Honestly though, have I been using this word wrong my whole life?! The definitions i found on Google are nothing to me 😕

For anyone interested I take it to mean a sharp nod of the head.

Someone tell me I'm right?

This!

@Countdowntonothing

Like others have said, a donk on the head. Not a proper hit, just a donk. Like tapping someone on the head with a rolled up paper when they've said something silly. Or xmas dh and I will have wrapping paper wars and donk each other on the head with wrapping paper tubes.
We fence with them!

To me it's a "bonk on the head" but I also know that bonk can be a sickeningly middle class word for sex.

Donk means nothing to me. Made me think of Donkey Kong.

Notjustanymum · 18/02/2021 11:37

Onomatopoeic word describing the sound of a thud E.g. I heard the donk of the coconut falling from the tree...

Dahlietta · 18/02/2021 11:41

A donk on the head is a playful or accidental bang on the head.

I would also use to twat someone, but that's a more aggressive act than a donk.

A Reception teacher friend was getting irritated at her class's use of babyish words eg. doggie, pussy, horsie so did some work with them on the real names for both adult and young animals. She did the usual gentle modelling and correction thing ' Ooo we don't say X in this class, do we, we say it's proper name....' etc.

Christmas comes and the Nativity story. ' Does anyone know what animal Mary is riding on?'
Child with hand up. Long pause.
'Um...a donk?'
I am afraid that is what we have called them every since.

Scarby9 · 18/02/2021 11:49

its, not it's

Laiste · 18/02/2021 11:56

bonk - bang on the head or sex.
conk - nose
dong - big cock
donk - bang on the head/the noise of a bang on the head.

Laiste · 18/02/2021 11:56

twonk - idiot

LionLily · 18/02/2021 12:05

A donk is a thudding sound as in "I heard a donk from the loft and thought we must have a psychopath killer person hiding up there"

Now, what is a donker in your house, is it someone who donks. If I repeatedly hit dh on the head with the used kitchen roll tube, am I a donker? Is he a donkee?

In this house, a donker is a remote control, either tv, fire, anything - "where is the donker?", "Pass me the donker", "I am sitting on the donker".

The only usage I've come across is donk = diesel engine in a sailboat.

The internet says donk is Australian slang for a car engine.

RandomLondoner · 18/02/2021 12:42

Actually I have heard donk used for for a light blow on the head.

Heidi1976 · 18/02/2021 13:15

A donk is a sample sound - like a woppppp sort of noise.
