bag colours were the opposite way around.

People often get cross about Johnny Cash who they insist served time in prison. He didn't, except to sing.

MummyPinaColada · 09/03/2021 17:29

Salt and vinegar definitely used to be blue!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHaands · 09/03/2021 17:36

Anyone heard of.. or worse, remember, a children's tv show called Candle Cove in the 70s? Try Googling that one .....

PixellatedPixie · 09/03/2021 17:40

This has fascinated me for the years! The one that always gets me is that I clearly remember learning that the USA had 52 states but it has always been 50!

Dinkydody · 09/03/2021 17:44

Your actually correct, salt and vinegar used to be blue and cheese and onion green.... true story 😃

PixellatedPixie · 09/03/2021 17:49

I didn’t ever learn about how many states there were from school as I grew up in South Africa and that was never part of the curriculum so it wasn’t incorrectly taught. I learnt most of what I know from the huge number of books we had at home including World Book Encyclopaedias and those were actually American so how did I get it so wrong?

LApprentiSorcier · 09/03/2021 17:49

Nestle used to be "Nessels" in the adverts and here is evidence:

LApprentiSorcier · 09/03/2021 17:54

@AStrangerToHerself

I was also really confused when Johnny Briggs died recently as I remember him dying a few years ago.
You couldn't possibly be remembering the death of his famous screen character, Mike Baldwin?

At the time the Mike 'died', there were 'obituaries' for the character recounting his most memorable Coronation Street moments such as his affair with Deirdre - I've seen very similar photos and memories in Johnny Briggs' obituaries.

Testament to the effective branding, wasn't it?

(I love Johnny Cash)

Hertsgirl10 · 09/03/2021 17:57

👀 really..?

Anon778833 · 09/03/2021 18:01

People say that Walkers salt and vinegar used to be blue and changed in the 90s.

I can categorically say that this was NOT the case. I remember salt & vinegar being green in 1985. I remember the green packet and the clear window, through which you could see the crisps.

Whatamesshasdinner · 09/03/2021 18:01

Whatshisname in Casablanca didn’t say ‘play it again Sam’.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 09/03/2021 18:08

Febreze is another one.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 09/03/2021 18:12

@Dinkydody

Wrong.

Golden Wonder have salt and vinegar in blue packets, and always have.
Walkers have salt and vinegar in green packets, and always have.

Walkers overtook Golden Wonder as the most popular crisps on the market so people misremember it.

JustAGirlFromHoe · 09/03/2021 18:12

@freddiesmoustache

One of my favourites is St John's Ambulance.

Apparently it's not. It has always been St John Ambulance. Weird.

So bloody weird, I realised this yesterday when I had to call them! I’ve been saying St John’s Ambulance forever and a day.
Dinkydody · 09/03/2021 18:19

That’s where I saw it 🤦‍♀️ Thanks 🤩

Cccc1111 · 09/03/2021 18:20

I’ve got a random memory of the news, when Mandela was released, that the news reporters got the wrong time he was due to be released. Cut to it, and an “At any time now” repeated a few times, followed by a long an awkward slice. And them having to go back to the live recording quite abit later. But I don’t know if I imagined that bit, I was quite young at the time.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 09/03/2021 18:22

As an aside, this thread is the reason why I've just added Golden Wonder crisps to my food shop Grin
