I walked out on my job tonight!

Literally that. I can't believe it really. Half way through my shift I literally walked out. Phoned my supervisor to explain why. I was so angry at my colleagues I just couldn't stay so I walked out. Phoned my supervisor driving home and explained everything. She said she'd speak to my colleagues and call me on Monday. But as far as I'm concerned now, especially after tonight, I can't go back. I can't work with them anymore. Especially after bloody walking out and complaining to our supervisor about them. If I go back, it'll just be ten times worse. I can't. But I need a job. Can't get my head around it.

@MegaMoon

A recruitment agency contacted me today, they want to put my details forward for a job that I have six years experience in, (the exact same role), it's a good wage (24k basic plus bonus, I've never earned that much before), but long hours and a long commute sadly. 40 mile round trip. 45 minutes each way. Out of the house 7 until 7. I just don't think I could manage that with my mental health.
And the company doesn't have the best rep either.

Op be wary of your MH if this job is so far away and such long hours. Work out the total hours plus the commute time then you will have a clearer idea of the time vs money back!! Don't jump at the first thing

MacbookHoHoHo · 07/03/2021 13:50

Tell the recruiter that you love the sound of the job but can’t do a long-ass commute at the moment, but would love to be considered for a similar job nearer your house.

Or see it as a Sign to look for that job near your house.

and a million other people will be applying for the NHS admin job

😂 This is a pointless comment. (Unless the point was to make you feel bad?) Of bourse good jobs get loads of applicants, but one of them will still get chosen. Let’s face it, our chances of reaching the egg first when we were just one in tens of billions of sperm tadpoles being released simultaneously were pretty small, but we all made it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/03/2021 13:57

So, whilst that one isn't right for you, it seems there are other opportunities out there. 😊

MegaMoon · 08/03/2021 13:29

Good news. The company have been great. They've moved me to another site so I don't have to see those colleagues again. It's more hours too so more money. I think I might still apply for the NHS job and some other vacancies I've seen but for now this is great and means I won't loose my income.

That's a great outcome!

Good luck with the job hunting too.

flapjackfairy · 08/03/2021 13:32

Oh that's great news. Good result all round

boltfromtheblueblue · 08/03/2021 13:34

OP I've a lot of sympathy for you working in a difficult situation - but this wasn't the right way & was really unprofessional.

Is it professional or OK for OP to have to work unpaid overtime because other staff are lazy? Or for any reason? No, it isn't.

Warmhandscoldheart · 08/03/2021 13:37

👏🏻👏🏻 enjoy your new job

RonSwansonsChair · 08/03/2021 13:59

Great news @MegaMoon, delighted to hear that.

LazyDaisy22 · 08/03/2021 14:06

That’s wonderful news OP. They obviously value you and want to keep you. Enjoy your new job!

Number3BigCupOfTea · 08/03/2021 14:09

Good news op!

MacbookHoHoHo · 08/03/2021 14:18

Wahoooo!!!! Good for you.

ZorbaTheHoarder · 08/03/2021 14:22

Glad things have worked out well for you, OP!

Oblomov21 · 08/03/2021 14:31

I think you may be looking at this all wrong. You should have highlighted all these issues to your boss from the start. You are paid to be a manager, so manage. It takes months and months of team meetings and one-2-ones to whip a team into shape and get them working the way you want, get things working the way you want.

Only if your boss and management are unsupportive, then the job isn't worth it.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 08/03/2021 14:52

excellent.
i hope it is better run op

billy1966 · 08/03/2021 14:54

Delighted for you OP.
Well done.

Hurrah!

AnotherKrampus · 08/03/2021 15:00

Brilliant update OP. As for some poster a few pages back who mentioned that those colleagues might be older and struggling with their job. That is not a reasonable excuse to slack and cause the OP to work longer and do unpaid overtime.

Indoctro · 08/03/2021 15:03

I read the OP and skipped to update I was thinking to myself , they need to hold onto you and get shot of the time wasters

They clearly realise you are a asset to them I'm glad they have sorted something and you aren't out of work

Sometimes it pays to stand your ground and not treated at a doormat

My husband did something similar in a job refused to go back and be treated like crap. Best thing he ever did. Ended up paying off and company moved him to bigger and better things

Congratulations

NotFabulousDarling · 08/03/2021 15:05

That's fantastic news. Really shows they value you and want to keep you on as a good employee. Good luck in the new location!

That’s a great result, OP! Flowers

UhtredRagnarson · 08/03/2021 15:14

Glad you’ve had a good outcome OP.

I was going to post that if you couldn’t find work you could set up as a SE cleaner. I did when my youngest was a toddler and it was the best thing I ever did.
