How hairy are you and what do you use?

I'm not that hairy. But I'm pale and was blessed with dark hair. I have always had hairy thighs etc. Including inner thighs!
The backs of my thighs seem to grow corse hairs too. They are horrible and make me feel I can't wear skirts etc. Also I get hair around my nipples but I pluck that out? Again anyone else? I get a little below my belly button too.

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep up with it?

I don't seem to have any problems. I have had children and blood tests over the years. Nothing indicates there's an issue.

Tia.

Hi, I feel your pain. I am mixed English, Mediterranean, Hispanic and middle Eastern so I never stood a chance, ha. but my skin is also pale so it really shows up 😂
Here's what I do:
Face - threading every 4/6 weeks, bleach in-between if it gets a problem. You won't need to spend much money on this, I spend £15 in London for face including eyebrows.
Armpits - shave, almost daily
Nipples - check in the shower and tweeze any new ones
Tummy / groin / upper thighs - Brazilian wax and bleach upper thighs in-between
Lower legs - shave in shower
Hands and feet - I'll buy wax strips occasionally and just do it myself
Arms - done it once or twice but I don't bother so much

I use conditioner instead of shaving foam / gel it's cheaper and works really well. Do it first thing in the shower so you can spend the rest of the time washing it off.
I go to a south Asian beautician in London who is amazingly priced, very understanding of my problem and shapes the most amazing eyebrows. I go every 6 weeks for several hours and get my head hair done at the same time, it gets it al out the way!

Interesting to see what everyone else does

I'm the same as you and for me a Phillips lumea has been amazing - not completely hairless but I can get away with shaving my legs once a fortnight rather than them feeling prickly by the end of the day (use it every 2 weeks) and the little bit below my belly button disappeared totally after a few zaps!

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 27/02/2021 08:31

I use Braun Epil 9 all over my body. Seems to do the job efficiently and effectively. I use it around once a month.

I use a different epilator for my face. Use that weekly.

I love epilating! It's easy and cheap! Grin

LakieLady · 27/02/2021 08:32

I was monstrously hairy, my legs got a five o'clock shadow.

But I got a Lumea a few years ago and my legs (including inner thighs) are virtually hair free now. My armpits just sprout a few tufts in one area on each side, every few months.

I use it on my face, too (sadly, the early Lumeas didn't come with the little attachments for doing your face, so it's a bit tricky) and the difference is massive. I just have 4 or 5 stubborn buggers that seem to be resistant.

It was life-changing and worth every penny.

Glitterb · 27/02/2021 08:33

Waxing and a Lumea will probably be your saving grace! If I use these methods combined then I barely have to bother anymore
It may not completely get rid of hair but it will help a lot!

whatswithtodaytoday · 27/02/2021 08:37

You sound perfectly normal, women grow hair in the same places as men - it's just finer and lighter, and usually doesn't grow as much.

Personally I use a Lumea on my chin all year, and on my underarms and legs in the summer. Shave my legs and bikini line, leave the rest.

FTMF30 · 27/02/2021 08:37

Following as I've tweezed a few chin hairs and they've come back with a vengeance. The hairs are dark and thick. I'm dreading coming out of lockdown.

Like @LakieLady I got a lumea. It was life changing. Worth every penny. Saves me hours of epilation.

Munkeenut · 27/02/2021 08:53

I am the same. I have pcos but its not traceable in my blood tests but is visible in scans of ovaries. I have thick black course hair and am very pale. The hair grows back within an hour or so of shaving. I have a lumea but never used it as haven't had any time without kids around to get some.l time to safely use it (theyre up all evening and wander in and out of bathroom). Perhaps when schools go back I'll try to get some time to descretly do it during a work call!

User1511 · 27/02/2021 08:55

I have hairy man arms

M0rT · 27/02/2021 08:58

I was once asked by a Greek beautician if I was half Greek because my body hair was just like hers! I'm Irish as far back as I know but pale skinned with black hair, everywhere!
It even grew back after chemo. Except my eyebrows, where I would want it.
I used to wax legs, bikini, tummy strip and shave underarm.
Then I got an epilator and while it's more time consuming then shaving the regrowth is much slower and I have bald patches on my legs from years of use. I think it's the cheapest option as I have had my epilator for nearly 10 years.
In the winter I let it all go though and the recent sunshine has reminded me I need to get back on it again.

grey12 · 27/02/2021 08:59

Not super hairy

Legs and feet: waxing in salon (hairy for now!)
Privates: shave
Armpits: pluck (used to use strips)
Upper lip: same as armpits
Eyebrows: pluck
Arms and belly: occasionally bleach (looks good! No need to remove hair at all. Hair is thin and straight. I even have quite hairy fingers and when I bleach you could hardly tell)

Bluedoor11 · 27/02/2021 09:01

Same here. I use an epilator and it works really well! I also have a fairly hairy back though... anyone with advice for that? It’s not thick but I’m very pale so it is very noticeable ...

