My boyfriend just called me his ex wife’s name

My boyfriend of nearly a year just called me his ex-wife’s name in the middle of having sex.

My rational side says it’s just a brain fart, it’s habit for him to say her name. My less rational side is freaking out.

What would you make of this?

Easy slip up to make imo.

I get dd and the cat mixed up.

My DH has done this.
It tends to be when he's either very tired or grumpy though.
He mostly now sticks with "the Wife", just in case the odd "Carol" pops out by accident.

I've never called OH an ex boyfriends name, but I have accidentally used one of the cats names a few times. The mental image of me moaning for the cat had us both in stitches laughing and very quickly ruined the mood.

If it's a one off event I'd chalk it up to a brain fart and try and laugh about it.

Don't get worked up about it.

Different context, but I remember as a child wondering WTF my mum kept calling me by her sister's name. Now I find myself using my brother's name for my son

Perhaps long term memory kicks in when you aren't really paying attention?

I've accidentally called DP my ex-BF's name a few times, even now we're a few years into our relationship. I absolutely adore DP and don't have any feelings for ex but we were together for a long time so it's almost like muscle memory. It's unfortunate that it happened to you during sex and if it became a regular thing I'd be concerned, but it almost definitely doesn't mean anything.

It is brain fart.
I use to be very conscious of slipping out my ex's name for along time with DP. I nearly failed a couple of times it was habit.
DP of 15 years calls me his female colleagues name in conversation, he spends 45 hours a week with her, they are similar names, he calls his colleague my name too.
They're only friends.
