Joggers should be banned from paths and pavements

As a car driver I find that the occasional cyclist breaks highway codes, cycles dangerously, or cycles without care and consideration. Key word being occasional, so no biggie. Just like how the occasional car diver is a .

But as a pedestrian going for a stroll in the park, the number of rude, selfish, careless and aggressive joggers i've seen is ridiculous high.

I see a jogger coming towards me, I walk to the side/edge of the path, but joggers always decide to keep running straight down the middle....

Similar to the above, joggers not keep a safe distance, and actually brushing past me.

And lastly, the worst offenders, joggers running side by side taking up the whole path, coming towards me, and giving me looks as if im supposed to jump out the way and off the path. ***

I honestly think legislation should be brought in to ban jogging on paths and pavements. Restricting joggers to grassland/cross country, outdoor tracks, private land, and the gym. The same way that cycling isnt permitted on pavements.

to the OP: DFOD

As a runner (not a jogger BTW) I'm sick to death of holier than thou people getting all arsey about us keeping up our hobby through a difficult period. I have been running for years and intend to carry it on for years. Yes I move for other people (cars, pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders etc) and they move for me. So glad I don't appear to see the same attitudes in RL as I do on here. There are twats in all walks of life so why are us runners (again not joggers) constantly getting shamed for the actions of a small minority? Its very short sighted.

Cherrycynic · 06/03/2021 13:25

I'm a runner and have had the opposite experience. Walkers who insist on walking smack bang in the middle of the pavement despite perfectly good grass verges on either side that would allow both parties to pass safely without me having to run into the road. I will always move onto the road when faced with such people, and will hang back to allow space until it's safe too.

I have even had people (always those not prepared to budge from the middle of the path) tutting and scoffing when I pass when I've overtaken or passed on the road with plenty of space! There is no pleasing some people!

Selfish arseholes can be joggers or runners. If people are that bloody worried about Covid they should at least make the effort to keep space too.

On the plus side I do enjoy the mutual gestures of thanks when both sides are considerate, it's nice to smile and say thanks to someone for giving you a bit of space, or to get an appreciative nod.

I’ve just got back from a run. At one point there was a couple in front of me on a path with fence either side walking hand in hand. I really slowed down so I stayed 6 foot behind. Didn’t call out as on another thread about running someone said it was rude to expect walkers to scatter because you want to get past. Stayed that way until end of path until they noticed me, ignored my hello, gave me a dirty look and muttered something under breath (I was too weighed down with tech* to hear what). Not sure what else I could have done.
Probably won’t hate all walkers now though.

Chamonixshoopshoop · 06/03/2021 13:44

I run, and I'll run in the road if I need to, to get out of people's way!
You are being unreasonable to stereotype an entire group of people based on a handful of experiences.
Also, our NHS is burdened by obesity related illness. Fewer people running is not good.

TippledPink · 06/03/2021 13:50

I have never found runners or joggers to be inconsiderate. Kids and people with their dogs on long leads yes. No one owns the pavement we can all share it.

exhausteddog · 06/03/2021 13:51

Agree @OrangeBananaFish @Cherrycynic

Some people are just inconsiderate and they would be if they were driving, cycling, walking running (and probably in other situations like barging past someone in a queue) ...but its always runners, or cyclists fault.

I was out for a run a few weeks ago, and was approaching some people walking a dog. At the same time both parties, me and the other people decided to cross the (fairly busy) road. I was actually crossing because it was a convenient place to cross and I live on that side of the road. I presume the other people were crossing to get away from me. They stopped in the road (with dog) when they realised I was now on the side they were trying to escape to, and shrugged and tutted, and glared at me for having the audacity to cross the road to my house, all the while putting themselves and the dog in danger by being in the middle of the bloody road! I apologised although it was just bad luck that we crossed at the same time.

Pan2 · 06/03/2021 13:53

Not read what will be a waste of time thread.

OP, get out a bit more. Talk to someone.

MagentaRocks · 06/03/2021 13:57

When I am out with the dog and see a runner/jogger I make sure my dog is to the side. Every time I get a thank you. When I used to run I have times and routes so not having to move out of the way was great but happy to do it of needed. Luckily most people where I am are happy to be considerate of others

MasterBeth · 06/03/2021 13:58

I’m a jogger, a walker, a driver and occasionally a cyclist.

I am careful, thoughtful, selfless and kind at all times. I keep left, I stand back and I stop to let others through.

There is nothing particularly awful about joggers. There are selfish cunts of all persuasions.

I dodge and weave, duck and dive, speed up, slow down, I am the essence of adaptability and maneuverability

How can anyone possibly criticise me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Felifox · 06/03/2021 14:04

I've never been able to run due to a twisted hip and knee problem, walking fast yes. A pavement is intended for walking not running. Where I live our local community took over the running track which from being virtually unused now hosts walks, runs, cycling sadly all pre-pandemic. However running on hard surfaces can seriously damage your knees by the time you're in your 40's or 50's.

Ah but now you’re being smug. 😉

Well, how very dare you 😮🤭😶

Anordinarymum · 06/03/2021 14:10

@suspiria777

you sound absolutely fucking ridiculous.
But a well thought out post :)
Cherrycynic · 06/03/2021 14:57

A pavement is intended for walking not running.

@Felifox says who?! Hmm

Pavements are not exclusively for walkers, you've just made that up! They are for pedestrians (ie ON FOOT), and they are there because it's not safe to be a pedestrian in the road. They are also for little kids on bikes, dogs being walked, the list goes on...

GirlCrush · 06/03/2021 15:01

Get to fuck, I’m not running in no ‘gym’!!! Ugh, no way

Maybe you need to learn to ‘stroll’ faster

acatcalledjohn · 06/03/2021 18:33

I can't run on a treadmill. Really hate it.

Hangingover · 06/03/2021 18:36

Policing this would be hilarious Grin

"you! Stop walking so fast!"

exhausteddog · 06/03/2021 19:29

I had to break into a jog today to get home after going for a walk with a friend because I was busting for a wee Blush Blush

I did avoid other people though!

Fembot123 · 06/03/2021 19:36

Oh for the love of God 😂

lljkk · 06/03/2021 19:52

OP:
Sorry, I should have included this in my opening post. I haven't had this problem with ANY female runners yet. Its always been male runners/joggers.

Good one, OP. Nearly 5 pages worth now. Next time start your thread with the male point front & centre & put it in the Rad-Fem section of MN. You'll get adoring supportive replies & can hope for a TRENDING NOW section mention (how does a thread end up in there, do we know?)

This actually made me laugh our loud.
Lepetitpiggy · 06/03/2021 20:25

I went for a run after reading this thread and observed the habits of the 'walker'. It was dark I will add, but I came across only two people who refused to go into single file as I approached. I had already started to veer towards the grass verge though, so maybe I wasn't intimidating enough? A tricky moment occurred when I was on a reasonably wide piece of pavement and there was a person with a shopping bag coming one way and a rather cross person on a bike ( on the path, no lights, I could have shouted but couldn't be bothered) trying to overtake both her and run into me. Again, the grass verge was handy.
On the whole everyone else, me included was respectful and polite. I will going in the daylight tomorrow and can happily report back

Sweet666 · 06/03/2021 21:47

The slower person should always move out of the way for the faster person whether they're walking or running, it's just fair

BoKatan · 06/03/2021 21:53

I've come to the conclusion that the posters who have a bee in their bonnet about us runners are actually just jealous of our superior lung function and ability to fight off Covid Grin
