To ask what time is tea time?

I'm in the north (I'm not British though) a local supplier is making a delivery to me tomorrow - she has asked if 'tea-time' suits me for delivery.

What time is tea-time please?

Answers on a postcard! (I'll be home all day due to lockdown anyway!)

3.30-4pm.

Crunchymum · 27/02/2021 20:07

Evening meal time (5pm-7pm)

ShowOfHands · 27/02/2021 20:08

I reckon they mean around 5pm.

I eat dinner at 7-8pm ish but my northern relatives refer to tea time and generally mean 5pm ish.

Crunchymum · 27/02/2021 20:09

Caveat to say I'm not Northern nor have I ever used the term tea time (its breakfast, lunch and dinner for me!)

GreenSlide · 27/02/2021 20:09

To us tea time is 3pm when you have a cup of tea and a bun. But I think she means 5-6pm.

FelicityBob · 27/02/2021 20:10

5-6pm. Anything before then is the afternoon. Anything after is the evening

HangOnToYourself · 27/02/2021 20:12

Tea is just dinner here so between 5-7

Bettyboop82 · 27/02/2021 20:13

Yes I’d say around 5pm. I’m as northern as a Whippet wearing a flat cap eating a pie.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 27/02/2021 20:14

5pm.

kittycorner · 27/02/2021 20:15

I'd say tea time is 4-5 ish, maybe 5:30-6 but not much after 6 or I think she'd say after teatime/evening.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 27/02/2021 20:15

4pm. Dinner time is 8pm

littlepattilou · 27/02/2021 20:15

@customwatkins

5.30-6pm here...

Won't be long before the 'meal time snobs' come on here though, telling you it's DINNER and not tea, and no-one in THEIR social circle has 'DINNER' until al least 8pm. (With a snide comment thrown in the mix like 'most middle class and above people, have it later than 7.30pm,) as a nice little dig at people.) Wink

Glitterblue · 27/02/2021 20:15

5-6ish

Chunkymenrock · 27/02/2021 20:17

4-6pm

WonkyCactus · 27/02/2021 20:18

I think 5pm-6pm too.

Lindy2 · 27/02/2021 20:19

I think it will mean early evening so probably around 5-6pm. I'd be prepared for it to be a bit earlier or later though so potentially 4-7pm.

ofwarren · 27/02/2021 20:19

As a northerner I would take that as meaning between 5-6pm

MagdasMadHouse · 27/02/2021 20:22

Somewhere between 5pm and 6pm ish
I'd expect 7pm latest

Stroppyshite · 27/02/2021 20:23

Between 4.30 and 5pm

LongIslandIcedT · 27/02/2021 20:24

5-6.30pm

iwanteggfriedricefuckingpronto · 27/02/2021 20:25

7/7:30... but tea is a light evening meal following an early dinner

iwanteggfriedricefuckingpronto · 27/02/2021 20:26

And by early I mean a Sunday lunch (2ish) or say an afternoon meal out or large lunch

ChameleonClara · 27/02/2021 20:28

Evening meal, it ranges from 4pm to 630pm here.

Daffodil29 · 27/02/2021 20:38

I’m from West Yorkshire and she means “evening meal” time. Most people I know round here have their main meal around 6-7pm. 😌

40grump7 · 27/02/2021 20:40

Evening meal - 5-6pm for us!
