Enjoying a Bath

Ladywinesalot · 27/02/2021 20:34

Ok I’m fully expecting to be told IABU, but I just don’t get the thing of having a Bath has a leisurely activity.
As in when ppl light candles, read a book and have a glass of wine in the Bath (shudders)

For some reason it makes me feel really vulnerable and aware of my nakedness. And I don’t like my boobs floating around!

When I was younger and before I had kids I was quite flat chested be didn’t mind a soak for a wash, but now my boobs are saggy I feel yuck in the Bath.

But I love my showers and shower daily!

So, Aibu about how pointless taking a Bath as a leisure activity?

Obviously some people love them, but YANBU to not see the appeal. I don't either! I loved playing the in the bath as a child, but once I was old enough that I started taking showers, I never looked back. I find baths boring and uncomfortable, compared to showers.

DH and I even went so far as to remove the tub from our bathroom. The shower is all we want and need, and in the space we freed up by taking out the tub we now have extra storage for linens and toiletries/medicines, a place to sit down, and a pretty plant on a stand. So much better than a bathtub that was never used!

NiceGerbil · 27/02/2021 20:50

Middlesex it was a generalisation and an observation.

I could have been clearer that it's not a universal truth!

isadorapolly · 27/02/2021 20:51

@NiceGerbil

I find them dull as well.

I think a lot of the of thing about women loving baths is about getting away from the family.

I note that men's leisure activities are all about proper hobbies.

Women's are about getting away, usually combined with grooming (hairdresser, beautician etc) or making useful things (knitting crafting etc).

Interesting that.

This is so true, but I still like baths! Smile
@cardibach .I now have bath envy , I did not know there was such a thing Grin
@AlCalavicci I’m renovating. It was a January sale purchase. Around £300 instead of £1500 😳 Costs almost that to fill it though...
It’s fabulous. Nearly die getting in and out but it’s a price worth paying. I’m 5’10” by the way, not a titchy being...

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 27/02/2021 20:55

It is the only room in my house with a lock so quite frankly a bath is a good excuse for some peace and quiet!

Ladywinesalot · 27/02/2021 20:57

Thank you fir all your brill responses, I had no idea that starting a thread on liking and not likening a bath would set so many ppl off!

I’m actually laughing at some of the responses
@MoroSun you win for the most stupidest response 😂

I was just airing my thoughts, not judging anyone.

Yeah so if you enjoy chilling in the Bath with a wine, I’m really happy for you! I prob just jelous I don’t get the same enjoyment.

I look forward to reading more abusive responses to this “thought” shared tonight.
@Ladywinesalot YABU! I LOVE a bath. Candles, aromatherapy, soft music playing........ bliss. Grin
Now that sounds like it should be heavenly, but I know if I tried it I’d get irritated.

Maybe I need a nicer bathroom...

I just find them really boring and don't see the point.

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 27/02/2021 21:00

So, Aibu about how pointless taking a Bath as a leisure activity?

Roughly as pointless as starting a thread about it!

And it's only written "Bath" when you're talking about the city near Bristol...

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/02/2021 21:01

God, I love a bath. This afternoon I had a bath for two hours while DP was “at football” (live stream for season ticket holders) and it was super. Loads of bubbles, Grazia magazine, then my kindle. Sheet ,ask at the end. I like them boiling hot, so no wine, but I had a can of Diet Coke!

I’d never have a bath to get clean, for me they are 100% a leisure activity. I understand people not liking them, much in the same way I dislike knitting or running.

Lurcherloves · 27/02/2021 21:01

I love a bath, I think it’s the combination of heat and water I just find it so relaxing. I like to read or do some mindfulness exercises and really kind of recharge. Also you can get nice bubble bath or some kind of aromatherapy. Perfect

SplendidSuns1000 · 27/02/2021 21:01

I love the idea of a bubbly bath with wine, a book, some quiet music etc but the second I get in I think of 79 different things I could be doing and 65 more comfortable places to sit. Baths are the watery equivalent of sitting on a squishy sofa in a formal setting- they're awkward and uncomfy and I feel exposed.

CharlotteRose90 · 27/02/2021 21:03

I have a 7ft bath and absolutely adore. I love reading in it or listening to music: no candles or wine though. Fill it with bubbles so you don’t see your chest. Then enjoy in peace.

What an idiotic generalisation. And not even remotely true. Just in my immediate family (two adult children, me, my husband), the women's hobbies consist of: Ceramics, piano x2, reading x2 gardening, baking (not the occasional lemon drizzle loaf- but proper French patisserie), swimming, cycling, music production, writing, puzzles (cryptic crosswords, trivia, etc).

My best friend swims in the sea daily. My sister-in-law plays Netball on a team. Are those proper hobbies?

For the men in my family, hobbies consist of:
Video games, reading, running x2... and that's it.

INTERESTING, THAT.

@LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour
Don’t be such a nasty fecker.

Who appointed you the police of what to start a thread on or not?

Go work on your manners before you tell me to work on my grammar.

I’ve got into baths during lockdown as more time, and it’s done wonders for my skin. I’ll def keep it up. Skin much softer all over and sorted my feet.

JCWildWest · 27/02/2021 21:06

I was never really a fan but since lockdown it’s my go to thing to relax. Glass of wine, podcast on and unwind Wine

AlCalavicci · 27/02/2021 21:06

@cardibach,
Ok so not only did you get it for a fantastic price , but at 5 inches taller than me you can still lie down in it ! Ya know a body could really fall out with some people on here Grin

Umm if you happen to notice a stranger walking up and down the streets near you carrying a buddle of towels , a can of cider and a book just point them in the right direction would you please Blush Grin

hollyhope · 27/02/2021 21:07

A bath with a couple of handfuls of magnesium flakes in it is really helping my sleep problems.

Ohh I’m starting to want to try a bath with lots of bubbles now...

I love baths. I have one every evening. Hugely relaxing and warm and comforting.
I dislike showers- uncomfortable- you’ve got to stand up - and exposing . They’re a chore you do efficiently to get them out of the way, whereas baths are luxurious leisure.

Franpan · 27/02/2021 21:09

I love the bath. Not for hours but it is lovely and relaxing.

MyLittleOrangutan · 27/02/2021 21:10

YABU I love a bath. But I like being naked and in water. I read or play on my phone, with a cuppa or a cider and sometimes a snack.

Spidder · 27/02/2021 21:13

I always think I'll like it, but I think it takes me longer to fill it than to sit in it. And I always need to shower after cos I feel manky and sweaty.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 27/02/2021 21:15

Having plenty of bubbles is key I think. I don't like seeing my naked body so much either.
