How hairy are you and what do you use?

I'm not that hairy. But I'm pale and was blessed with dark hair. I have always had hairy thighs etc. Including inner thighs!
The backs of my thighs seem to grow corse hairs too. They are horrible and make me feel I can't wear skirts etc. Also I get hair around my nipples but I pluck that out? Again anyone else? I get a little below my belly button too.

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep up with it?

I don't seem to have any problems. I have had children and blood tests over the years. Nothing indicates there's an issue.

Tia.

I'd love a lumea but read they dont work on red hair 😪 I get thick red ones on my outer jaw near and use a Hollywood browzer. I love it. I also pluck a few nipple hairs

ShinyMe · 27/02/2021 11:38

Ha. I stopped shaving in the first lockdown and haven't bothered since. I like my Hairy armpits.

FireflyRainbow · 27/02/2021 12:11

Tanned skin, dark course hair. I'm sooo hairy I've had a razor since I was 10

Totallyfedup1979 · 27/02/2021 12:16

I’m very hairy (ugh). It’s great in one way, because I’m in my early forties and my head hair is very long, very thick and very dark. It makes me look much younger...

But from the eyebrows down it’s a nightmare!

If I don’t wax weekly, I’d grow a moustache.

My underarms, legs and pubic regions Blush all have to be shaved daily - twice - and I get through a full 8 pack of Gillette Venus razors to do this daily.

My hair is sooooo thick and coarse on my legs, waxing is terribly painful and snaps much of the hair, leaving thick stubble.

When I spoke to the lady who waxes, I explained my leg hair type and she said she’d seen it all. I was advised 5 weeks growth and when I came back for waxing, she said ‘oh, I’ve never seen hair quite this thick’. Hmm
She advised three weeks until the next wax (my hair grows fast) and she couldn’t believe how much hair I had considered I’d been waxed.
Waxing was painful and I still couldn’t go out with my legs showing.

Epilating takes forever and again is beyond my pain tolerance.

Sugaring and hair removal creams do NOTHING at all.

Shaving is the only thing that does it, but if I shave in the morning, by 3pm my legs are stubbly and scratchy. So I do it again around 7pm, so I can sleep comfortably.

I bought a Phillips lumea which cost nearly £500 and did nothing after a years use.

I resorted to paying over £2000 for a years worth of proper laser surgery at Harley MC. They told me that the lumea was one type of laser...but THIS was another!
One year later and appointments every 6 weeks .................................. Nothing.

So I spend thousands on razors every year now instead. If anyone has any helpful advice I’d appreciate it as this gets me down.

I can’t embrace the hair, it gets to about an inch long and is so thick and dark you can’t hardly see my skin through it! My husband is always shocked when I grow it out for waxing.

Sorry, I think I went off on a tangent...good to get this off my chest lol.

LakieLady · 27/02/2021 13:35

@Munkeenut

I do have an epilator but it makes each hair follicle (or whatever the hole is called where the hair comes out) bright red and irritated for about a week, and by then the hair has started to regrow so I've given up with it because unless I want to look like I've got measles it's not really an option.
That happened to me when I used my friend's epilator to see if it was any good.

I also found it very painful, and I'm not usually a wuss!

I have deep-rooted hair and sensitive skin though. When I had my bikini line waxed years ago, I bled where some of the hairs were ripped out and the beautician said she didn't think I should have it done again. It was sore for several days.

The thought of having a full Hollywood makes me wince and cross my legs. Not that I need one. I had no idea, but pubes start to thin as you ager (I'm 65) and what was my bush is down to a few sprigs now.

CamborneMaid · 27/02/2021 14:40

@Totallyfedup1979
I'm exactly the same...apart from I'm jealous of your head hair,mine is really fine and mousey ginger :(
But I have dark,thick body hair(even my backside is hairier than my boyfriends) Razors cost me a small fortune and my legs never look or feel like I've actually shaved them.
I never wear shorts or short dresses in the summer,its quite depressing.
I dread shaving,its such a chore and often feels pointless. They're not smooth,they're stubbly,itchy and I usually end up with a shaving rash on my bikini line and thighs.
I've left them grow for the last few weeks,its been lovely to not bother with it, but they now look like my dads legs and I know at some point I will have to buy some razors..(alot of them) :(

Totallyfedup1979 · 27/02/2021 14:56

@CamborneMaid

It’s awful isn’t it. I do keep my legs smooth by shaving; but it is labour intensive and takes up hours of my time:

  1. Bath and shave x 1 razor
  2. Rub in lotion and shave until smooth x 3 razors at least
  3. Allow lotion to dry and feel for any remaining stubble. Dry shave off. (Lucky I don’t have sensitive skin). X 1 razor
This process takes about an hour minimum. I have to do this twice a day.

I cannot bear stubble. So I am unable to say ‘fuck it’ and grown the hair anyway. My ocd will not allow it, so I’m stuck 😢

I had a twisted ovary once and had to go to hospital. They said it was because of cysts(?) after a scan. I didn’t really understand. I wonder if I have PCOS, but I’m reasonably slim and active and my GP told me I would be more likely to be overweight. I don’t know how true this is?
I also have extremely irregular periods...1 every 6 weeks is usual, sometimes I’ll skip a few, but I’ve gone a full year without one.
My husband and I have never used contraption, but I’ve only gotten pregnant once in my 20’s. Never since and we have a very regular sex life.
I think it’s all linked somehow? Hormones. I just wish I could take a pill or something, to stop the hair growing so thick...as you say, it’s depressing and does impact on your life.

