I've seen so many people on here ranting about how they don't think the schools should open. Many even saying they won't follow any other rules anymore if they do.

AIBU to think they should just homeschool their DC then?

Do they not realise how badly this is affecting so many children and families? Do they not realise how many children have been having no education at all? Some parents are at breaking point trying to keep their jobs and make sure their children are doing some school work.

Homeschooling was always an option, even before covid so if you are so concerned then unlist them and provide their education yourself. We can't stay home forever.

I have no issues with schools reopening. It’s the way it’s being done that’s I have a problem with. All children back at once means no social distancing will he possible.

SirSamuelVimes · 22/02/2021 08:55

@Terfy

Totally agree OP. Ultimately, I don't want someone else's paranoia to hold my children back. We need to live with this.
Absolutely this.

If your dc are happier at home, homeschool them. Mine needs to be in school.

MoriParty · 22/02/2021 08:55

Totally agree, those who want to stay locked up can if they wish, assume it's the comfortably off sitting at home on their laptops who are happy to continue living like this. Meanwhile my 12 year old has been home alone all day every day for months because not all of us have the luxury of working from home.
Get the fucking schools open ffs.

PurpleDaisies · 22/02/2021 08:55

My point, however, was if those who disagree with all children going back to school decide to "fuck the rest of the rules" it won't be a clear indication on the impact of schools reopening.

The people who are concerned about schools are mostly concerned about the risk being too high. I’m not sure they’re the people who will be the ones ignoring the rules.

I take it you don't work in a school.

Year groups are not mixing at all with different year groups. If they are required to pass in the corridors (they aren't usually as lesson times are different for each year group to prevent this) they wear masks. They also have staggered start and finish times.

A staggered return honestly doesn't make any sense to those who have been in a school because different year groups are not mixing anyway.

I am a teacher. Year group bubbles in secondary schools are hundreds of pupils. Different year groups are on the same bus.

PurpleDaisies · 22/02/2021 09:00

Staggered start would mean you could put fewer children in each classroom.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 09:00

Do they have different buses for each year group @Mrgrinch?

greenlynx · 22/02/2021 09:00

Some people are worried about getting COVID because they have health issues or/and their DC have health issue and not all people with health issues are vaccinated yet. My DD and I is in group 6 and we are both not vaccinated yet, then you need 3 weeks for immunity to form. So obviously I’m really worried about her going back to school on 8th March.
I don’t believe that schools are completely safe. I’m not from outer space, I’ve seen the real schools. In some classes they are still sitting 2 at a table as there are no enough tables, corridors are narrow, and don’t get me start on PE changing rooms. Some students refuse to wear masks. So I want schools to reopen but I want it to be very cautious slow process as I’m worried about numbers. I don’t want them to be open all at once and at any costs. And for some people my position might look like I don’t want them to reopen but it’s not as simple as that.
Unfortunately there is no option for me to keep DD at home for next few weeks as going to school is compulsory. Otherwise I would. I know a lot of people who have children with health issues and in the same situation.

Jumpers268 · 22/02/2021 09:00

@PurpleDaisies oh I really wish that was the case. But I've heard a lot of people say that due to a perceived lack of social distancing in schools, why can't I go see, or do etc. Hopefully I'm wrong though and they're simply just saying this due to frustration, rather than actually intending to break the rules!

ISBN111 · 22/02/2021 09:01

It’s not much of a choice though, is it?

Mrgrinch · 22/02/2021 09:02

@ineedaholidaynow

Do they have different buses for each year group *@Mrgrinch*?
No, does public transport have different bubbles for each household?

Those are not the people that want schools back slowly. I’m sorry but it makes no sense that people who are worried about schools going back would suddenly start breaking rules. Plenty of others will see schools being back as an excuse to meet up-that’s what happened here anyway.

Mrgrinch · 22/02/2021 09:04

I'm shocked that you think this, as a teacher.

How would that work? Would each teacher take on double the amount of classes? They'd still need to be providing home provisions for those not in school.

How long would the rest have to stay at home? And then would all of those who have gone to a different teacher have to go back to their original one again?

That is an impossible suggestion.

I do home ed my children and (selfishly) want the schools back open so that my own children can start going back to groups etc which haven’t been running for nearly a year now.
I understand people’s concerns and I think that perhaps for those with vulnerable family members should be given some leeway but I do also broadly agree with you OP.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 09:06

Do you honestly think there will be no disruption in schools if everyone goes back in one go @Mrgrinch?

PracticingPerson · 22/02/2021 09:06

@FamilyOfAliens

I don’t get how you can ask people to understand your situation, and yet refuse to understand theirs?
Yes this.

I don’t have an axe to grind re schools as I don’t have a school aged child. Hospitals are still struggling though so don’t think that crisis is over.

Tinkywinkydinkydoo · 22/02/2021 09:09

They’re doing staggered start in Wales, the foundation phases are all returning this week on different days. Juniors and high schoolers are likely to start returning in 3 weeks

Mrgrinch · 22/02/2021 09:10

@PracticingPerson what exactly am I not being understanding about?

OP posts:
WholegrainCustard · 22/02/2021 09:10

Sending all children back into school all at once will be a disaster.
This isn’t doom and gloom predictions, this is looking at what happened at the end of last year.
No additional measures - no masks, no rotas, staff not yet vaccinated. What could go wrong? Confused

When do we think lockdown 4 will be?

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 09:11

No bubbles bursting @Mrgrinch?

Borntohula · 22/02/2021 09:11

Agree, if you were that worried, you'd already be planning to homeschool.

Pinotwoman82 · 22/02/2021 09:12
