Joggers should be banned from paths and pavements

As a car driver I find that the occasional cyclist breaks highway codes, cycles dangerously, or cycles without care and consideration. Key word being occasional, so no biggie. Just like how the occasional car diver is a .

But as a pedestrian going for a stroll in the park, the number of rude, selfish, careless and aggressive joggers i've seen is ridiculous high.

I see a jogger coming towards me, I walk to the side/edge of the path, but joggers always decide to keep running straight down the middle....

Similar to the above, joggers not keep a safe distance, and actually brushing past me.

And lastly, the worst offenders, joggers running side by side taking up the whole path, coming towards me, and giving me looks as if im supposed to jump out the way and off the path. ***

I honestly think legislation should be brought in to ban jogging on paths and pavements. Restricting joggers to grassland/cross country, outdoor tracks, private land, and the gym. The same way that cycling isnt permitted on pavements.

Honestly, as a jogger I make every effort not to get in anyone's way and often have to run in the mud when people refuse to move out of the middle of the path.

Dog walkers let their dogs chase me, should we ban them too?

We're all people, joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, walkers. Some of us are c*s and some aren't.

Dailywalk · 05/03/2021 21:04

I run. If I’m running in the direction of the oncoming traffic I will gladly go into the road. The number of people that do the same for me is often zero. And only fellow runners say thank you, walkers never do.

If I can’t run on the pavement where in your opinion can I run? Motorway hard shoulder suit you?

oil0W0lio · 05/03/2021 21:15

we have penny farthings and uni cycles round here, I always applaud, ditto roller bladers, soooo wish I could do it!!

TripleSeptic · 05/03/2021 21:27

Joggers are pedestrians like walkers. They're entitled to use the footpath, like walkers. The number of inconsiderate walker's I've seen, especial on the wrong side of the road, with kids and dogs they don't pick up after, is an absolute disgrace. We - walkers and joggers, should face the oncoming traffic. If you are in front, the jogger/s will go round you. If they are ahead of you, why do you care? It's more to do with folk not knowing what side of the road they should be on, and whether or not they're allowed on the footpath. If you are on foot, use the footpath and face the oncoming traffic. If you have wheels, use the road and go in the same direction of the traffic. If you are in a wheelchair or scooter that isn't road legal, face the oncoming traffic. If your scooter is road legal, you are traffic. I'm not that old. This was taught in schools. My 5 year old knows it. YABU to slag joggers for using the footpath. Won't run/can't run? If they're on their side, no probs for you. It is surprisingly difficult for a runner to veer off their expected course with little notice, your legs become programmed. Have some consideration for folk taking their exercise, whatever it may be.

I think OP is Piers Morgan 😉

Sidalee7 · 05/03/2021 21:47

These runner bashing threads are getting so repetitive.
I am a runner. I like to run in the open countryside, but to get there I need to run on paths and pavements. I am always considerate to those around me and would never run close to anyone. I always thank people if they give way to me and I haven’t ever had an incident/issue with anyone and I run 5 days a week!
Some posters on here seem to hate runners in a way that just isn’t reflected in real life. Is it jealousy? It is so, so strange.

PatButchersEarring · 05/03/2021 22:14

Is that you, Piers?

WhereverIlaymyhat2021 · 05/03/2021 22:18

Totally fucking opposite for me!!! I’m a ‘jogger’ have been happily running where I run for near on 5 years without encountering many people, since last March people everywhere. I always without exception move out into the road cross over or if it’s busy I’m both sides go back the way I came. Man only because I want to keep my distance.

Only 3 times in nearly a year has anyone on the now packed pavements of amoeba brained walkers who are now doing the most exercise they’ve done in their lives said thank you. And two of those times was THE SAME MAN!!!!

No one has ever moved out of the way for me first, and I’ve even had people (happens at least once a week) when I cross over two lanes of traffic to the other pavement which is clear follow me over!!!

This pandemic has really had brought the absolutey stupid out!

Daphnise · 05/03/2021 22:19

Joggers, runners, cyclists are all a menace to people trying to get somewhere on foot.

But they can't be banned- most of them can't help being unintelligent and selfish.