Totallyfedup1979 · 27/02/2021 14:59

Oh and no need to feel jealous of my hair. It takes hours to dry and style. Never holds curls, is poker straight. And when I go on vacation somewhere hot and humid, it literally grows and fluffs up to comedy levels. No amount of anti-humidity spray or serum helps. My hair cannot be styled abroad.

CamborneMaid · 27/02/2021 16:03

@Totallyfedup1979

I think I've just run out of patience and I have sensitive skin,which doesn't help.
I'm sorry to hear about your other troubles. I don't know very much about PCOS, I've not heard of it being linked to weight before though.
I just blame my dad for passing on his hairy genes.

My hair also doesn't like humidity..I often resemble Worzel Gummidge on holiday Grin(and at home if I'm totally honest lol)

purplebagladylovesgin · 27/02/2021 16:17

@Mufflete

I'm the same as you and for me a Phillips lumea has been amazing - not completely hairless but I can get away with shaving my legs once a fortnight rather than them feeling prickly by the end of the day (use it every 2 weeks) and the little bit below my belly button disappeared totally after a few zaps!
I can also recommend this. Easy to use at home. The hair is shaved first and the pulse travels down the internal hair shaft to the root. It doesn't work so well with much darker skin as it's the pigment that transports the pulse. So dark hair in lighter skin is perfect for good results.
Desmondo2016 · 27/02/2021 16:25

Phillips Lumea here. Legs, bikini, arms, armpits now hair free with a top up lumea session every couple months - I wear gym/running kit most days and genuinely don't need to do any hair removal.

Eyebrows have been microwaved to fill in patches so a ten minute pluck every three days or so.
Upper lip I use an epicare twisty thing which is fabulous and I also have a facial epilator for a quick attack.

Cheek bones (cringe) get lumead or plucked when I notice the odd dark hair.

Hair removal used to consume my life and I can't belive how much happier I am these days. The Lumea is life transforming. I probably spend 45 minutes once every 2 months on that and then less than 30 minutes in total a week on everything else.

Hair removal used

MeadowHay · 27/02/2021 16:30

I'm v hairy and have similar hair in all the areas you mention. I never keep on top of all of it, I don't have time with a young child. There's nothing "wrong" with me either, I'm half middle-eastern and it's just genetics. Generally I tweeze nipple hairs, shave belly hairs with a razor. Calves and feet/toes I use an electric ladyshaver. Epilator for underarms. Face I get threaded (well, when it's allowed these days!), using JML Flawless in-between/tweezing random rouge hairs. Pubes just get trimmed short with a bikini trimmer and shave around them so it's tidy and not full of rogue hairs that are miles away, I'm more attentive to this in summer when I want to wear shorts and short dresses/skirts. Only in the summer I shave all my legs and feet when I want to wear shorts etc. Gosh writing it down makes me realize how much of my life I spend on it, grim. I definitely do envy people who aren't hairy.

earlyforties · 27/02/2021 16:34

I'm pale & had very course dark hair. I got laser treatment done on my legs about 10 years ago. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I then had my bikini line & underarms done & I'm now having my lip hair & chin hair removed. It expensive but totally worth it.

MeadowHay · 27/02/2021 16:35

Is a Lumea painful? I've wanted one for years but we are a low income family so the price tag is steep and I'm worried it would hurt? I have pale skin and dark hair so the target audience for one I guess.

Creioz · 27/02/2021 16:36

I have pcos and incredibly hair Sad all over chin, back, stomach, boobs and then the usual places like legs.
I shave pretty much everywhere, use vaniqa cream on face and use a Phillips laser on everywhere I can reach.

PickAChew · 27/02/2021 16:37

Similar colouring and hairiness to you. As mobility/flexibility has made shaving increasingly difficult, I invested in a lumea which has got rid of most of it on my legs.

Never waxed beyond the once or twice as that meant living with dark stubble, most of the time.

I just let it keep my legs warm in winter, mind!

PickAChew · 27/02/2021 16:46

@Meadowhay i just feel like I've been in the sun too long (aka 5 minutes, with pale skin!) , after using it, but that soon goes away. It stings my knees, though, and I've never quite got rid of the hair on them.

Onemorefortheroad · 27/02/2021 16:51

Feel your pain. I'm the hairiest person ever with really sensitive skin ☹️

Shave legs, get underarms waxed (usually), use Veet for bikini area and top lip waxed.

The hair on my face is getting worse and is becoming all over. The bikini area is just so covered in hair that it's basically down my legs 🙈 and although I use Veet, it hurts for days afterwards and is so itchy.

I'm curious about this Lumea that people mention, will have to do some research!

The only place I find it painful is labia area. Not including bikini line - that's fine as is pubis area. Legs, arms, pits and face no pain at all.
Dontsayfuckorbugger · 27/02/2021 18:27

I'm a red head so hairs are very light. I have grown my leg hair before and no one noticed. I shave my armpits the rest of me is if i can be bothered
