Yeah, kids that age will often still be up at 9. No reason why they can’t be watching a bit of tv before bed.

Don’t forget that there’s a billion and one channels, streaming services, and electronic devices around these days. Not like back in the olden days when there were only four channels and one telly per house, so there was much more of a need for broadcasters to switch to adult content earlier in the evening.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 02/03/2021 20:10

good point @ChristOnAPeloton

@Inthevirtualwaitingroom

yes but are 10 year olds watching TV right up until bedtime?
Mine is.
Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 02/03/2021 20:35

so will that cause a problem once it finishes at 7?

OP posts:
girlsyearapart · 02/03/2021 20:37

Not really because of iplayer ?

DrDreReturns · 02/03/2021 20:39

They can watch BBC3 instead now!

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 20:50

@Kpo58

Cbeebies is only on til 7 CBBC is currently til 9

I think POP is 24 hour.

As much as you hope kids aren't awake then, it is a good distraction for those still awake because they could be waiting for an ambulance or to go on holiday.

Laughing at those being your go-to reasons for kids being up late Grin

CBeebies stops at 7ish and that's for the young kids.

CBBC is for older kids. I remember watching the equivalent channels right up to age 12/13 (and 14 because my younger siblings still wanted to watch it and I secretly still liked some of the shows).

DipSwimSwoosh · 02/03/2021 21:08

Of course children in houses other than yours have varied routines.

lobba · 02/03/2021 21:09

But if CBeebies finishes at 7 why can't it go on that channel?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/03/2021 21:12

Isn't cbeebies BBC4?

WineInTheWillows · 02/03/2021 21:17

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Isn't cbeebies BBC4?
The channel is called CBeebies. At 7 it's replaced with a night screen and nothing is aired until fiveish the next morning.
WineInTheWillows · 02/03/2021 21:20

@lobba

But if CBeebies finishes at 7 why can't it go on that channel?
You'd have thought that'd be the perfect solution, wouldn't you?

The Beeb is unfortunately not known for its common sense.

Plumedenom · 02/03/2021 21:28

Perhaps it's because parents have campaigned to keep the night screen. I bloody relied on that a couple of times to prove it was bedtime! "Come on little plume, even the cbeebies are asleep, look!"

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 02/03/2021 21:59

I hear you @plum, I would have done the same

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/03/2021 22:02

I thought Cbeebies and BBC4 'shared' due to their opposing schedules (and once picking up the Cbeebies bedtime song on BBC4). That was several years ago though.

(Try forces TV... They alternate between CBeevies, CBBC and BBC2 on the same channel, and cancel children's TV during Wimbledon...)

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 02/03/2021 22:05

BBC4 uses the same frequency(?) as CBeebies, so CBBC couldn't use it for the two hours,

Xmasbaby11 · 02/03/2021 22:09

My 7 yo loves CBBC and sometimes stays up til 9. She wouldn't be watching tv at that point normally but might on holiday.

ShakespearesSisters · 02/03/2021 22:10

Bit gutted to hear it will finish at 7. We often watch the evening edition of horrible histories, a great show whatever your age.

Frogartist · 02/03/2021 22:13

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Isn't cbeebies BBC4?
It used to be.
BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 22:17

My 12 year old watches some cbbc shows and is up til 9pm... however we dont watch anything live anymore so it wouldn't make a difference. Id he surprised if many that age watch anything live!

Ilovemaisie · 02/03/2021 22:21

Cbeebies used to (possibly still does) share the channel with BBC4. At 7 pm was when the switch was made. Apparently once someone forgot to press the button to change the corner logo so a serious and grown up documentary was broadcast with a smiling sunshine in the corner !!
CBBC used to share with BBC 3. Also making the switch at 7. The first hour or so used to have programmes that would be ok for age 10/11 ish to watch - but more aimed at the 12/13/14 age group. When BBC 3 stopped being broadcast on TV it meant that there really wasn't anything on actual BBC TV aimed at the 12 - 15 or so age group. So they added a couple of hours to CBBC so it now finishes at 9.
I have many times sat down at 8pm looking for something to watch and ended up watching Horrible Histories or Hetty Feather on CBBC because they are considerably better than what's on the other channels.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 02/03/2021 22:27

Still does. We have a shit Freesat contraption that can't find channel 107 but will give us BBC4 if we go to the CBeebies channel on 608.
