To ask if anyone is now considering home education full time?

I know most people can't wait for their children to return to school on Monday. However, is anyone now considering (all already decided) full time home education?

I have loved teaching my primary school aged children and they have enjoyed it too. I will send them back to school on Monday as I'm not brave enough to make a commitment to it yet, but may consider starting in September. Anyone else?

I can never home school my child full time. She thrives on interaction with her peers and also her teachers. I also think school gives more than just education so won’t consider it really

santabetterwashhishands · 05/03/2021 19:24

I've quite enjoyed teaching my infant age child and she has benefited from the one to one teaching but it hasn't been difficult because school have provided all the work!
It wouldn't be as enjoyable if I was having to provide the work and ensure she covered all the things needed.

God no.

To quote something I saw in FB this morning.....

KindergartenKop · 05/03/2021 19:26

Noooooooooooooo

SittingAround1 · 05/03/2021 19:27

No way! Mine refused to learn anything from me because 'you're not a teacher mummy'. It had to be self explanatory worksheets.

LIamaDelRey · 05/03/2021 19:27

Hell no. I supervise other people's kids and they are still a 1000x easier than my own gremlins.

MrBullinaChinaShop · 05/03/2021 19:29

No.
I have quite enjoyed home schooling in some respects. Academically they’ve done well at home. But I have a job, and they thrive on interaction with their peers.

LIamaDelRey · 05/03/2021 19:29

sitting you could be a teacher and still not be their teacher, them there's the breaks Wine ]flowers]

SittingAround1 · 05/03/2021 19:29

They'd also end up overweight as they kept complaining they were hungry ALL DAY

LIamaDelRey · 05/03/2021 19:30

Flowers dammit

Dontstepinthecowpat · 05/03/2021 19:32

@EdersonsSmileyTattoo I came on to post the same. That made me laugh for ages yesterday!

WhisperingJesse · 05/03/2021 19:33

Oh please. Normal home education is SO different than the home schooling everyone's been doing this past year. Night and day. It takes a while but you would get into a very different rhythm if done full time. You can follow the child's interests instead of the curriculum. No need for coercion in order to 'keep up'.

I'm not trying to persuade anyone who doesn't want to do it, but don't reject it on the grounds that you've given it a try. You really haven't.

WomenAreBornNotWorn · 05/03/2021 19:33

We homeschool anyway. It's been hard without the 1000+ activities we do every week.

Unanananana · 05/03/2021 19:33

I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than homeschool my kids. Teachers are way better at it and my DCs need the interaction.

CruisingBob · 05/03/2021 19:33

No, even my slightly loner child has missed the casual interactions of kids outside her friendship group.

grannyinapram · 05/03/2021 19:34

I am sad that they are going back. I have half enjoyed it and half hated it. I certainly won't worry about them having the day off on a snow day or to go on a day out from now on.
Its shown me that school isn't as crucial as I was lead to believe. I have children. I don't have tiny adults. I think the work load was bull

Jamboree01 · 05/03/2021 19:34

🤣🤣🤣🤣 was just going to post that 😂😂 my sentiments exactly 😂😂

switswoo81 · 05/03/2021 19:37

No way. We went back last Monday and to see the kids running, chasing and playing tag happily in the yard is a balm for the soul. My own DD is in my school and she was like a different child out there .
Not that homeschooling is not a viable option for some.

crazyontheweekend · 05/03/2021 19:37

I home educate my 3 dc. Have done for a few years. We love it. We have so much freedom and fun and they love learning.

BUT we have gone a bit mad during lockdown as we’ve not been able to socialise as normal. We miss our groups and clubs so much. We’re really excited they are starting again next week. The dc are really missing their friends and need to get back out into the world!

So my advice to you if you’re thinking of doing it is join your local FB home Ed group and find out about as many classes etc as possible. Try them all out and see which ones your dc like. Children need their friends and to socialize with others.

Same...except I AM a teacher...at the school they go to!
sapnupuas · 05/03/2021 19:40

FUCK NO!

trilbydoll · 05/03/2021 19:40

I didn't mind it so much with the teachers doing all the heavy lifting. I found last year really difficult because I just couldn't think of stuff to do and how to explain stuff. I'd only consider it if there was a service where a teacher did all your lesson planning and all I had to do was actually make them do it!

BrumBoo · 05/03/2021 19:41

I would very happily home school my eldest. His school will not keep to his level academically, not even a compromise. He has vast interests and learning with him is actually fun. However, he needs the social aspect of school, and I need other placements to recognise his ASD traits (which is more difficult to adequately explain to the pediatrician based on my view alone). For the moment, school is probably for the best. I'm keeping my options open though.

Waveifyouknowme · 05/03/2021 19:43

Mine are senior school. If home schooling could continue as it is (ie the teachers do all the hard work of lesson planning/marking/zoom lessons) then we would love to continue. They get plenty of socialising outside of school (well outside of lockdown) and have loved being home and working harder than ever.
