To ask if you eat meals you'd never feed to guests but love?

So, I adore this meal which is (very) broadly speaking a sausage cassorole, but is just sliced cooked Sausages and baked beans, mixed with gravy topped with sliced boiled potatoes with a bit of thicker gravy on top of them and cooked in thr oven for at least half an hour. It's soooooo good, proper comfort food. But I would never serve it to guests! Do you eat things you'd be too embarrassed to serve to guests but really like it yourself?

A piece of toast topped with slices of cheese, then tomatoes and mushrooms, more cheese, ground black pepper. Put in microwave for two and a half minutes. Top with a tin of baked beans. More black pepper. Yum Blush.

@Etinox

Corned beef hash, stovies, south london chicken and chips from a box, Philadelphia on dark chocolate digestives are private foods. 🤦🏻‍♀️😳
I would love to go for dinner at someone's house and they'd put on a bit spread from Morley's 🤤

Microwave mashed potato covered with cholula hot sauce and grated cheese, eaten with BBQ pringle spoons Blush

crystalcherry87 · 03/03/2021 18:16

My macaroni cheese. It's always really bland so would never serve to friends but husband and kids love it.

ElfAndSafetyInspector · 03/03/2021 18:21

Plain boiled potatoes and mayonnaise. I was outraged by the boiled potato hating thread Grin

Rosieposy89 · 03/03/2021 18:23

Baked bean pasties. Puff pastry, filled with beans and cheese, baked in the oven. I was taught it in food tech and it is comfort food!

Tartyflette · 03/03/2021 18:25

Ahem. Tartiflette is a lovely regional French dish, much beloved in ski resorts as a hearty, warming après-ski meal. But not exactly posh.
(Even with Reblochon, which you can get in Tescos.)

Spaghetti in a home made cheese sauce. Lush but looks a mess.
My dm used to have digestives with cheese and jam as an easy cheesecake.

FolkyFoxFace · 03/03/2021 18:39

I really love soggy overcooked "stir-fry". It's not really stir fry at all but it's so nice.

A chopped tomato, chopped pepper, sweetcorn, cabbage, green beans, peas, and lumps of frozen spinach all fried up together in a small frying pan with Thai spices and soya sauce. I also add Blue Dragon sweet chilli sauce. Blush

It goes all weird and soft but it just tastes so nice.

Egg in a cup. Just two soft boiled eggs mashed in a cup with buttered white bread, salt, pepper, and butter.

Mashed carrot and peas with gravy. Or without gravy and a poached egg instead.

Mashed sweet potato and fried tomato. Loads of butter.

All of my private foods seem to be soggy messes and I've no idea why. 😂

ladymalfoy · 03/03/2021 18:40

Lidl’s Hot and Spicy Chicken Thigh Burgers. Cooked, cooled and in a bun with Mayo.

Nameitychangity · 03/03/2021 18:43

Spaghetti cooked until soft, drained, add a large knob of butter, lots of salt and black pepper. Tonnes of grated cheese on top and lashing of tomato ketchup.

Asdparent · 03/03/2021 18:43

Curry pot noodle with bread.

adeleh · 03/03/2021 18:45

Egg and chips.
Food of the gods. I have it on a Friday to celebrate the end of the week.

7catsisnotenough · 03/03/2021 18:45

@Exhausted4ever

Yum! Thick, buttery parsley sauce, loads of peas and some bread and butter...😍😍😍

FolkyFoxFace · 03/03/2021 18:46

Oh, and cheese and onion pasty butties. Loads of butter. Pasties smushed into bread with a fork. Tomato sauce on the side.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 03/03/2021 18:54

@ViciousJackdaw

Sausages, fried egg, chips and beans with a couple of slices of buttered white bread. Absolutely no nutrition, far too many carbs, myocardial infarction on plate and would never expect someone else to eat it but sometimes, you just cannot beat it.
This is the loveliest thing... I could dispense with the beans though - or maybe just a few so that the bean juice doesn't make the chips soggy.

I can't wait to get to a proper cafe and have this!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 03/03/2021 18:54

Bacon and onion or spring onions fried in a pan with left over cooked potatoes and cabbage added in with a bit of butter to make a sort of bubble and squeak.

Sausage, mash and baked beans.

Pasta, butter, parmesan and black pepper.

ScottChegg · 03/03/2021 18:55

A pizza made from a part baked baguette sliced lengthways, toasted in the oven for a couple of minutes, then spread with tomato puree, sprinkled with oregano and topped with a sprinkle of grated parmesan and a handful each of grated mozzarella and grated cheddar. It's not pretty but it is pretty good.

We make a version of that cheat's jambalaya with the Mexican rice only we put in onion, peppers, sweetcorn and red kidney beans, stir through some salsa from a jar and then put it in wraps as a kind of burrito type thing. It's a mess but it's lovely.

mbosnz · 03/03/2021 18:55

My fish pie, made with tinned salmon, eggs, and parsley in a roux sauce, topped with buttery mash.

But ooooh, it's almost as good as me Mum's!

ScottChegg · 03/03/2021 18:56

Forgot to say, you do have to put the part baked baguette BACK in the oven for a few minutes...

Thelnebriati · 03/03/2021 18:58

Seared lambs liver and onions with smoked bacon.
Judge away!

Letsrunabath · 03/03/2021 19:03

Smashed boiled eggs in a cup with salt, pepper and butter eaten with a spoon.

MrsPnut · 03/03/2021 19:03

My favourite is cod in parsley sauce, frozen natch, served with frozen peas or Brussel sprouts and if I am feeling fancy some mashed sweet potato.

The rest of my family hate it and I'd never serve it to a guest but it's so comforting but yet still has the vegetables so I can feel good about eating it.

LubaLuca · 03/03/2021 19:15

Most of what we eat isn't what I'd serve to guests. Where had macaroni cheese this evening, adding a few rashers of bacon and some mushrooms that were almost beyond use. We had an unconventional but very tasty curry last night. Weeknight family cooking is rarely intended to be impressive in our house.
