In not wanting a tree house overlooking my garden

NC as could be outing! One of my neighbour's has a garden that backs on to the bottom of my garden. No problem with that of course and there's a fence for privacy. They have decided to build an 8 foot structure though, so their children can access the tree to 'hang out' in the very broad branches. It now feels like an observation tower as the tree is right on the boundary so looks over my whole garden and into my kitchen and childrens' bedrooms. WIBU to ask them to remove the platform and therefore access to to tree?

@AIMD sorry I replied re the bamboo just below

Timbucktime · 08/03/2021 07:44

Yes it’s their garden and they have the right to climb trees inside their own garden.
They do not however have the right to do what they want if it has a negative impact on others using their own gardens.

Unfortunately there seems to be a number of people who like to live in a goldfish bowl and think everyone else should be the same.

Wiredforsound · 08/03/2021 07:48

Unless the tree has Wifi they’ll get bored of it in 5 minutes. My two won’t even bother going into the garden any more.

lowbudgetnigella · 08/03/2021 07:57

I'd go round but rather than ask them to remove it ask if they can put up some camouflage screening up so if they are sat on platform they can't see into your garden. Their kids would probably like that , more den like. I don't see why you should have to do it. That would be less confrontational.

tentimesaday · 08/03/2021 08:07

I guarantee you that after the first month or so the tree platform will be rarely if ever used. That's what kids are like. Seriously, don't sweat it.

HazelWong · 08/03/2021 08:12

. I cannot believe the posters who say they would be ok with this.

I wouldn't care at all. I would mind if they were noisy but I don't think it would have occurred to me to be bothered about people seeing me in my garden.

Maybe it's just living in London where gardens aren't huge and you don't really have the expectation of privacy in your garden anyway

halfwaythrough2 · 08/03/2021 08:18

Wow there's so many nasty people on here.

Kids are bored out their tiny minds and trying to play with a tree!

Go round there ask
Them to remove or put up privacy boards etc. But do not contact the council and get it removed like that.

But this is going to affect how the OP lives her life in her own garden.

But that’s her issue or choice, plenty of people wouldn’t give a shit about some kids playing up a treee.
fairycakes1234 · 08/03/2021 09:09

I feel your pain, my neighbours child sits on their shed and fence sometimes and stares into my kitchen, if im sitting in the garden and doing something she'll ask me what im doing, if im in the kitchen i look out and shes waving, not the end of the world but annoying all the same. I have kids but wouldnt let them sit looking into someones house. Dont think theres a lot you can do about it unfortunately.

LakieLady · 08/03/2021 13:20

If they don't get bored with it after a few days, and it starts to be a nuisance, you could always get one of these OP:

And plenty wouldn't. People shouldn't be telling the OP how to feel.

I don’t get this thing that peoples with trampolines will always seem to put it right up against a neighbours fence and out of sight from their own living rooms
Wonkydonkey44 · 10/03/2021 20:39

Yep your quite right , we will sit in our adult space and make sure our neighbours don’t get to enjoy any peace and quiet or any privacy as my darlings will jump higher than end fence Angry

Um you did read it’s children in the tree house, right? I dunno if the op is male or female but deliberately indecently exposing yourself to them ain’t funny,,,😱
