My one year wants to watch tv, but doesn't like anything

She throws herself at the tv dramatically, wailing and looks for the the remotes. So I put on something and she looks disgusted and goes to find the remote again to hand to me. I say what would you like and she makes a crying noise. I change it to something else. She makes a face, Mumma she says and points at the TV . I have no idea. I ask would you like Bus, nothing. Ahhhhhhh.

Tried nursery rhymes on YouTube/ Peppa Pig / Sarah & Duck she hates everything. I hide the remotes, wailing clinging to the tv unit starts ... No one can say I'm not trying. She watches only 15 seconds of anything before crying.

Mio Mao currently on C5 and now. I don't even like cats but it's plasticine genius.

MasterBeth · 02/03/2021 22:18

I hope you find something soon that she can watch. I would hate to think she was missing out on staring at a screen at her age.

beakyboo10 · 02/03/2021 22:27

My 2 year old is the same and just keeps passing the remote to anyone in the house, he loves buses so will sit and watch videos of London buses on Youtube for around 30 minutes. There are hundreds of transport videos on YouTube.

He still loves to watch Blippi now and again Cocomelon, just wish he would watch Postman Pat or Thomas.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/03/2021 22:32

The only ones I could handle were Yo Gabba Gabba and Bubble Guppies.

Never ever find Caillou on YouTube. I'd murder that little Canadian arsehole with my bare hands if I could.

Caiti19 · 02/03/2021 22:43

It sounds to me like your little girl saw something at one point that totally enthralled her and has been trying to get you to switch on that thing ever since. I think this because I remember my children doing this as toddlers - and me failing to locate what they wanted based on non-verbal gestures and crying, but randomly hitting on what it was unintentionally way down the line and the penny dropping "Oh, that's what you were on about when you were pointing at the TV and shouting dog/girl/man etc" Smile The YouTube channel Cocomelon is fab by the way.

Don't knock Caillou. Yes, he can be a whiny little boll*x, but I read somewhere that watching Caillou had same effect on brain as colouring in - there is definitely a place for that very basic, non-hyper narrative style of programme for young children. Just a pity they had to make him so whiny.

Maybe she likes the picture constantly changing and actually wants you to show her what the buttons do rather than watch tv.

SlothWithACloth · 02/03/2021 23:02

Mine loved teletubbies at that age. It was like hypnosis to them.

TulesDana · 02/03/2021 23:05

At that age my daughter loved Singing Hands, lots on YouTube, I ended up buying the DVDs too.

TheGoogleMum · 02/03/2021 23:13

My daughter loved singing hands (on youtube) and hey duggee (bbc iplayer) and still loves duggee more than ever a year later... twirlywoos, teletubbies and baby club were popular too

BestZebbie · 02/03/2021 23:17

DipDap and Morph on YouTube
Little Baby Bum semi-infinite song loops on you tube
In the night garden on CBeebies
Alphablocks on YouTube (not to teach reading at this age!)

thebabessavedme · 02/03/2021 23:37

try the walking dead or sons of anarchy, all old but classic! Grin

MoroSun · 02/03/2021 23:41

What’s your relationship / bond like? You sound as though you’re on very different pages

Ilovemaisie · 02/03/2021 23:42

Maybe it is just the buttons and sounds she likes. You can get play remote controls that make all the annoying noises that these things do but babies seem to love.

Thelnebriati · 02/03/2021 23:43

Try the fishtanks on Youtube.

HearMeSnore · 03/03/2021 03:11

I second the Baby Einstein DVDs. They had DD mesmerised. She still likes them now (age 9) when she's ill and needs something comforting and calming.

At one year she also started to enjoy the Wiggles (Rock A Bye Bear on a constant loop) and a few animated nursery rhymes on YouTube. There's a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star one with an owl that she found particularly poignant. Hickory Dickory Dock where the elephant ends up smashing the clock to bits, and a very trippy version of The Wheels On The Bus featuring a purple dancing bus and a cast of highly colourful creatures. Not for the faint-hearted, that one.

SillyOldMummy · 03/03/2021 03:24

My DS loved Bruno Mars, Zumba and Psy Gangnam Style at this age, so if you have a smart TV try some music videos and dance along too...

Kinsters · 03/03/2021 04:09

Cocomelon, and videos of herself haha.

If it's causing you stress then I'd just not let her watch anything though. How old is she? I stopped my 13 month old watching TV while we ate because it was becoming too stressful. It only took a day or two for her to adjust to not having it. Not to say she never watches screens but I decided to get rid of the screen time that was more trouble than it was worth.

Ilovemaisie · 03/03/2021 07:11

HearMeSnore we had that Wheels on the Bus dvd. It was quite hypnotic.
(Apparently it's award winning and there are sequels).

MonsterMash2210 · 03/03/2021 09:08

My one year old loves Disney songs, Super Simple songs, Bing, Teletubbies, Tee & Mo, Hey Duggee, and anything with Justin Fletcher.