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 27/02/2021 09:05

I shave my shins/calves and under my arms.
Leave my lady garden alone

Don't have hair anywhere else

Munkeenut · 27/02/2021 09:13

I do have an epilator but it makes each hair follicle (or whatever the hole is called where the hair comes out) bright red and irritated for about a week, and by then the hair has started to regrow so I've given up with it because unless I want to look like I've got measles it's not really an option.

FTMF30 · 27/02/2021 09:27

@Girlmum2020 Do you possibly have a link to the exact product you use? Or details of the model? I searched Lumea epilator but a few products came up.

MariaAngustias · 27/02/2021 09:32

The price of laser treatment has gone down a lot in the last few years - if you are hair invest in a few sessions on your legs, bikini line and underarms or buy at DIY laser (if you have patience). I am pale and had dark hairs - best investment ever getting them blasted away

I use an epilator and have done for many years. It is brilliant and as someone else mentioned there are bald patches on legs now from continual use!

You get different heads on them to use in different areas - legs, arms, bikini, face etc.

As for any of the dreaded chin hairs I always tweeze! More satisfaction that way as well!

If you epilate then I would recommend exfoliating as well as sometimes it can lead to some ingrown hairs - same as waxing. I had that on bottom of my legs but soon resolved.

I don't feel it now but the first time it was ouch but used to it now so doesn't hurt at all

FTMF30 · 27/02/2021 10:17

@Girlmum2020 Oh right, ok. Thank you Smile.

honeylulu · 27/02/2021 11:25

I had my legs, armpits, bikini and perianal region lasered a few years ago when I got a 6 session groupon deal. The results were amazing. The legs and armpits were painless though I'd been waxing my legs and bikini line for years so the hair was quite sparse there.

I bottled out of having as much of the labia done as I wanted (I'd planned on leaving just the small Brazilian style triangle at the front) because it was painful in that area. The skin needs to be pulled as flat as possible and it's hard to manage that on one's curvy bits. I wish I'd been a bit braver because the I felt less and less with each session.

In the areas I had done I had a few stubborn but wispy hairs left which I'd wax off once a month.

A couple of months ago I got a Veme pulsed light machine. It's a cheaper version of the lumea. I've used it to go over the stragglers on my legs, pits and bikini and it's been very effective. I also decided to be brave and have a go at the upper labia region. You have to shave the area first and then zap. The machine has 5 intensity settings and I started off at 1 until I got the hang of it better.

Again its fiddly because you need to pull the skin as flat as possible or it can come into contact with the heated glass of the lamp. I did this a lot at first (it's not dangerous; just a split second of "ow that's hot") but I'm much more adept now and maybe only do it once a session.

As it's a small area it really only takes 5 minutes but I only do it when I'm not rushing or tired because I do need to concentrate for the reasons above (and be sure no one will come barging in as I'm often in not very elegant positions). You are supposed to do it every 3 days for a month then drop to once a week but I've only managed once a week at the weekend as my weekdays are crazy busy. Even so after 8 weeks I'm seeing a difference. It's probably helped that I've gone up to intensity level 5. The hair there was very dense (and had never been waxed) but it's now sparse and growing more slowly so I will keep going.

My legs and pits I just give a quick going over once a month. This is recommended even if the area is smooth because layering isn't guaranteed to last forever.

Sorry if this is TMI but when I was reading about pulsed light machines this is the sort of stuff I really wanted to know!

MMMarmite · 27/02/2021 11:29

Very, and nothing. Which might explain why Grin

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 27/02/2021 11:31

Not hairy, blond hair so I only need to shave everything once a week if I can be bothered, epilators are the work of satan, I almost lost my skin with one of those things.

FieldOverFence · 27/02/2021 11:32

I'm so jealous of people that can use a lumea... I'm pale skinned with blond hair, but that grows quite thickly on upper lip & chin. Use wax strips but the find the upper lip hella painful!
Shave armpits (though that gets irritated sometimes) shave calves when I can be bothered or am wearing skirts (not that often). Leave the lady garden in its natural statr
