Joggers should be banned from paths and pavements

As a car driver I find that the occasional cyclist breaks highway codes, cycles dangerously, or cycles without care and consideration. Key word being occasional, so no biggie. Just like how the occasional car diver is a .

But as a pedestrian going for a stroll in the park, the number of rude, selfish, careless and aggressive joggers i've seen is ridiculous high.

I see a jogger coming towards me, I walk to the side/edge of the path, but joggers always decide to keep running straight down the middle....

Similar to the above, joggers not keep a safe distance, and actually brushing past me.

And lastly, the worst offenders, joggers running side by side taking up the whole path, coming towards me, and giving me looks as if im supposed to jump out the way and off the path. ***

I honestly think legislation should be brought in to ban jogging on paths and pavements. Restricting joggers to grassland/cross country, outdoor tracks, private land, and the gym. The same way that cycling isnt permitted on pavements.

I’m a jogger and I’m really considerate! I always move out in time and jog a long way around people. However it really pisses me off when it’s 2 or more people walking in a group taking up the entire width of the pavement and make no attempt to just walk in single file when they see me approach. It works both ways.
I mainly end up running on the side of (pretty empty) roads right now, but will always get the occasional car hooting angrily at me even though there’s never a car coming from the other direction, I only run on roads where they have clear view of me in advance, use the road when pavements are busy with pedestrians and it’s not illegal to run on the road anyway, but you’ll always get at least 1 irate driver just having to hoot.

DollyParton2 · 08/03/2021 14:10

BalancedIndividual you do know gyms right now are shut?

ravenmum · 08/03/2021 14:10

OP, you'd be horrified to learn that people can not only run, but also cycle on many pavements here in Germany - there are signs showing where it's allowed. And the German equivalent of the AA or RAC specifies that joggers and inline skaters are classed as pedestrians.

@BalancedIndividual Or a goady twat to be a goady twat on the internet?

Name calling....sigh....

If you've experienced joggers barging past you and your 2 year old and nearly running you over on multiple occasions maybe you'd feel differently.

The same way id tell a runner to run on a sports track.
Or a jogger to run on a treadmill at the gym or across grassland.
The awkward moment where the OP doesn't seem to realise that athletics, road RUNNING and trail RUNNING are all separate disciplines, and not the same as using a treadmill at the gym.

Anyone would think that those who do the sport know better on how to train than someone moaning about joggers.

UrAWizHarry · 08/03/2021 14:15

Ignoring all posts that disagree with you...

sigh.

DollyParton2 · 08/03/2021 14:17

ravenmum German pavements are amazing! Truly, so well organised and people really respect how they’re intended to be shared/ used.

Thats not true at all. Look through the last 23 pages. Youll see ive quoted and responded to people who disagree....

And i accept its not all joggers, just a sizeable fraction that ruin it for everyone.

People can run wherever they want, as long as its not on a public pedestrian pavement/path.

Most Brits where I live complain about how they are full of speeding cyclists! You can't just move to the left or right without looking over your shoulder first. Either that, or they complain about the cyclists ringing their bells at them - which they are supposed to do, so you know they are coming. Took me a while to get used to, too. But here, a mere jogger or two is NOTHING!

And I take advice from people who know what they're talking about. It is so painfully obvious that you don't, I actually feel embarrassed for you.

Where do you get this authority from to tell people what to do? Its certainly not legal!

exhausteddog · 08/03/2021 14:23

Running tracks are closed
Gyms are closed
"Grassland" might be fields with animals grazing, or private land or boggy/not passable without spikes or trail shoes.
Conversely anyone wanting to walk for exercise could also use a treadmill, an airfield, grassland (I'm imagining some David Attenborough programme with Wildebeest now) ...but they would probably prefer not to in case a rogue wildebeest breathed on them

ravenmum · 08/03/2021 14:24

I didn't realise that, is it in the Highway Code?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 08/03/2021 14:24

It's not something that ever used to bother me until i acquired a rather large rescue dog. Surprise, surprise it turns out most dogs dont like someone running directly at you at high speed, they see it as an attack. It used to really bother me and id walk in the road to avoid the joggers.
But now im just like i double fucking dare you to run right at me, if you are stupid enough to do it, then you deserve my scary looking dog to lunge & growl at you!
And the funny thing is i think the dog has picked up on my attitude change and he is cool as a cucumber now Grin

GreenlandTheMovie · 08/03/2021 14:25

Hark! A new law has been passed!

In fact, never mind a new law, an entire new way of law-making.

UrAWizHarry · 08/03/2021 14:28

"Youll see ive quoted and responded to people who disagree...."

Yeah, to continue being a goady twat and not to actually take anything on board.

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 08/03/2021 14:28

OP sorry if you’ve answered- but other than walking do you actually do any exercise that really actually raises your heart rate- like running? As this is recommended for fitness and health you know.

I do suspect you’re actually bitter and envious as really you’d like to run.

Can you imagine if running was banned from pavements right now and all runners had to walk instead? There’d literally be traffic jams with beards of slow moving zombies walking the pavements at snail pace. Don’t be silly. Just run, you know you want to Grin

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/03/2021 14:29

Oy on MN does this seem to be a problem, I don't see it irl. I don't hear people irl communing about it.

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 08/03/2021 14:29

#hoards not beards

LolaSmiles · 08/03/2021 14:29

Wrong.
People can run on pavements and paths.
Your opinion is they shouldn't.

As I just said after your silly argument about telling runners to run on tracks and joggers to run on grassland (which shows absolutely zero clue about the topic):

Anyone would think that those who do the sport know better on how to train than someone moaning about joggers

Thankfully the world doesn't run according to moaning minnies who think life revolves around their opinion on topics they know little about.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/03/2021 14:29

Only

CandidaAlbicans2 · 08/03/2021 14:31

You have a point, OP, about lack of social distancing, and I say that as someone who was once a keen runner so pro-running (going to start up again soon!). I've certainly found that a lot of the runners I've encountered recently haven't kept their distance from me at all even when it was possible to. For example, I was walking on the pavement which had a wide grass verge, and was right against one side so as not to take up all the space, A man ran past me, from behind (so I didn't know he was coming and couldn't take evasive action, only about 2 feet (not 2 metres) away. He could've easily given me room, the verge wasn't muddy, but he didn't. Unfortunately this isn't a one off, by a long way, and it just shows a lack of consideration for others 😕
