My oldest boy basically told me at 8 he wants to be unemployed. Hes now 14 and he wants to work part time in McDonald's 'to start with'.

My younger boy is 8 now and wants to be a costume designer or actor so hopefully he can put up his older brother Grin

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 16/02/2021 22:21

DS wants to be Tweak from the Octonauts.

I'm quite in favour of this and have explained that she's a mechanical engineer so he'll need to work hard in school....

She's also a girl, green and a rabbit, but oh well.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/02/2021 22:22

My eldest wanted to be a fire engine when he was young!! These days he is much too cool for such things!!
My younger one wants to be an animal too...heartening to see this is not as uncommon as I thought, usually a cat/squirrel/red panda...!!

YayCoffeeCoffeeCoffee · 16/02/2021 22:27

My DS5 wants to work in Lidl, he said it's only over the road so he won't have to walk far Grin

Lactofreemeatballs · 16/02/2021 22:27

We also had a dress up day at school for ' when I grow up'. The teachers face when a pupil answered the question with " A thief, like my bruvva" was a picture.

VashtaNerada · 16/02/2021 22:29

DS (8) changes his mind regularly but the one thing that has been constant is that he really wants to be a dad Smile Loved playing with dolls when he was little and it’s so lovely that it’s still something he wants when he’s an adult!

Prufrocks · 16/02/2021 22:29

I wanted to be a raccoon.

But life is full of cruel twists and alas, I never achieved my dream.

Whoateallthechocolate · 16/02/2021 22:31

DD wanted to be a windmill from the ages of 3 - 5. Then a reindeer... but not at Christmas.
She's now 11 and, if asked, just looks at you crossly and says "I can't be expected to know that now. And, anyway, you keep saying that the world is constantly changing so there's no point in me even thinking about that now.".

Serin · 16/02/2021 22:32

DD wanted to be a football WAG.
DS1 wanted to be a soldier, he is now training to be a nurse but with the intention of joining the army once qualified.
DS2 wanted to be a pie man, he works in IT but does have a certificate in cornish pasty making.

Bettafish · 16/02/2021 22:32

DS has achieved both of his early ambitions- as a toddler he hero worshipped Postman Pat and he has just spent 2 very happy years as a Postie. Next week, he starts his other dream jobs as a policeman

The person who puts the toys in Happy Meals at McDonalds - DS when he was aged 3.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 16/02/2021 22:33

My two eldest sons wanted to be a binman and a Dark Lord of the Sith.
They're both chefs Grin

Iceskatingfan · 16/02/2021 22:33

My son for ages when he was little used to answer “a father” to this question which I actually thought was quite sweet. Then he adapted that to “stay at home father” as he got older 🤦‍♀️ 😂 I had to intervene with a bit of reality eventually and point out that ok that’s fine if you and your wife agree on that but what if she wants to be a stay at home mother, at least one of you is going to need to earn some money for your family to live on etc. So he then came up with a substitute teacher “because they don’t have to do as much work as normal teachers” 😂 He is now 13 and the latest plan is part time poet and author, part time YouTuber and he’s also planning to work in Asda to fund these other two jobs which he doesn’t expect to be able to make a living from. At least he has a vague plan!

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 16/02/2021 22:34

Bamaluz · 16/02/2021 22:38

DS wanted to drive an ice cream van

Pinklittle · 16/02/2021 22:38

I asked my 2 year old what she wanted to be when she grows up and she told me quite firmly that she wants to be a banana when I said that's not possible she decided a potato was better - I'm hoping for a bit more ambition from her as the years go on haha xx

Savethewhales · 16/02/2021 22:38

Oldest when 4 wanted to be an opera singer, poor her couldn't sing a note if she tried
