AIBU to want Asda to tell me the registration number of the van that hit my car?

Hi, I’ve name changed for this (hopefully!).
On 5/2 in the evening, an Asda delivery driver hit my car which was parked outside my house.
I couldn’t see any damage until it was light the next day.
I went to my local store to report it and show photos and was told that they would pass it on to the insurance company.
A week later I returned to the store and was given a “bump card” and told to contact the insurers who were dealing with it.
I contacted them and they need me to give them a registration number or a claim number which I haven’t been given.
So I went back into the store to request these.
They are refusing point blank to give me these details. I am going round and round between calling and visiting the store, calling their customer service number and emailing a store manager with photos and cctv videos.
When I tried to report it to the police 2 weeks ago I couldn’t talk to a real person! I have finally managed to fill in an online form today.

I have once again contacted Asda customer care and got nowhere.
I have emailed the CEO and had no reply.
I have tweeted them and had no response.
I went onto their Facebook page but you can only comment on their posts, not start a thread.
My insurers said that if I go through then, they will treat it as a (my) fault claim.

I am completely tied by this and am getting madder and madder with each passing day!

What can I do?

Daily Mail, if you’re reading this, go ahead and print it!

@StoneofDestiny

Can't understand why the police are not taking this seriously as a hit and run!
In my experience the police don't give a shit about accidents where nobody was injured.

Someone drove into me once and took off my wing mirror and failed to stop - I reported it to the police who just said "there's no CCTV there so nothing we can do about it" Hmm

PassionPeach · 01/03/2021 23:22

As someone who has worked in security for retail, you are 100% legally entitled access to that CCTV, as it pertains to an accident involving your property. If you are visible in the CCTV it also strengthens this, as anyone is allowed access to footage that features their likeness. They are putting the brakes on as they probably cba with dealing with your claim, but keep pushing. Complain to local papers, write a strongly worded letter or phone them constantly. Do not let this go. They're all absolute fuckers with situations like this.

Thanks for all the tips and advice. I’m hopeful that the amount of noise I have made might well help.
I wonder if it’s worth linking to the post here or linking the Twitter feed?

Name and shame on Twitter. They hate that! Grin

This happened to DP, sort of. A van hit his car when he was stood next to it. His own insurer paid him out (comprehensive policy) and took his car away. They do this and then recover from the other insurer, or they should do.

But they then did nothing and gave him the run around, pretending to have 'not received' endless statements and photographs that DP sent them. DP was having to declare and pay the extra cost of having a 'fault' claim on his record, this went on for about 2 years.

When he finally realised he was getting nowhere, the pandemic got in the way and it seems that the insurers don't bother to go after each other as it's not worth the admin to them for smallish claims, he used the Moneysavingexpert resolver service and got paid out within about 2 weeks.

Was going to say moneysavingexpert too

Just a quick update...
Asda’s insurance company rang me this morning and in less than a 10 minute phone call had provided me a link to upload my videos and photos to them.
He viewed them there and then and agreed that they are liable and said all would passed across to their repairers.
The repairers rang less than an hour later and don’t have any garages closer than 80 miles away so I have taken it to my local repairers (who know my poor abused car very well) who will send off their quote and get my car repair very shortly!

Great update op!! Pretty shit that it had to take your friend to call them out on social media though!

See the AMA from the COVID Police Officer.

That’s why.

OlympicProcrastinator · 04/03/2021 18:45

Great update! I was about to say I would pursue this through the small claims. With your evidence I would be claiming for damages and as soon as they received the letter they would have done something. If not, you could have gone ahead with the claim without them, in which case would automatically be settled in your favour, waited for them not to pay then have great enjoyment sending bailiffs into their business premises. Grin

But they’ve seen the light so that’s a good outcome for you.

Contact your mp

notdaddycool · 04/03/2021 19:34

Seen your update, don’t contact your mp

That is super news Smile Well done , you have been brilliant . And I'm so glad that Asda have accepted this and helped resolve this/ admit liability
MrsClatterbuck · 04/03/2021 21:23

Glad this has been sorted. My DM had her car hit in an Asda car park by a young guy pushing trollies. They admitted liability but mum had to sort out getting it repaired. I thought once we had got a quote they would liaise with the repair guy but we had to pay them and then she was paid the money from Asda. We could have used one of the higher quotes and then got someone cheaper to do it and pocketed the difference.
