To not see the point in Body Shop At Home?

A few people I know have started doing this and it's endless FB posts of things you can buy direct from Bodyshop (and get better offers!). I don't really see how they can call themselves businesses either? It must be a scam!

OP posts:
endlesswicker · 03/03/2021 18:17

I know someone who's been doing it for a number of years and she's ok about it - just the occasional post and I'd go to one of her parties about once a year. In general though, it does seem to have changed for the worse of late, and new people doing it really seem to go in for the hard sell.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 03/03/2021 18:21

Better value for smaller orders. I think postage is still chargeable up to £20-£30 online. One bar of soap for example, cheaper from body shop at home

KatherineOfGaunt · 03/03/2021 18:22

It's an MLM. So 97% of people make virtually nothing and the top 1% are all on six-figure salaries. It's definitely not their own business; they are a sales person, is all.

I don't support MLMs.

FedNlanders · 03/03/2021 18:23

Pointless but also dont support Anita after reading about her stealing ideas and not giving money where promised.

LarsErickssong · 03/03/2021 18:24

It's an MLM so yep 100% scam

FedNlanders · 03/03/2021 18:33

Raffles too. Nice way to get peoples money

Anita Roddick died in 2007.

I won't buy anything from them after their disgraceful behaviour towards J K Rowling, so it's pretty easy to avoid their MLM anyway.

FedNlanders · 03/03/2021 18:56

Sorry bad typing holding dc. I know she did but foundations of it are bad. Agree about JK Rowling.

BakedTattie · 03/03/2021 19:01

I have a couple of friends who do this and claim to make loads, get freebies, have the best working life etc etc etc.

I steer well clear as I think the stuff is shite anyway

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/03/2021 19:05

MLM. 100% not going there.

TheRaccoon · 03/03/2021 19:06

Ughhh these shitty MLMs are taking over the world. Cannot stand listening to people harp on about “running my own business” “it’s not a pyramid scheme” etc etc etc 🤢

Findahouse21 · 03/03/2021 19:08

I don't understand the problem tbh. My friend does it and is open in saying that it's not huge money, but enough to allow her to do maybe 1 fun thing with her children per month that would otherwise be out of her budget. She has a closed FB group and doesn't advertise outside of it. I pay the same prices as on the website (just checked) and my friend gets a small amount of that. I don't see the problem if everyone in the chain accepts their role with eyes open.

demelza82 · 03/03/2021 19:17

A close friend of mine does it. She doesn't know that I'm massively MLM and I haven't told her and has just sussed that I'm not interested so that is fine. I know that she spends more on products than she makes but can afford it. I think she sees it as a hobby and quite enjoys doing the Facebook parties.

What does grind my gears though is the infiltration of PTA fundraising and community Facebook groups with their disengenious raffles and 'let's buy handcreams for teachers'

demelza82 · 03/03/2021 19:19

*anti MLM

My friend does exactly the same. I don't have to take a 20 mile round trip into the nearest city to buy one item of something I use from there or pay extortionate P&P fees - she delivers it to my door for the same price I would pay in the shop. Works for me
HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/03/2021 19:40

She died 14 years ago @FedNlanders Hmm

My pet hate.

Your friend gets a small amount and so does her upline, and her upline, and her upline, and her upline... So you're not just supporting your friend but also other people above her in the structure who have done nothing to sell you your product yet get paid anyway.

There are many shady practices from MLMs. It's good to support a friend but the company is unfairly structured against them so the majority of people make little or no money, or actually lose money.

TheGlitterFairy · 04/03/2021 07:53

One of my friends has started to do this and it makes me cringe every time I see a post. I hate MLMs and feel bad she’s been sucked into it. Especially when she posts nonsense such as “being able to make car payments” and “running her own business” from basically fleecing her friends for tat. Also it’s not true anyway as her husband pays for everything. Eugh - dreadful.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 04/03/2021 07:59

I hate mlm's with a passion....these 'consultants' need their heads testing...who in their right mind thinks its ok to guilt your family and friends into buying overpriced tat so that they can make a tiny bit of money off it...get some dignity and get a proper job.

LindaEllen · 04/03/2021 08:01

I quite enjoy body shop parties, they can be a lot of fun, and I will usually put in a decent order when I attend them as I feel the host has worked hard to make them a success! (And we usually do them as charity nights for our organisation, so even better).

But I see no point in ordering from consultants without a party when you can just order online. I do order quite a lot from there as I love their products and a few family members do too so I also order for them. I've collected so many loyalty points, which you don't get from consultants, and I always get free postage whereas consultants charge £2.99 however big your order is.

Redglitter · 04/03/2021 08:03

A friend of mine does it. I must admit i like their stuff. She has a private FB page & never posts about it on her own page. I dont order loads of stuff so ordering from her saves me P&P.

She doesn't do raffles, give aways or anything and has never tried to recruit. She says herself that her commission more or less pays for the stuff she uses.

I have another FB acquaintance who's the opposite. Her personal page is flooded with posts, she was pushing for face masks for the local hospital recently, has raffles etc several times a week & is always trying to recruit. I've unpolluted her so I don't need to read her crap. She just seems to be a stereotypical MLM person

The 2 of them are I suppose in it for different reasons though.

purpledagger · 04/03/2021 08:04

I've never seen the point of Body Shop at Home. My local town centre has two stores, plus practically every High Street and train station does, plus you can order online yourself. Given the availability of the products, why would you buy it from a rep?

I don't have any strong views on MLMs and I rarely get approached by anyone selling anything, so I'm not too bothered about that, I'm just pondering the question why anyone would buy from a rep when there is a store on every high street.

Convenience. I message my friend & she delivers it to me when it arrives. Theres no shop near where I stay. Nearest one is probably in the city centre so a good half hour away. Ordering online costs me P&P

BlueSoop · 04/03/2021 08:12

If they think this is “running their own business” then they obviously have no idea about how to actually run a business. I don’t see the point of it either - I live literally 5 minutes from a Body Shop where the stuff is dirt cheap and always on sale, why would I buy it from someone at full price?
