Is this a lot to drink?

So. DH doesn't drink at home. He doesn't like it. I like wine. I often drink a bottle a week. Sometimes more if we go out or have friends around (back when we could 😭)

So it ends up being 1 or 2 glasses 2 nights a week. Sometimes a cheeky third glass sneaks in but I always regret it in the morning 🤕. This happens about once every few weeks.

Is that a lot?

I'm on my 3rd glass tonight 🤷.

LST · 26/02/2021 20:15

I only real feel rough if I start drinking rum and coke with dp. And the coke makes my teeth feel fluffy

Christmasfairy2020 · 26/02/2021 20:16

So what wine is everyone drinking?

sbhydrogen · 26/02/2021 20:16

Sounds normal to me 🤣

crystalcherry87 · 26/02/2021 20:18

No I don't think it's a lot. I drink about once a week and I'll have about a bottle and a half.

Jam Shed. I only got it the first time because it came with a free glass Grin

I drink far more. I think quite a few people do with the current everyday stress of doing so much. Constant juggling of several roles.

Not currently as I’m preg but favourite ever wine is Jammy Roo. Hasn’t ever disappointed and it’s less than a tenner.
TheEasterBunnies · 26/02/2021 20:29

@LST

Yep. Won't have anymore after this one. And I haven't had a drink since last Saturday
Ah, fair enough then. My DM does a bottle + every night. It's awful. Now that really is a lot!
LST · 26/02/2021 20:32

I could! Quite easily but I don't. I was getting a few glasses down a night during lockdown but I stopped. Dp goes bargin booze on a Friday now instead to stop temptation 🙈

LApprentiSorcier · 26/02/2021 20:36

It sounds as though you usually stay well within the recommended 14 units a week and drink them over a few days, so based on current guidelines, there's nothing wrong at all with what you drink.

katy1213 · 26/02/2021 20:40

That's barely a sniff of the barmaid's apron!

Hollowtree3 · 26/02/2021 20:43

It sounds normal and fine to me, you like wine, you like how it makes you feel and while you may not be sticking to exact government guidelines, most of the population don’t manage to either on: alcohol, salt, fat, calories and everything else. Or actually on average income, or accepted Covid behaviour etc

SideEyeing · 26/02/2021 20:47

God. If only I had that level of restraint!

thripp · 26/02/2021 20:48

A bottle a week.

Ah.

I thought you were going to say a bottle a night. That would be a lot.

alexdgr8 · 26/02/2021 20:49

i think many esp middle class people drink too much but won't recognise that it is unhealthy for them, so they say it's ok.
you have to make your own mind up.

NotYourHolidayDick · 26/02/2021 20:52

I drink a bottle a night. A bottle a week indeed Grin

TheCanyon · 26/02/2021 21:05

I think this is the first drinking thread I've seen in ages that the ops not been roasted. Congrats @OnSilverStars I'm about to have my last glass out a bottle, might even open the second.

OnSilverStars · 26/02/2021 21:09

Back in my twenties I could have a bottle before going out out. Now in my 30s with DCs I'm a shadow of my former self.

I've had my three glasses tonight, switched to water an hour or two ago, now bath and bed feeling quite please with my non alcoholic self!

For a lot of people 2 or 3 glasses a night is normal! I personally rarely drink because I don't care for anything much, and I'd rather eat my calories Grin. I live in a house of adults where every night someone is having something and I'm being offered, so I'd say it is normal. Others might think differently.

Rather than worrying about quantity, understand if you are simply enjoying the taste or if you find yourself reliant on having that amount every night? There's a diff between having a bottle a week because you loveee the taste and it makes your evenings special, but different if you need it to get through the week x

dementedma · 26/02/2021 21:22

A bottle a week? Jesus, my liver would be happy if I could get down to that!

Wishitsnows · 26/02/2021 21:23

No

AprilThe8th · 26/02/2021 21:23

I have one bottle on a Friday

sanfranfibber · 26/02/2021 21:33

@Userg1234

No. Admittedly I am a man but last night was 4 bottles of beer and a whole white wine bottle. Tonight 2 beers, bottle of red and I expect a short. Tomorrow and Sunday the same. And I drink a lot less than my friends
No OP it's not a lot.

But that is a lot User

EachBleachBlairTrump · 26/02/2021 21:36

I barely drink anymore, pregnancy followed by a year of no sleep and BF killed what was a very enjoyable habit, I've had 2 glasses of wine (1 third wine 2 thirds soda) and one beer since Christmas, and even I don't think you drink a lot OP!
