To be utterly besotted with Kirstie and Phil

I have been up all night (insomnia ☹) and watching really old reruns of Location, Location, Location and I can't believe how much I love Phil and Kirstie.

I think I have a massive embarrassing crush on Phil and his personable manner but I also love the idea that he seems like a happily married man with such a lovely relationship with his long term work wife. He just seems so wholesome and like he would make a good family friend.

I love Kirstie. I'm in my 20s but love her style, her confidence, everything, even when I think she is being a little pushy or overbearing. I feel like we would get on!

They just feel like good old friends and I love watching them and all their spin offs.

YABU - Nobody watches that crap and they are out of touch and rather annoying
YANBU -They make for great viewing!

They're TV presenters not paragons of virtue, I watch their TV shows because I like the content and enjoy P&K as a presenting duo. I don't look to them for moral or political guidance so what they do in their personal lives is irrelevant. If you're watching a new drama etc do you research the political and moral values of each actor before deciding whether to watch it? If you don't like their presenting style or the show content don't watch it, I think people are conflating two different issues.

Juno231 · 19/02/2021 09:55

I like them as a duo but can't stand Kirstie on her own.

Phil went to OH's school and they have regular alumni events where Phil sometimes shows up - my dream is to bump into him there but I bet that would never happen!

Shooting is a technique used to hunt deer

No, it’s a technique used to KILL deer. In the UK, hunting is done on horses by people shouting Tally Ho. Americans hunt deer.

Botanicals · 19/02/2021 10:57

Oh I didn’t realise it was just for fan girling on here, sorry, I will get my hat. Need to ride the horses anyway especially if Tim Bonner fans are on board.
Although I am sure they wouldn’t support his disablist abuse towards Chris Packham on Twitter.

Botanicals · 19/02/2021 10:58

@Hilda40

Phil called a manege a menage. I've never forgiven him.

It’s AIBU (last time I looked), people are allowed to hold a different opinion to you and answer the question.

There are quite a few people I refuse to watch because of moral objections. Just because you don’t apply the same code to life and cannot comprehend that others might do this.

I am vegetarian and keep horses, I bet that blows your mind.

Not true.

Sorry @Botanicals, that’s an American website.

PolarnOPirate · 19/02/2021 12:24

I love them too! I have met Kirstie (was on one of the shows) and she’s soooo professional and knows what’s what but very friendly and good at making conversation and making you feel at ease. I want to BE her!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 19/02/2021 12:25

I love the programme, although I find Kirstie’s Head Girl routine a bit much sometimes. Sometimes I get the impression she just wants people to do things her way, rather than thinking about what’s best for them. Phil is much more patient; I feel like when you can see him getting frustrated because the woman who’s complained the last three bathrooms are too small is now complaining the fourth is too big, you know it’s genuine frustration. With Kirstie it all too often feels like foot-stamping and ‘But why don’t they just do as I saaaaay?!’

I did see a good episode last week. The couple wanted a three-bed house in West London with a garden for £500k. Kirstie showed them a two-bed flat with a roof terrace, told them they were lucky to get that and stop deluding themselves.

Oh, sorry, my mistake - that was the previous episode. And the one before that. And the one before that.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 19/02/2021 12:36

One thing I never understand is when they say they have a budget of £600k and Phil shows them something in need of loads of for £480k, saying ‘That leaves you over 100 grand to do the work’. Surely that’s only true if they’re mortgage-free cash buyers? If you can afford to spend £600k, that usually means you have equity of about £200k and can borrow £400k against a £600k house, right? I suppose it wouldn’t be impossible to use less equity for the mortgage deposit and save the rest for renovations, but surely the budget for most people is based on what they can borrow - which will be less if your deposit is lower.

Pretty much this for me. I could not be more diametrically opposed to them as an individual, complete opposite end of the spectrum politically and in most things. I'm really not in the demographic of someone who should love them but they really appeal with me as a presenting duo.

LIOLI is more engaging to me at the moment because its a newer format but I still love LLL and love seeing how the show has changed and progressed.

I don't follow them on social media and don't know much of their personal lives.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 20/02/2021 08:42

They're a great presenting partnership and complement each other. I think in the 20 years they've been on TV lots of people have learned quite a bit from them too. I think the key thing with LLL is that they find people a home that suits their needs - not like Escape to the Country where it feels as though most of the potential buyers are just having a nosey and never actually buy anything they've looked at.

peak2021 · 20/02/2021 09:54

Whether you like them or not, watching any form of 'property porn' is not a victimless activity. You are helping promote housing as a speculative investment instead of a roof over your head, and the consequence is more people being unable to buy their first home.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 20/02/2021 09:59

I don't think it is a speculative investment as it has consistently risen in value over the years. First time buyers' issues are far more complex than your post suggests peak2021

Griselda1 · 20/02/2021 10:01

Trophy hunting certainly put me off Phil but I think they're great presenters and Kirsty is amazing.Im sure we all remember a girl like her at school.

Treaclepie19 · 20/02/2021 10:05

I love watching love it or list it.
I really don't like Kirstie though and reading about Phil and hunting has put me off him.

PenguinBarnotBird · 20/02/2021 10:16

@Bangable

Phil is definitely not the saintly husband some are making him out to be.
Definitely get these vibes too...
MiaowMiaow99 · 20/02/2021 10:24

I love them, and the formula is still pulling the viewers so their programmes continue.

I also agree with a fair bit of what Kirstie tweets. So bite me.

MiaowMiaow99 · 20/02/2021 10:25

I actually saw an Escape to the Country this week where they actually bought one of the houses.

I had to have a lie down after that.

theleafandnotthetree · 20/02/2021 10:47

I just had a look at Kirstie's twitter account and am genuinely baffled as to what people could find objectionable on it in the last few months at least, could someone enlighten me? She seems very centrist, sensible and open-minded, I wouldn't agree with everything - just like I wouldn't personally go out and shoot a deer - but surely we're not suggesting that we can only like/respect/watch/be friends with people whose views align exactly with hours.

wigornian · 20/02/2021 23:41

@theleafandnotthetree regrettably that is exactly what some posters think!