Nohomemadecandles · 05/03/2021 22:20

Are you walking through the middle of the bloody marathon??

SoupDragon · 05/03/2021 22:23

It is surprisingly difficult for a runner to veer off their expected course with little notice, your legs become programmed.

😂😂 try using that ridiculous excuse with anything else.

FrangipaniBlue · 05/03/2021 22:27

This is my experience as a runner OP....

I see someone walking a jogger coming towards me, I walk keep to the side/edge of the path, but joggers the walkers always decide to keep running coming straight down the middle....

Similar to the above, joggers people out walking and not keep a safe distance, and actually brushing past me.

And lastly, the worst offenders, joggers people running ambling along side by side taking up the whole path, coming towards me, and giving me looks as if im supposed to jump out the way and off the path.

Inkpaperstars · 05/03/2021 22:55

I think it really does depend where you live. I live in quite a crowded urban area, but when I complain about things like this to family who live in suburban and rural areas they don’t have any issues.

pinkpolo · 05/03/2021 23:00

@Hippopotas

Oh fuck off
This
Ragiam · 05/03/2021 23:08

We are runners, we are not joggers. No matter how fast or slow we are runners.

Also....do one!!

Hmmmm2018 · 05/03/2021 23:11

I find it is the walkers who tend to be worse, joggers move to the side, slow down, walkers are walking in large groups not socially distanced taking up the whole path and won't move to one side of the path so joggers can go past on the other side of the path.

FaceyRomford · 05/03/2021 23:17

Been saying this for years. I totally agree with you OP.

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/03/2021 23:17

@Stirmecrazy

For most runners there is no choice but to run on pavements . Believe me if there was an alternative to continually dodging pedestrians erratically walking children dogs on ridiculously long leads we would take it. Maybe the government should shake that money tree and build all of us joggers some lovely rubber running tracks in every town and then we would all be happy . But as this is unlikely you are just going to have to suck it up and share your pavement
Not RTFT but can I ask about the children dogs please? Ta.
2020iscancelled · 05/03/2021 23:22

YABVU

Joggers don’t always do this.

I am a runner and I go out of my way to move off the pavement and into the road / verge / grass for walkers and even other runners.

I actually often run in the road because the pavements are so flipping awful that it’s dangerous, a trip hazard. Very easy to twist ankle etc. But where the roads are busy I run on the pavement, in the park I use the paths Because I am not a trAil runner.

So your statement can’t be true. There is no always about it at all.

I bet plenty of runners have ran around you, crossed to avoid you or made sure they aren’t in your path before you’ve even noticed them. But you wouldn’t have paid attention to those ones. You’re only seeing what you want to see.

It’s called confirmation bias.

You are not wrong to say some people are selfish arses but that it is in no way only applicable to runners or cyclists.
That’s just some people.

CoopsMalloops · 05/03/2021 23:50

I think walking should be banned on pavements because when you’re trying to run they are always in the way!
I think the government should make it law that they walk in the road. That is the most sane and sensible option.

GreenlandTheMovie · 05/03/2021 23:59

Theres certainly a good case to be made for walking being banned, at least during the pandemic, because while runners are past you in a flash, walkers linger. Its obviously a greater infection risk.

(this post was facetious by the way in case anyone didn't notice).

oil0W0lio · 06/03/2021 00:03

I think it would be mean to ban walkers but I think they should at least stop and applaud when people run because after all we are saving the NHS and all that sort of thing 😶

Mally2020 · 06/03/2021 01:12

Bit extreme to ban them but fully agree that most are selfish a holes. They will literally run into you here in london or breathe all over you as they run past, There's a canal route down where I am that is quite narrow to get past and they refuse to stop running if you're already walking down the stretch and won't even move out of the way.

MaddieElla · 06/03/2021 01:23

"Joggers, runners, cyclists are all a menace to people trying to get somewhere on foot."

Do I need to bring back my Ironman costume?

StardewMelons · 06/03/2021 02:14

No it shouldn't be banned, like rude walkers who think they own the path and YOU should move. Be the bigger person! Sidestep left and stick your right leg out Grin
