A pop star and a weather forecaster.

Ain't gonna happen Grin

HippyChickMama · 16/02/2021 22:43

Ds at 3 wanted to be PC Plum from Balamory, not just a police officer but specifically PC Plum and dd around that age wanted to be a mermaid. Now 13 (ds) and 7 (dd) they want to be a teacher and a vet respectively.

BiBabbles · 16/02/2021 22:48

From about 4-12, DD1 was going to be a doctor-astronaut-painter-skater-mum, in that order, and quite liked reading about doctors or astronauts that had other jobs. Then she became a teenager and started saying she has no idea and has generally hated the question or doing career work at school, I think in part because she hates being wrong and I have to keep reminding that for now she's just exploring options.

My DD2 has had many times of intending to be various animals, particularly cats. She has shifted to different jobs working with animals - most of the time.

When DS1 was tiny, he wanted to build robots that protect people. He now at 16 wants to go into Engineering involving robotics, though has an interest in radio and 'talking stuff'.

My DS2 decided he's going to be a potato farmer and help make different types of potatoes. He adds other crops sometimes, but making the best potatoes is still very important to him at 9.

Fedoos · 16/02/2021 22:49

My 5 year old DD wants to be a hairdresser and a doctor because, as she always points out, Daniel Tiger says "you can be more than one thing".

LookingGlassMilk · 16/02/2021 22:58

This is a brilliant one. You never know, he could breed a high yield, disease resistant, climate change resistant potato that will solve world hunger.

Treaclepie19 · 16/02/2021 23:04

My ds (5) wants to be a builder or a game developer.
He also wants to be a youtuber.

Treaclepie19 · 16/02/2021 23:06

I wanted to be a teacher. I was for a while. Now a SAHM.

BeautyQueenIamNot · 16/02/2021 23:11

I asked my mum this apparently around age 5 I wanted to be horse person I was adamant it was a person (I have no idea why as I have always had a phobia/hated horses)

I’m now an engineer Grin

Dc1 9 - wants to be a you tuber or a teacher
Dc2 7 - wants to design/make video games (thanks DH 🙄)

Thesearmsofmine · 16/02/2021 23:14

Ds1- a builder
Ds2- a nurse
Ds3(is still little)- a firefighter

I wanted to be a librarian because I thought I could just read books all day.

SofiaAmes · 16/02/2021 23:18

DS (20) wants to be rich and DD (18) wants to be a trophy wife (concurrently working on a degree in philosophy and a music career in case the rich husband doesn't work out).
I spent most of middle school aspiring to be in the mafia and most of high school wanting to be a professional footballer (this was in the 70's in the USA where they didn't even have professional male football players).

Idiotathome79 · 16/02/2021 23:33

My daughter an air stewardess now mental health nurse
My other a teacher she's in teacher training

My sons a YouTuber he's at college
Daughter hairdresser still at school
Youngest a singer , ballerina or a real life princess she's 6

Dilbertian · 16/02/2021 23:33

It took ds1 ages to understand the question. He insisted that he would be himself when he grew up. Eventually someone asked him what he would do when he grew up

"I do grown-ups things. What do grown-ups do, Mummy?"

His little brother was much more straightforward: he wanted to be a train.

Needless to say, neither have achieved their ambitions. Though ds1 messaged me from uni to tell me he had cooked his girlfriend dinner and unblocked the toilet, so he may yet get there.

CorianderBee · 16/02/2021 23:54

At 8 I told my mum I wanted to be the first female President of the United States.

I am not American and nor did I go into politics.

singlemummanurse · 17/02/2021 00:20

It changes on a regular basis for my 5yo. Doctor, firefighter, teacher, scientist, singer, police officer, paramedic-police officer (not separate jobs, she wants to be able to save someone's life, then arrest them 😁). Most of the time it comes back to she wants to be a nurse like mummy though!

Wiredforsound · 17/02/2021 00:23

Wanted to be Batman since he was 2 years old. He’s 12 now. Still wants to be Batman.

bearfood · 17/02/2021 00:49

My second eldest wanted to be a teacher from when she was tiny right up to Sixth Form. She's now a social worker but is surrounded by teachers in her friendship group and lives with her bf who is a teacher. She's happy with her choice!

Maybemay123 · 17/02/2021 00:49

Dc1 wanted to be the fat controller so he could spend all day riding on Thomas, he's actually in health care.
Dc2 has ambitions of being a history teacher - because their history teacher is nice and funny.
Dc3 a motor car racer.
Db always warned to be a binman until dad took him to an open day at the recycling plant and it smelt horrible!

BlueTimes · 17/02/2021 01:04

Batman!

Disneymum1993 · 17/02/2021 02:02

Mally2020 · 17/02/2021 02:11

Don't have kids yet but my mum wanted me to be a woman in stem because there was a big push for it and now I am except not a doctor an environmental scientist. I wanted to be an actor or an astronaut when I was younger.
For any children hopefully to come soon in the next few years I would love them to be able to chill out a bit more than I did I was super academic and instead pursue the arts, humanities etc. and just have abit more of a social life lol!
