We know it's "lovely and unusual".

Grin my favourite book in the world. The Hitchcock film is pretty special too.

I think she was a Naomi

I always thought Esther or Helene/Helena.

HTH1 · 21/02/2021 20:46

It was Chardonnay.

LyraBelaqua · 21/02/2021 20:47

Definitely a Daphne to me.

Swingometer · 21/02/2021 20:48

Clarissa

thecatsthecats · 21/02/2021 20:49

My personal guess has always been Isolda. Kind of out of its time, the sort a pottering, romantic historian might give a daughter. And du Maurier used it in The House on the Strand.

My middle name is Rebecca, and I have got myself lots of things embossed with my initials. My ambition in life is to fill my home with things that Rebecca De Winter would approve of Grin

Fleur - she has a fey look about her.

I love Rebecca. It’s my favourite novel & favourite film.

I imagine her as a Daphne too.

Nailed it. Such a strong girl's name.
VienneseWhirligig · 21/02/2021 21:03

Genevieve, Cynthia or Hortensia. Given that it's described as lovely and unusual. She has always struck me as a Joan or a Margaret though in honesty.

Tomhardyshadabath · 21/02/2021 21:07

Something really insipid and annoying! But then I was always Team Rebecca 😂.

MirandaWestsNewBFF · 21/02/2021 21:08

Venetia

Loopyloututu · 21/02/2021 21:09

Lettice? She is a bit “wet” after all.

DartmoorChef · 21/02/2021 21:13

I always thought it would be pippa or poppy

MichelleScarn · 21/02/2021 21:16

Perpetua?

CruCru · 21/02/2021 21:16

Rebecca was written just before WWII. So names that might have been unusual then probably wouldn’t now. I think she was Daphne, Sophie or Amelia.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 21/02/2021 21:21

Oh my absolute favourite book 😍 Yes something intellectual/ literary I reckon - Persephone?

Radio4Rocks · 21/02/2021 21:22

I always thought she was an Esme

Marcipex · 21/02/2021 21:26

I think Deborah, but I don’t know why.
Isn’t it a biblical name?
