I've seen so many people on here ranting about how they don't think the schools should open. Many even saying they won't follow any other rules anymore if they do.

AIBU to think they should just homeschool their DC then?

Do they not realise how badly this is affecting so many children and families? Do they not realise how many children have been having no education at all? Some parents are at breaking point trying to keep their jobs and make sure their children are doing some school work.

Homeschooling was always an option, even before covid so if you are so concerned then unlist them and provide their education yourself. We can't stay home forever.

@ipsandmore i don't need to start my own threAd it was a question relating to others and no one has said concrete what other countries have done .
Just they had other options , also you cannot always compare directly country to country , different facilities , demographic etc will all play a part.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 20:14

@ineedaholidaynow but neither of you have provided what they did when and in which way
Are they state run schools etc
Also not all countries can be compared like for like

Firstworddinosaur · 22/02/2021 20:15

HazeyJaneII I feel for you. My eldest has an EHCP too. These are such hard times.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 20:17

@donewithitalltodayandxmas if you are so desperate to know the full details why don't you google it. I don't care about the full details but I know I have read on here that some countries have offered it.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 20:21

@ineedaholidaynow I am not the one using it as an argument against things though am I ?
If I was to make a claim I would have evidence to back up and nit just something from off here as often you read something here and a person from that country comes on and says thats not the case.

lpsandmore · 22/02/2021 20:21

@HazeyJaneII the pp just proves to me how out of touch most people are to the world of SEN. Do people not realise the hoops you need to jump through the remove a child with an echp from a mainstream school? It's not even possible to do that with a child in a special school unless the LEA agrees. So no, people can't just deregister and move to homeschool.

hansgrueber · 22/02/2021 20:22

@Hazelnutlatteplease

Yep.

The next educational and health divide will be those that can afford to pull their kids out and use and home school provider and those that cant.

The cats out of the bag now. School in its cure format isnt the only way to learn. Turns out both of mine are significantly happier and healthier out.

If schools go back though no-one will be setting your children work to do at home , you'll be the one to sort it out.
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 22/02/2021 20:23

I totally agree.

Fair enough if you don't want your kids to return. Keep them home. but don't think that means MY kids shouldn't return.

Natwood9 · 22/02/2021 20:24

Absolutely agree OP , so sick of the ranting here

hansgrueber · 22/02/2021 20:24

@Firstworddinosaur

Why can't they give us the option to homeschool for a bit longer with no fine and keep our places? It would lighten the load for teachers and pupils in school too. I'm so so angry with this government, threatening to fine parents. Sickening.
How does it 'lighten the load' if teachers are teaching in school and beong expected to provide work for those at home?
MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/02/2021 20:26

@donewithitalltodayandxmas

Yes agree if I wasn't happy or vulneranble i would de register and homeschool All those on about blended learning when most classes have a fair amount of keyworkers in would be still larger classes Also if weather good schools can have more windows open , more outside time, aren't pupils in secondary now being tested along with having to wear masks and my ds school has other meaaures in place as no years mixing etc etc so there is some mitigation now in place
So if you were diagnosed it's blood cancer tomorrow (and I hope it goes without saying I hope you won't be), you'd just happily and meekly deregister your healthy children, & accept that they have to choose between their mum being in danger and their education?

Bollocks.

lpsandmore · 22/02/2021 20:27

@donewithitalltodayandxmas but that's literally what I said... it differs even within said countries so there will be people that come on and say no that's wrong just like here people had completely different experiences in different schools. And really, no one is using it as a main argument. Everyone on here would send their kids to a safe school. I am simply pointing out that a lot of countries have managed to have a system in place that accommodates different needs. Don't expect me to come at you saying next slide like I'm Chris witty with graphs comparing their offers. If you're so sure England couldn't offer that than fine. End of argument.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/02/2021 20:28

Once your child is de registered, you won't be fined.
As for choice, you do have a choice, homeschooling or sent DC to school.

If you decide further down the line homeschooling is not for you, your LA will have to find a place for your child.

But then, you fear that your child will have to attend a less popular school a bit further down the road. That is a choice only you can make! The same as the parents who want to see their children in school ASAP- even with the associated risk of bringing covid-19 home.
Perfect doesn't exist in this situation, just what you feel is best for your child & family.

I hope you never have to face the choices I have faced. You utter cretin.
Firstworddinosaur · 22/02/2021 20:29

I should have been clearer, lighten the load in terms of social distancing within the classroom. I wouldn't expect them to provide material, I've got more than enough to last the next few terms.

funinthesun19 · 22/02/2021 20:38

I hope you never have to face the choices I have faced. You utter cretin.

Why is she a cretin? Confused I really don’t understand your reaction to Ylvamoon’s post. She was just stating the facts.

Ylvamoon · 22/02/2021 20:43

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch - there is no need for abuse.

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 20:46

Miles you may have said already but can you have the vaccine?

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/02/2021 20:46

@Ylvamoon I heartily disagree

therealteamdebbie · 22/02/2021 20:49

I hope you never have to face the choices I have faced. You utter cretin.

when posters have to use insults it's generally that they ran out of argument but refuse to admit they are completely wrong.

You still have the choice. I know you meant to be so rude, but there's no need.

noblegiraffe · 22/02/2021 20:50

Miles Flowers you deserve better than idiots telling you how easy it all is.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/02/2021 20:51

@MarshaBradyo I've had the first vaccine, but Matt and co e-mailed the CEV to let us know that we should shield until at least March 21st regardless. The problem is, there's no hard data showing how effective vaccines are for people with dodgy immune systems (eg people with blood cancer), as they weren't in the studies.

So I'm now in a position where I'm told to shield until at least the end of March, but my children should go back to school in early March, with me staying away from them.

It's like a Black Mirror Carry On Film.

(Which I would watch).

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/02/2021 20:51

@noblegiraffe you are my favourite Thanks

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 20:52

But it's not a great choice is it @therealteamdebbie, the best choice for people in @MilesJuppIsMyBitch position is that they can homeschool their child for a while longer without penalty

splishsplashsploosh · 22/02/2021 20:55

I would like to keep mine home just until my partner and I ( both in our fifties) have had our vaccines, without any fear of fines etc. I don't want to homeschool permanently, just until we have some immunity. I don't think that's unreasonable. Many parents will be in the same position. We're not all in our 20s and 30s.

noblegiraffe · 22/02/2021 20:59

Honestly I can’t see how people can tritely trot out ‘just deregister and homeschool’ as if that isn’t a fucking huge, complex and emotional decision. Particularly if you are in the position of desperately keeping things as normal as you can for your kids for other, horrible reasons.
