Things you bought in lockdown and wish you hadn't bothered

Mine is an Instant Pot. I mean, it's okay, I guess, but I find it a big faff to use and things quite often come out with a weird texture. Would not recommend.

What else do you regret buying?

Pointless renewal of dd’s passport. It’s five year validity now looking more like three.

PogoTheClown · 19/02/2021 22:01

I bought for my son a £500 playhouse right at the beginning of lockdown (as was always the plan for his birthday). He's hardly used it as he can't have friends over to play with.

My mum bought for me a Karen Millen dress. Unworn.

Didiplanthis · 19/02/2021 22:03

3 sets of school uniforms for DC.. can't pass any down as dd then same size boy DTs... ditto pretty much all clothes as lived in pjs/joggers/onesies for most of the year.

Decent Outdoor play equipment.. gave up the fight to get them off screens 2/3 into lock down 1... bought them Switch lites instead for bday so we didn't all lose the will to live.. these have been a MUCH more used..

Didiplanthis · 19/02/2021 22:05

Oh yes... lots of workbooks for home schooling and white boards for the timetables...

MyFavouritePlace · 19/02/2021 22:09

A fire pit, still in its box in the garage.
A tray thing for the bath, I've used it once, it's a faff using it.
A couple of dresses.

ifitpleasesandsparkles · 19/02/2021 22:11

A few precious house plants that don't like wet soil, don't like dry soil, don't like sunlight, don't like darkness, don't like being looked at funny. I throw them the Vs and my partner tells me I'm giving them bad vibes.

I've got some lovely ones who thrive no matter what. They're my good boys and I tell them so. The other fuckers are getting in the bin.

Character shoes for DD's ballet class. Bought last February. Never worn, as the zoom classes haven't the space for character dance. Now too small.

Lots of other ballet warm up clothes.

School shoes in September.

New school shirts in September.

Tights.

Notcontent · 19/02/2021 22:19

Clothes - other than the joggers for around the house and fitness leggings for running.

Bikes - only used them a few times over the summer.

VenetoResident · 19/02/2021 22:19

Dehydrator - dried some dandelions for the rabbits.

doctorhamster · 19/02/2021 22:23

Renewed both kids passports in Jan last year.

UsernameFail · 19/02/2021 22:23

New schools shoes worn all of 5 days before lockdown happened. Winter sports kits no longer required and unused.
Lots of activity kits DS was not interested in.
Cheap toastie maker used twice.

Best Buy ever - robot vacuum cleaner

TrickorTreacle · 19/02/2021 22:25

I renewed my railcard last August when I thought things were returning to normal. I haven't used it yet!

At the other end of the scale, my best buy for the house was definitely the Nintendo Switch! Don't really care much for the Xbox or Playstation and their insane prices.

OldBean2 · 19/02/2021 22:26

I bought a coat, it was meant to be emerald green and gorgeous, and I would look tall and elegant wearing it

It wasn't and I didn't.

It was a mucky green, it was too big and the pockets weren't real. I mean that was the final straw. A woman needs pockets, ffs.

I hate it so much I can't be arsed to send it back. It will go to a charity shop when they reopen.

No sodding pockets... it is against the law, I know it is.

Flights to Italy

Griselda1 · 19/02/2021 22:38

A kelly kettle which I envisaged I would cook on during my walks etc. I didn't expect it to break on it's first outing and that they wouldn't reply to me to arrange for it to be fixed.

andannabegins · 19/02/2021 22:43

Lots of dance kit for my DDs, costumes and shoes etc for comps that have never happened. Now one is off to dance school so will probably never compete again.
So pleased all the money on classes was wasted too Hmm

marriednotdead · 19/02/2021 22:45

A gazebo that sits just outside the back door for autumn evenings relaxing round the bio ethanol fire, that DP had finally hung on the wall.

We went from summer to winter in around 48 hours.

Didiplanthis · 19/02/2021 23:03

Yes to dance kit... grown out of in lock down one (tap/jazz/ballet shoes plus clothing) Bought again when out of lock down - hurrah ! Worn for 6 weeks then lockdown 2... dd has now grown again..

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 19/02/2021 23:05

Aftershokz to replace my old dead ones. I can't face running. Haven't been able to for a year almost. The sofa is far more appealing Sad

HearMeSnore · 19/02/2021 23:09

A lovely glittery jumpsuit and strappy sandals for DD. She was supposed to go to a school disco this time last year but it got cancelled due to the rising panic. She was disappointed so I cheered her up by getting her something nice to wear when they rescheduled it "After Easter".
Obvs that never happened. She never wore the outfit except to try on, and now it's too small.

RedlightGreenlight · 19/02/2021 23:14

@Avebury

Another one for Instant Pot. Haven't even used it yet because the instructions seem too overwhelming when I am frazzled anyway
@ avebury Snap! I'm scared of it! It's still in the box because I just don't know where to start.
LongIslandIcedT · 19/02/2021 23:19

Deep fat fryer. The food is fucking amazing, I've put on so much weight as a result.

InkyPinkyPonky95 · 19/02/2021 23:20

Gona sound like a diva but I haven't been able to get eyelash extensions with the salons closed so I tried magnetic eyelashes and falscara. Both a terrible terrible waste of money.

HexWitch · 19/02/2021 23:23

A trampoline that DD just HAD to have. It cost me twice as much as normal because they sold out from everywhere and it was like trying to buy rocking horse shit. By the time I finally sourced one the weather had started to turn already (June!!) and she's used it a handful of times if that.

Lockdownlumpy · 19/02/2021 23:33

School uniform
School shoes
DS had new shoes to wear in Jan. Never wore them due to Boris u-turn and now outgrown Angry
Renewed DD passport.
